Primary Bug Report Mod Start - Stranger fails to show up after building, powering, and activating a Recruitment Beacon

I downloaded the mod a couple of hours ago, but I have yet to begin anything. I don't know how to get the ASAM Sensors because they're not in the spot they were originally with the first Sim Settlements (Museum of Freedom). I found a magazine on the Sanctuary workshop, so I built a recruitment beacon and waited... and nothing happened.... no stranger arrived. I waited for around 15 minutes (IRL) and there was no progression. All I want to know is how to collect the ASAM Sensors in a very specific set of instructions please.

I’m still learning how to use mods. I pretty much deleted all the mods I had besides this. I don’t understand how they work yet. Load order and all the tech talk that goes with them. It’s all very confusing

I was having the same issue, I uninstalled every mod except SS2 and the workshop framework which has fixed it. Once I met up with the stranger I was able to reinstall the mods I had removed.

Everyone having problems in this thread;
Sorry, to hear - yes it can be frustrating. There must be an installation issue or some other conflict.

A few things to make sure;
1 - you are using a good mod manager (if on PC).
2 - Make sure you have installed the requirements for SS2;
  • Hudframework
  • Workshop framework
3 - make sure you start a new game for best results.
4 - Make sure you are using the latest version of SS2, and the SS2 add on mods.
(yes, check every day).

Just a note on mod managers.
A good mod manager helps in finding issues and turning mods on and off. I suggest either Vortex or Mod Organizer 2.
Do not use NexusModManager - it uses outdated technology and has a high change to cause issues with either mods that conflict or removing mods.

  • Vortex is powerful, somewhat easy to use, and well supported.
  • Mod organizer 2 is very powerful, not as easy to use, and well supported.

Both are used successfully by tens of thousands of users.
Check on youtube for tutorials by gamerpoets on successful installation.

Best of luck, and sorry to not have more specific answers.

Hi :). I should have mentioned I am using an Xbox 1 x console. Should I download a mod manager like you suggested? I am extremely new to using mods and would like to use a few but I do not understand how they conflict etc. my game seems to be running smoothly as of last night. Would a mod manager prevent conflicts if I download something that will conflict with SS2? I’m sorry to ask so many questions but I am not tech savvy with this stuff at all :)

Sadly, there are no sophisticated mod manager options for console that I am aware of.
Best of luck - I understand the appeal of console gaming (we are both a ps4 and xbox household) - but it can be frustrating regarding dealing with mods on those otherwise awesome platforms.
best of luck to you.

I am on PC and using

  • LOOT to get the mods in a good loadorder
  • VORTEX to install and handle the mods
  • F4SE to start FO4

I have like 20 mods and still the stranger spawned. I had to watch a YT-video since stewpid me did not understand how to spawn the NPC :D
(Make Settler-Beacon, power it and wait some sec)

Not gonna lie... I thought this was going to be a legit game changing mod, but turns out it just isn't playable at the moment. I backed up all my local game files and validating them, reinstalled Fallout 4, loaded the only 3 necessary mods and started a new game. Guess what? The stranger does not even show up after I build the radio beacon at Sanctuary. Is there something I am missing here? Because to me it just looks like this mod is the biggest bait of 2020 so far in Fallout 4 modding. Btw, I followed the Raybo video picture perfectly and still nothing happened... no stranger spawn.. After that I tried to spawn him in through the console and even THAT didn't work! Please help?!

p.s. I know that the mod is actually installed because I picked up the magazine on the workshop in Sanctuary

Mods:
-Sim Settlements 2
-Workshop Framework

you need the Hud framework mod, and patience - after you have built the Radio Beacon just wait about 30 seconds, leave the workshop interface and just wait near the beacon and keep turning around till you see him.

This is what I did, so hopefully, that helps

Can someone please help, I have downloaded versions A-D with absolutely zero luck (No I have not downloaded the bugged version E). I have tried on 4 new saves to get the mod to work but I simply cannot get the stranger to appear. I have picked up the magazine, placed and powered the beacon and waited... then waited and waited some more with no luck. I also cannot give myself the holotape through MCM, I have tried every possible fix and I am stuck. I wish I could play the mod but I cannot, any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have the required mods, my load order is pretty massive but it is a follows.

It's guaranteed that my load order is to blame but if someone could tell me what mods to remove that would be sick!
(I've tried disabling all settler related mods on a new save, doesn't make a difference)
It's definitely something clashing with SS2 as I've literally had invisible settlers and literal rad roaches labeled settlers come to the beacon.

I would be curious about disabling the mod about smarter settlers, and real name settlers.
I suspect those mess with a lot of settlement related scripts.

also, this load order says ss2 is disabled;
SS2.esm=0

You may have to brute force it.
Get a clean save of leaving the vault.
(there are some on nexus, if you need some, look under the save games category).
Put in just SS2 and its requirements.
See if it works.
Then add back mods about 20 at a time, until it does not work.
Then of those last 20, take them out, and add back single mods until it breaks.

Sorry don't have a better answer.

Honestly after looking at all these replies and having the same issues myself I think I’ll just uninstall the mod, no offense seriously I just don’t wanna get too into this and get frustrated

Sort of the same problem. I started a new game specifically for this mod. All I used was unofficial patch, workshop framework, hud framework, sim settlements 2 and alternate start. The magazine is there but I don't even receive the components for the beacon. When I finally gather everything and activate it no stranger appears, just some settlers. Also I don't get any of the additional hud elements in workshop mode. I checked and re-checked all the data and everything is up to date. Something is seriously rotten here. We need a fix asap!

Take out alternative start.
If you want to skip the start up, look for one of the many clean saves on nexus.
Here is one;

I am sorry you are encountering a problem - unfortunately there may not be a fix for what ever specific issue you are having - as tens of thousands of pople are NOT having that issue... there will be another patch tomorrow, but it sounds like an odd system or mod conflict.

Best of luck with disabling the alternative start.

Okay, so I disabled every mod except for ss2, hud framework and workshop framework and I'm still having the same issue. Completely new game, no change. Sorry to say, but this has lost all the appeal for now. Maybe when the compatability issues have been smoothed out, I'll give it another go.

There isn't going to be any compatibility with alt starts. Don't use them. Period. It's the other mod author job to be compatible with Sim Settlements not the other way around
