If you're experiencing crashing, specifically during foundation level construction or while a city upgrade is occurring, you can help by getting a line from your Papyrus0.log file.

To enable Papyrus logging, f0llow these steps: https://www.creationkit.com/fallout4/index.php?title=Enable_Debug_Logging

After a crash, search the log for CP Spawn and paste the very last entry of it as a response to this thread as well as which settlement was being built or upgraded at the time of the crash.

Example line: [01/01/2018 - 12:53:07PM] CP Spawn: 12880 from plugin: SimSettlements.esm

If you are receiving crashes outside of the build phase, and you're using an existing save file from before Rise of the Commonwealth was released - please test with a new character, if the issue persists with a new character, the problem may be a mod conflict. If the issue does not happen with a new character, please open a bug report describing what you were doing when the last crash occurred in your original save - including which cities you have set to be run by your settlers, and continue to update the thread with more info when you experience new crashes.

Thanks all!

Get a crash placing a interior plot or removing a regular residential every time. Tried searching the log for what you say but nothing turns up, so I'll post some of what I see.

First off I get something like this right as I load the game: [01/02/2018 - 01:37:34PM] warning: Property PrimaryWorkshopResourceProvided on script simsettlements:simbuildingplan attached to (0D00A81D) cannot be initialized because the script no longer contains that property

I have no idea what any of this means.

So I get crashes when i try approaching sanctuary. Either by fast travel or by foot. I had the settlement build soon after i installed the expansion, and in the time playing it's about 3 hours. I had donated enough scrap for it to upgrade. The crash looks like this (used this program for easier viewing, but i can upload the whole file if you want) I didn't find any mention of CP spawn, as you mention here sadly.:

Before this i had crashes trying to scrap stuff in sanctuary, but only sanctuary as well as building generators. I tried loading a save right after the settlement base level was built with the new hotfix and these crashes still accrued. I'll upload the log file for that in a bit. I know there are some other errors too but it hadn't caused errors before.

I'll also make a new character at some point and test stuff out too. It's still annoying but at least i have start me up to save some time.

Best guess is that the settlement is trying to upgrade as you zone in and it's overloading and dying. Try going to abernathy and walking back north to Sanctuary and see if that lets it load in. Once there, a solid refresh on the settlement couldn't hurt either.

Issue still happens. Tried setting upgrades to manual and i could also get close enough by walking around the bridge so that the settlement hud showed up. I tried refreshing plots but that didn't work either

I've been having similar issues with scrapping in Sanctuary. I will take a look at my logs when I get home this evening. To be fair, I just reinstalled the game with a bunch of mods (including scrap everything) so I might have another conflict going on I'm not aware of. However, the crashes with scrapping are consistent and not random. I cleared out all of concord and didn't crash once. I can't even manage to scrap 10 min without crashing.

Update: So I've figured out what my crashing issue was. For some reason the T49 Storyteller armor was spamming a bunch of error messages in the papyrus log. After disabling the mod I was able to scrap and build in sanctuary no issues. I'm going to give the SS build of Sanctuary tomorrow and see how that goes. I have a feeling those papyrus errors were also why my build was getting stuck. Might have had to do with starting it in 3.0 as well.

Are you running any SS "addon" mods or mods that edit Sanctuary?

I am using addon packs, but I'm pretty sure none of them edit sanctuary. Doesn't addons only add more stuff for the plots?

Also Getting the same problem my game is crashing even when im away from sanctuary

trying the beta patch now.... Beta not worked

Have tried the beta update and i am still getting a crash after i have donated scrap and a few minutes. it is happening where ever i am on the map.

Have now removed: (no idea if this helps)

[Archive]
bInvalidateOlderFiles=1
sResourceDataDirsFinal=

Played for over an hour with no crash.

Have now put it back in so all my other mods work and I have been playing for another 30 min with no crash.

Experiencing random crashes tied directly to settlement upgrades. The first crash I ran into was at Greentop. As soon as I would arrive the game crashes, tried several times. I think it has something to do with the double workbench from previous version. The second crash I’m experiencing is at Abernathy farm. I notice first item to add to level one upgrade was a second city planner desk. As soon as I try to delete one of the desk, not shure which one, it crashes. I also have a turret I added and during the cinematic it autofired at a bloatfly and then “crash”, so I went back and tried to delete said turret and “crash”. Trying to upgrade Abernathy again. Crashes started after hotfix.

Update
After several game days I cannot even get close to Abernathy farm without crashing, not shure what’s going on there.

Waited 48hrs game time and returned to Greentop without crashing. Recycling lvl 0 build. See what happens.

Recycle worked, second bench gone no crashes at Greentop

Abernathy still bugged, cannot even get close by foot or fast travel

So it seems every time I try to remove certain shack bridges that I added as turret supports from a settlement causes the game to crash

Playing on Xbox One. I'm experiencing crashes whenever scrapping or trying to place an object. So far this has happened at The Castle, Red Rocket, and Sunshine Tidings Co-op (the only 3 settlements I have tried with the new city building feature). I've tried disabling any kind of mods that could potentially have conflict, starting up from an earlier save, waiting a day in game. It'll be anything as random as placing a lightbulb somewhere or trying to scrap a bed - immediate crash. Any advice will help!

Thanks

What version of the mod? 3.0.1 was released a couple days ago and fixes a lot of these crashes so if it's not loaded, it might help you out a bit.

I am using 3.0.1. My next step is to re-install SS and Rise of the commonwealth. I’ll also try it out with different playthroughs to see if it’s isolated to that one charachter.

Actually, with the hotfix #2 code release immanent, it may not hurt to just sit tight for a little bit. It's due to be released either today or tomorrow and will release on PC and Xbox simultaneously.
PC users can grab the latest beta code (updated @ 2AMish this morning in fact) from the hotfix #2 thread.

There's already a 3.0.1b release out on bethnet for Xbox that corrects an issue on Xbox with plots not upgrading.

@40ksmything Could you upload that corrupted Abernathy save to dropbox.com?

Everyone else, it sounds like you're having the same issue where building or scrapping items in workshop mode causes a crash. This is almost always fixed by removing a mod, it's generally a sign that there are duplicate object reference IDs in your save. Try disabling a few mods and see if the crashing stops.

The biggest cause of that style of crash and duplicate references comes from uninstalling mods mid play-through. You end up leaving a bunch of artifacts in your save file, then when a big mod like SS is added, it ends up re-using a lot of those reference IDs and you see these crashes. The ultimate solution is to start a fresh save when you add a big mod like Sim Settlements.

I'm crashing in Sanctuary when I try to upgrade the city to level 2.

Here's the entry at the very bottom of the list.

[01/05/2018 - 10:12:20AM] CP Spawn: 29619 from plugin: SimSettlements.esm

Some quick info
1. Settlers: 17
2. Mod version: 3.0.1
3. Every time I go to upgrade after starting the game again it seems to get farther into the upgrade process than before. I also turned the game graphics down to Medium and it got farther in it as well. Will try on Low settings and see what happens. UPDATE: Tried it on low settings and it upgraded. Strange, since I would think my computer wouldn't have any trouble.
4. PC Specs:
  • Motherboard: Asus - STRIX B350-F GAMING ATX AM4 Motherboard
  • CPU: AMD - Ryzen 7 1700 3.0GHz 8-Core Processor
  • GPU: Geforce GTX 1080
  • RAM: 16 GB
  • OS: Windows 10 Pro 64 Bit
Additional Crashes
I would crash just walking around Sanctuary every now and then. I will post the log if it happens again.

If you're getting a little further each time, I'm thinking this is performance related. You could also try letting your scripts catch up, just sitting inside or near Sanctuary for 20 minutes or so could make a huge improvement. Might also be worth checking your save files in Fallrim Tools to see if the ActiveScripts number is excessive (a good count should be less than 20).

i get probably the same problem like FutureMartian97

i have only built in sanctuary and abernathy farm
17 settlers in sanctuary, 8 in abernathy both are at level 0
mod version 3.0.1 and now 3.0.2 beta

crash occurs even when everything is set to manual upgrade, first it seemed like it would crash during city upgrade but it crashes even if i dont upgrade anything.
maybe there is some older automated upgrade (of some single plot?) going, but then it did not crash before i updated to 3.0.1 and tried to upgrade the city

every log shows these last lines

  1. [01/06/2018 - 12:49:41PM] Spawning item 44 for plot reference [simsettlements:simplot < (FF006DDC)>]
