Resolved Settlers not being auto-assigned to residential plots

Hey, first off, great mod! I really love the idea!

Unfortunately I am having an issue where I have to always manually assign new settlers to a residential plot, even though auto-assign and auto-assign from beds is ON. Once I do that, everything seems to work fine but I haven't been playing long enough to know for sure of course. I am giving them vanilla farming plots to farm, but I have jobs required set to OFF.

I've uploaded my saves at a temp file host here https://file.town/uploaded/jficylvjwstmsfr1bqkpopfyl (sorry for the crappy hosting, if you have a better suggestion please advise) and the mods I am using, none of which appear in the incompatible mods list are as follows (in load order):

Are you pre-building your plots before you get the settlers? Or heading back to the settlement and building your new settlers fresh plots? Both gameplay styles are supported, just trying to get a better handle on what's happening.

It's possible assignment isn't working when players are outside of the settlement - I haven't tested it again since really early in development.

So I assume you've got a bunch of plots laid out, you go out adventuring for a while, you come back and settlers are there not doing anything when they've had hours and hours they could have been assigned. Does that sound correct?

Next time you go back to a settlement and there are both un-used plots, and unassigned settlers, can you try sleeping for two hours and let me know if they are assigned within about 60 seconds of you waking up? The auto-assignment loop runs every two hours in game, so this should give me some insight into what's happening. If they do auto-assign, it means I need to fix assignment when the cell is unloaded.

If they don't auto-assign after you wake up, can you upload your save to a drop box or something before you manually assign them? That means something else is going on and I'll need to dig.

Hey, so I tried going back to the settlement and sleeping for a few hours, but no assignment I am afraid :(. Also, I think one of my settlers got un-assigned as there are now two homeless people and a half finished plot which shows as unoccupied. Not sure if that's just because the plot isn't finished though, as I am still showing a bed in my vanilla settlement UI from the half finished plot.

I really appreciate you taking a look at this by the way.

Looks like something in your load order is conflicting. I loaded in your game, slept for two hours and all of your settlers were auto-assigned to plots.

Your instinct is going to be to just check settlement related mods, but I find non-settlement mods to be more likely to cause conflicts. You actually the the perfect save file here to use the half-split method.

Load up your game with Sim Settlements and half of your other mods. Then sleep/wait for 2 hours and wait about 10 seconds. You should start getting notifications about citizens starting construction. If they don't start building, you know you're using the "bad half" of your mods; otherwise the disabled half is your "bad half".

Now load half of the "bad half" and do the same test. Each time identify the "bad half" and repeat the test.

It takes a maximum of 8 tries to find a bad mod this way. Let me know what you find out, love adding mods to my list of known trouble-makers!

If it turns out to be a well-known mod, the issue is probably just a load order thing and re-arranging your mods a bit will probably resolve it.

Hey, as luck would have it I found the bad mod pretty quickly :)

It was "Working Food Planters". After messing with the load order, it seems incompatible regardless of where it is. I had a look at the mod page and I saw that the last update was from late 2015, so I am assuming that it has some very old scripts or something that is causing the issue. Not a huge deal in any case as there are planters available through other mods (eg. HomeMaker), or the Wasteland Workshop DLC.

Thanks for the help, and the awesome mod! :agree:

EDIT: I didn't even need to disable the mod as the problems ceased as soon as I removed all the planters from the mod in the given settlement.
