when i start a new save after a fresh install of fallout 4 and leave vault 111 with no mods (some creation club content) my savefile was 5,000kb I had done a clean install because as soon as I entered the wasteland before my savefile would bloat so one by one I installed some mods F4SE, XDI, Level Up Menu EX, and Be exceptional then I opened the game and the save file was still in the low 5,000's so then I install sim settlements and the two expansions and then I check the savefile and suddenly it ballooned to 13,582kb I haven't even gotten the sim settlements holotape and I'm positive I installed the latest versions but I have no clue what is going on or if this file size is normal for a mod like this.

I can provide my save files if it will help I just don't know what else I can do except just play without Sim Settlements which would be a shame because its one of the best mods I had installed.

When I was playing vanilla my saves started out about 4Mb-5Mb then gradually grew to 25Mb and I wasn't halfway through with the no-DLC game but had built on most settlements. I switched to include mods (Sim Settlements and all the DLC too) and my current save is 55k after getting to lvl 98 and not through half the game or settlements yet again. I've seen people talking about 100Mb save files. I'm sure it's directly linked to how many items the player creates in gameplay so a minimalist settlement style would avoid some of the save-file size bloat.

your saves file is normal dont worry. if is not at 50kb in the next two day :p Mine is currently at 25kb with 7 settlement lvl 0 and lvl 1 and my char is lvl 23

If you're getting 50MB plus save files something is wrong. 14MB is nothing to worry about. 356 active plugins at the moment (I'm trying very hard to break the game...but with a proper load order and merges...and it's not breaking, still), and my save file is around 30MB. No issues. No crashes other than the normal vanilla ones that have always existed.

I've only seen one mod cause severe save game bloat (in excess of 50MB loaded by itself, no other mods), and that is war of the commonwealth. But that mod is full of issues, save game bloat just being one of them.

Mine were 55-60 when I was crashing a lot and I wasn't using that mod.

That means another of your mods was causing the bloat. But it's not sim settlements. Maybe that workshop mod you were using? Wotc is the only one that caused bloat for me, but I've not used every mod on the nexus. I'm sure there are plenty more. ;]

I doubt it; I only used that WS mod a week or two and had big saves before that. I did have a rather large inventory but I have no idea if that even matters.
