Settler Captive Alt-Activation

I tried to free my captive settlers using the alt-activation option but so far it just makes them disappear forever.

I read the patch notes saying the captives would return to their faction command outpost but this hasn't been the case for any of them.

I'm hoping for a solution for them to return to normal generic settlers and I don't want to go replacing them everytime a settlement gets captured.

This is a bug I have just managed to replicate myself. I have made a ticket for it.

The prisoner menu should only appear for hostiles, not for innocent captives e.g settlers. Please ignore the menu until this is patched - it will eventually disappear once the assault scripts catch up.

Thanks for the response - is there an alternative to freeing the captives where their names and behaviour revert to regular settlers?

Yes - if you ignore them, they eventually revert by themselves. It can take several minutes sometimes depending on how many mods are loaded and how many active scripts are running, but it will eventually happen. If you fast travel away and let things settle for a moment, the next time you happen to visit, they should be back to normal.

Done this one a few times but they still get stuck as captives. Is it recommended to wait in the settlement in real time after I capture it and then fast travel away and back?

Yes, you can try that - sometimes staying in the affected area and just idling your character can help with script lag. If this still doesn't resolve after say, 10-15 minutes, please let me know.

Yeah tried loading my save and recapturing Warwick Homestead 3 times for around 10-15 minutes but they still stay as Captives. The Warwicks and Cedric reset but not my generic ones

I've been playing Chapter 3 for a couple weeks now, and the generic, unnamed settlers never reset from captives, no matter how long I sit in the settlement. Their hostility goes away, but that's all. I had to release all of them, banishing them from the game forever, and just repopulate the settlements with recruitment beacons. shrug I'll dig through my load order to see if anything might be causing this, but I don't know what exactly to look for.

If you have any companions with you, they will continue to attack any captives if you are still in the settlement. It took several minutes for mine to return to default settler state. It would give me the prisoner dialog, allowing me to ransom them or let them go. I just wanted them to revert.
