Neeher's Expanded Settlement Area Mods

it's an acceptable trade off, I was just curious about others using this mod. my testing was based on Hangman's without any plots before, and after I added the mod.

has anyone noticed a drop in FPS with this mod installed? I know it sounds crazy but I figured it might be caused by what was done to make the previously unscrappable objects able to be scrapped. I'm not an expert on the game engine and Neeher definitely I rely knows more than i do, the one thing I have learned though is that objects are grouped together for performance and most scrap mods have to seperate them to be able to scrap them, and that affects performance.

just thought I'd ask becuae since installing this mod, hangman's alley gets pretty choppy with a 5 to 10 drop in fps

I'll test this out in my heaviest settlements and get back to you.

Sorry that took a while, but I'm done testing. Overall I didn't notice a huge FPS dropoff in the expanded areas of any of my settlements,, and I used ones that were both heavily built and not built at all. I tested Hangman's Alley as one of the settlements, and when I initially arrived I did have an FPS in the mid to high 20s (normally I'm in the mid to high 30s), but running through Boston usually cranks me down a few FPS anyway. Using Scrap Everything I took out every piece of scrabbale object in the expanded area of Hangman's Alley and did see an increase in FPS performance, but that might not be related to the mod per se. Like I said, I usually get an FPS hit in Boston areas, and removing the clutter undoubtedly helped that. I went back and tested Hangman's Alley again without the settlement's expanded mod in place and saw about the same FPS rating as with. I did not build up the Hangman's Alley settlement, so that might have something to do with it. In Sanctuary, my FPS actually improved in the expanded areas.

So I am not sure if the mod has anything to do with it. I did not test any Far Harbor locations, though.

1) scrapping in a settlement will increase FPS
2) Neeher's mod doesn't affect FPS
3) SimSettlements if built in a tight area with around 20 houses or 20 of anything - FPS hit.

* I have an newer MSI laptop with 1070gtx card - running ultra. I have also installed Fallout Optimization, Vivid Roads/bridges/etc. and replaced with 1k textures. Just started a new game. Pretty much run 90 FPS. Sanctuary before scrapping with Neeher's and Conifers is mostly around 60... look around at times dips to 40ish FPS - may be just sanctuary... used "scrapall" in console with scrap everything disabled and went from 63 to 75 FPS. Pretty barren so I undid that and accepted the FPS loss.

** I started a new game and will have to report after the weekend what affect SimSettlements has on FPS - may not be a true test because I won't be building in a small area - will push to the extreme edges of sanctuary/neeher borders - will see how this affects FPS - whether it is a consolidation issue or if it is the entire "cell" of the settlement issue.

*** I will also keep settlements under 20 NPC's - 20 homes/20 "jobs" ... above that, FPS drops to about 20ish FPS - before my retexturing mods... so we will see how this affects it.

**** One last caveat - (sorry) :) - I have also changed graphics card setting - VSync - from "let program control" to "VSync Fast" ... 90+ fps outside sanctuary so far - my sons have been playing (summer vacation) yesterday and mostly running around 150 ish FPS Ultra - one son in NukaWorld - did get down to 45ish FPS in the main building where you put the control modules in...

Hope this helps.

Absolutely agree with this...

one of the things that I think hurts Sanctuary a bit for FPS is that most Sanctuary cleaner mods just disable the houses or move them below the ground line. The game still seems to occasionally process those even though they get covered up. Scrapall is the nuclear option but if you're seeing framerate drops, maybe try doing that after bringing Preston and company back but before building anything out for Sturges (and definitely after doing Cogsworth's stuff or he'll bug out and you won't be able to get him as a companion until you force set his quest progress). The roads will go away too (at least mine do) but you'll have a clean slate to build from.

FYI about my Sanctuary builds.... One of my main ways of playing the game and gaining a couple levels in the process is to build a house on a scrapped house pad. Then I build a workshop. I try and do some exploring, and leave Preston & Co. alone untill I get some good perks under my belt. One caveat about this is that I use sort of a cheat.... I have a mod called the VTEC care package. What it is is a box of crafting/building supplies....5000 of each in a box right next to the Sanctuary workbench.

Let me post up a couple pics from some old games... long before SS came into play.

I had all the busted house pads filled with other structures.... all similarly detailed. This was back in 2016, before upgrading the computer. Even then I would only get slowdowns when a pack of raiders or gunners tried to visit and mess up the tranquility. About the only thing I found that killed my FPS in that game was using different lights in the workshop. I originally used flouro tube lights in there mounted flush to the roof parts, and once I changed them to a bar light style... my FR problem was gone.

The bar lights look okay in one of the settler's work buildings:

Now how this relates to present day is that I think SS uses far less resources than all this. The difference for me is that now I use the hi res DLC pack with a more powerfull rig. I think most of the slowdowns I'm getting are from all the his res textures trying to load up. YMMV, but I don't think I would dare build something like this version of Sanctuary along with an expanded settlement and SS running too.

Question: on the mod page, the Unofficial F04 patch is listed as not compatible, is it the older, defunct nonDlc patch or the currently supported version?

I run the DLC version, which has been updated and have no issues with it.

And as far as the care packages, it writes into the cell. Personally, I keep away from anything that modifies a settlement cell like that... I use Cheat Terminal, which is basically an interface to "console" whatever you want -- crafting material included.
