So what do you do in FO4

This may be a weird question to ask but I'll try anyway lol. So I've come to a point (again) where the only remotely interesting thing to do in game is settlements. Made it to level 92, finished the game with my favourite subversion mod (believe it or not, it makes the Institute ending not only good but really satisfying), finished all DLC except Automatron (liked it at first, now I hate it and avoid it), built up just about everything... Game is rather stable and I like how everything turned out, just bored. Is there some magic trick to keep on playing, or just ditch this save again and start anew? Or do something else finally?

I've done strict gunslinger or melee only runs to spice it up before I discovered SS2 - I don't think I would have started another playthrough without this mod tbh

Well, you said you didn't complete Automatron, so... Do it without armor and make it permadeath. No quicksaves are allowed XD

why are you doing this :unknw
I remember going there first hand after a 2 year break... at lvl 40 and got completely obliterated. checked the difficulty thinking it was very hard - it was normal. turned out that I'm just bad. Bad gear and really bad weapons... Thought the story was ok tho, better than main game even if that's not hard to top. After replaying it once or twice (and especially after other DLCs) I came to a conclusion that it sucks. And Ada bugged out for me for some reason, probably shouldn't have assigned her to a settlement. Maybe I should do it again, at least the bots were a challenge.
About the melee only runs etc - I've done pretty much a lightsaber only run if that counts...

I just dropped a post in the "good mods for a new game" thread over in the SS2 subsection about what I'm doing in my own current game; playing on Survival, trying to be "realistic" about it, just spent a full ingame day out in the woods hunting (mod-added) animals for meat and pelts to keep the newly reformed Sanctuary Hills stocked up. Bordering on 'roleplaying' I guess?
I haven't had a character make it past about level 50 or so in a LONG time though; all the testing and restarting I do to try to confirm bug reports for SS2 kind of gets in the way of actually playing the game myself.

This save is also running the combination of "Zombie Walkers" + "Feral Nights by SKK" - sure it's definitely not 'lore friendly', but at this point I'm not 100% concerned with sticking to that just to keep the game interesting. And that combo definitely does, adventuring at night is HELL.

Turning FO4 into RDR2 I see!
Every time I think of playing on survival, I just remember having to walk to Goodneighbor and that's the end of it. Not sure if I did it ever, unless there was an achievement for survival - probably not. But hey, sounds fun. I used the whispering hills mod (probably incompatible) for that adventuring hell feel, it definately adds that. Still in my top 3 mods of all time.

I don't remember RDR2 having "River Rats" that must weigh 200lbs, but sure.
I caught an extra thicc rainbow trout once but you're right, nothing like that. I'm sold.
trip to Virgil in the Glowing Sea twice
glowing sea doesn't make you crash every 2 minutes. Boston does. I've seen enough crashes that I came up with an idea of a 1x1 martial plot - CTD scarecrow. Cause when it comes to scary, nothing would top it.

This was only a juvenile one. The adult ones are "too heavy to move" and it floated down the river on me, but there's one visible on the other side of the river in the background.

Default Nora and Heather Casdin for scale; the gun I'm using is a FÉLIN FAMAS with the derpy "future warrior" optics taken back off

TIL a river rat is a beaver like thing. Not sure I'd want to hunt them, unless they are hostile and jump you like wolverines in far cry...
But who am I kidding, of course I'd hunt them. It's a game. IRL though, I'd admire them from a safe distance.

Since you mentioned the gun, what's that armor? Some synth/combat armor hybrid/reskin that actually looks kinda cool?
And Heather's hat reminds me of Cass for some reason.
When I finally get my hands on a PC, I want a clone suit with a jetpack and Darksaber. There better be portable flamethrowers, too.

My character's armor is a mix of pieces of Combat (Medium, arms and legs) and Synth (Light chest, and 'field helmet'), plus a belt and backpack from the mod "Wearable Backpacks and Pouches", and the gloves from mod "Courier Duster". Once I level up a bit more and can upgrade the Combat Armor pieces to Heavy, it kind of looks like the straps on the backpack and synth 'chestpiece' are what's holding those big shoulder pieces on, I like that look so I do it all the time, even if it means the part of the body that's least armored is the front of the torso (although the crafting mod I've got lets you Ballistic Weave the vault suit so that helps too).

Heather's hat is just the vanilla Militia Hat.

What is the mod that you used for the good Institute ending? I would like to try a play through with a mod like that. No good advice on what to do when you get to that boredom point - I generally work on the settlements that I have neglected (they are generally the same settlements for every character - the ones that I don't really know what to do - this is where SS2 has helped tremendously!) or take a break and play a different game.

Was unsure if it's out for PC but here it is. Gotta say it was not blatantly obvious what exactly to do to get the non-vanilla option, for me at least, but it works. I also liked the "peace between the 4 factions mod", though that one just skips over all quests and gives you a lot of unearned xp. But it inspired me to view the main quest differently, so that's nice. It was too much of a happy ending though, even in FNV you had to massacre at least one group.

I love being there with my robot army telling the NCR where to go.

Same, Yes-man ftw. Unless you're talking about Mr, House, but the man got class, so, wouldn't be a bad choice. Well, none of them would, even the roman cosplayers.

Awesome - thanks!
