Fallout 4 Creation Club is Now Live! (sort of), Officially Live Tomorrow

Hey folks, please read this new sticky thread. I'll be coming in and cleaning out some comments when I have time later this evening.

https://simsettlements.com/site/index.php?threads/please-dont-advocate-piracy-on-this-site.1640/
Sorry, damanding... fixed my offending post. Meant it more as a "well that wasn't very well thought out on Beth's part" than an actual "yo ho ho". So I guess I didn't think out my own post very well either. Can I blame it on being tired? :lazy

As $ is an ancient and venerated symbol for a variable in many arcane and archaic languages, I'm guessing that's the screw-up that happened there on those pages.

However I find it personally hysterical that the re$ult i$ that Bethe$da'$ ob$e$$ion i$ revealed. I think they should keep all the dollar signs on the pages. You know, as a gesture of honesty.

It could be worse... If this was EA, the money grabs would be a lot more blatant and in your face. I seriously wouldn't be at all surprised if EA released some game that crashed 50% of the time and charged you $5 per game launch.

What really bugs me is how half-cheeked it all is. I couldn't believe it. Here's this big Mega Uber Upper Management Major Focus Project and it's... sloppy. The content is sparse. The storefront is bare, devoid of any info or meaningful previews of what you're getting. You have a list of prices that want you to spend five bucks on a suit of armor with two lousy dark pics of it and the description "this is really cool." This is not how you launch something you intend to be a success. All this time, and hype, and corporate rah-rah and... it's lazy and sloppy and might drive away more people than it brings in.

I was hoping this would be a viable vector for PS4 folks to get some additional content mods, but now I don't know.

naw, it's been there a while. You still have to go in and manually blow away the old files in the FO4 folder though.

No longer seems to be the case; old files not present after running the installer. Of note, there's also an uninstaller. I've always just dropped the files in manually and made a shortcut before, dunno why my eyes kept glazing over that "installer" link.

Bethesda is (trying to) sell Not!Mods that directly "compete" with already available free mods. Can it get any more blatant considering there is nothing else available? This whole system could have been made to compliment the modding community instead of competing with it. There are things modders don't do well or could be done better with access to Bethesda's larger resource pool. One-off mods should never have been allowed into the Creation Club. Launching with a few new stories, even small ones, using a combination of Beth devs and modders would have gone over much better.

Really not interested in a F2P cash shop in my single player, $90+ games.

Wow, what a disaster. Bethesda may be the stupidest dev of 2017 ("Konami without the malice" - Jim Sterling).

I see 681 MB of crap Steam downloaded into my Data folder. Welp, updates off + offline play for now.

I think your laptop just started ticking...

HAHA .... played last night just fine. No ticking yet till I download the patch... which won't be for a long while. Quite happy with game as is.... and I don't want to give them $$$.

I know where you're coming from, but a petition will not be a factor in what they decide to do. They've demonstrated quite clearly that finding a way to monetize mods is the current mandate from on high, and only a shift in direction by top management will change that. It's possible they'll decide to abandon the idea themselves... but it will probably, and unfortunately, be after several more failures that starts to make someone look bad.

I am fine with them trying to make paid mods. If they still allow free modding. If they can make some money of making small mods, more power to them. Have at it.

My only problem is adding all the content in the main game, so it has to be downloaded even if I don't buy the extra stuff. That annoys me a great deal.

reports have been surfacing that your load order (which facilitates the order in which mods get loaded first) is now forced to load your mods in alphabetical order. This is potentially destructive for existing save files, as mod dependencies require that some mods be loaded first. Failure to respect a proper dependency order can in the best case simply cause the game to crash. But in the worst case scenario, it can permanently damage a game save if it is overwritten after this bug has gone rampant.

This is likely the problem Im having with all my past saves crashing the game.
Can only start new

or maybe not. I really have no clue why my game is botched

Wait, this dude included a screenshot of his Fallout4\Data folder as proof that zomg the sky is falling mods will be loaded in alphabetical order? Is he serious??? A screenshot of, not the game's mod manager, not NMM or the actual files that the game reads, but a screenshot of his Windows folder which have by default sorted their content by folders first, files second, all in alphabetical order since the beginning of time???

He brings up a couple of good points, but mainly I see clickbait hyperbole. And essentially he's just repeating someone else's story. "Reports are surfacing..." without verifying anything?

On top of that, he's giving legal advice that's absolutely insane, asserting that dodging the store to unlock the paid mods has "no law against it" and isn't illegal? So, he just pulls an idea out of his butt and decides it's legal fact, then advocates piracy? Fun fact: something that's being sold is, in fact, illegally stolen if you obtain it without paying.

I agree it's a load of crap that my drive is now cluttered with piles of garbage I don't want, don't need, didn't ask for and will never use. Is everything that appears in the CC ever going to be pushed to my system? Is Beth gonna buy me a new drive? The rest of the article, tho... yeesh.

Mods are absolutely not being loaded in alphabetical order. This guy is talking out his butt and just decided to repeat random hysterics without verifying anything.

" thankfully once I put all mods back in order and reloaded my save file, everything had been put to rights." He apparently didn't read this part. So, the Beta version of the CC scrambled mod load order the first time the game was run, so you have to put everything back where it belongs. Dumb, but it was a beta, it clearly got fixed before release, and honestly it's more an annoyance than the apocalypse this guy's predicting.

Seeing how tensions are high right now and people are losing their minds I will refrain from providing further information, but just know things are much more dire for the modding community than you are seemingly willing to admit.
