Manufacturing compatibility with virtual storage?

So one thing I always felt Manufacturing via the Contraptions DLC was lacking was ensuring steady materials for my factories so they don't spend time sitting around doing nothing but gobble valuable voltage. One thought I was hoping for at first was that I could use industrial plots to produce materials to feed my rube goldberg factories. But then I looked at the SS2 wiki and realized 'oh crap i can't use stuff made by the industrial plots sans the junk plots.' So it made me decide to put forth a suggestion; allowing manufacturing machines to pull from virtual storage in a future update? Maybe a special extractor machine to do so? Or would that wreck progression and ruin plot upgrading too much?

I highly doubt this would be added to SS2 as its outside the scope of the mod. (and require a dependency on the Contraptions DLC) That said, there is nothing stopping a mod author creating a mod to do this. I'm actually surprised a mod like that hasn't been created yet.
