How To HQ Bug (Jake always in security department)

so first there's a tutorial about assigning staff to the engineering and security department, but when I pick Aiden to be head of the security department it's always jake who becomes the head of security. I try to reassign the staff but the menu always bugged for me. And there's no Jake in the staff list.

Each of the departments has a Department Desk. The "Manage" doesn't seem to be working correctly for you.
You can try using the Department Desks to assign the Department Heads.
Engineering and Logistics Desks are in the Comm Array Room. Security Desk is in the meeting room.

This is just a symptom of a greater broken problem that keeps happening to seemingly just about everyone (including myself). I cant tell you concretely how I got lucky and got thru it, it just seemed to be luck other than taking sometimes a full (real life) day's break between each step.

However I made a thread here to explain the "script lag" behind this as well as ask questions about how everything else worked. If you understand about the script lag, you should understand the not keep trying over and over expecting things to happen instantly.

The only advice I have for you is get through this however you can and only build living quarters after this, at least two. Energy being so badly limited (from not being able to add more by adding more NPC's to HQ) is causing everyone to hit gamebreaking stops when thes bugs hit. Once your energy pool goes up, there's a bit more tolerance and other things to play this whenever assignments get stuck and they will. Repeatedly.

I can say that at least for a time I felt this made a difference also but in the end. Not really. Worth trying though.

Not sure what's going on for you there. You could try Command Mode, Select Facilities > Manage - Move everyone back into the Facilities Department.
Give the system a minute to follow your commands.
Check to see if that happened by Selecting Facilities > Manage again. Everyone should be listed in Facilities.
Then Select Engineering > Manage to move Jake into the Engineering Department. Should get the notification that he's been assigned.
Then Select Security > Manage to move Aiden into the Security Department. Should get a notification that he's been assigned.

So the department head's desk is going to be in the comm hub room on the first floor, or in the meeting room on the second floor until you build a department head office, then it'll be in the department head's office. (reference: https://wiki.simsettlements2.com/en/gameplay/headquarters)

When you are assigning staff using the Manage menu, it's always going to be people in the right hand box that get assigned to the department, and everyone else on the left. when you close the trade window, a script behind the scenes checks the contents of the two containers and then does the reassignments, and that can take up to 20 seconds (more if you have any script lag).

when you go to the desk and choose a department head, you'll get a similar psudovendor showing only the members of that department's staff, and you want to buy the one you want to be leader.
