Bug Minutemen Questline Bug

Hi,

Update 10th August 2020:

After a few days of testing I seem to have narrowed down what seems to be causing my problem/bug.

I should be noted I do not have Conquerer installed.

It appears to purely be a conflict with the We are The Minutemen mod (WatM), at least for me.

I removed mods until i only had Sim Settlements (3in1) + add on packs, unofficial patch and then added/removed WatM as necessary. None of my other mods (200 active esps) cause my problems, only when WatM is installed.

With WatM installed I get all the following problems:

  • Preston Dialogue gets stuck on 'The First Step' - bat file Does fix this though.
  • Preston only gives kidnapping/raider/supermutant quests to exsisting settlements.
  • Quests associated with unclaimed settlements seem to be disabled. I could not do the locket quest for Abernathy Farm, Gray Garden water quest etc. Settlers just give basic dialogue or stare blankly at player.
Console commands work in order to start settlement quests that preston would normally give by talking to him. But it seems that I would have to do this everytime I wanted to add a new settlement, as he still just gives raider quests when talking to him.

I also tried changing the amount of active quests allowed bt WatM in FO4Edit from 1 to 3. But this didn't solve anything.

Without WatM installed I only get the 'the First step' dialogue issue. This is fixed by running the bat file and Preston then gives out the quests he normally would after that.

In my original post I stated: 'I do use We Are The Minutemen, but I tried a fresh start with that removed and the problem persisted'. This was a mistake on my end. I had only disabled the Esp not uninstalled. Its seems that only by fully uninstalling WatM and deleting the archive does the problem go away (for me).

Not sure what more I can test out as I appear to have hit a brick wall on my end.

Maybe unrelated but worth mentioning, WatM has quite a few conflicts with the unofficial patch. All the radiant quests have a confliction in FO4edit. Which I fixed on my non Workshop Framework game and have not run into any problems.

Maybe the Title should be changed to 'We Are The Minutemen conflict' or 'We Are The Minutemen possible conflict'? As I cannot seem to do this myself, maybe a Moderator could if deemed suitable.

Original post:
(Italic text is new/edited)

Sorry if this is the wrong place to post this. Or this question/problem has already been answered (I couldn't find anything myself).

I was wondering if anyone else has had the following problem and knows of a solution/work around.
Or knows what maybe causing a conflict with another mod to create the following Issue. I would really like to use the awesome looking 'Kinggath's Customizable Sanctuary' which needs this mod to work.

It should be noted that Workshop Framework is the only new mod I added for a fresh playthrough. Never had this problem with over 200 hours in a previous playthrough with all my other mods.

When using Workshop Framework I have an issue with the Minutemen Quests given by Preston after completing the First Step Quest.

Old Text:
(When using Workshop Framework, it seems to mess up the Minutemen Quests given by Preston after completing 'The First Step). - end

Instead of giving a quest to claim/help a new settlement, he only gives kidnapping/raider/supermutant quests to exsisting settlements. As this is early in the game I only have 3 settlements (Sanctuary/ Tenpines/ Red Rocket).

I completed 6 quests in a row going back and forth between sanctuary and Tenpines (red Rocket was empty), hoping this would fix itself but unfortunately it didn't.

Also, quests associated with unclaimed settlements seem to be disabled. I could not do the locket quest for abernathy Farm, Gray Garden water quest etc.

Old Text:
(Also the mod seems to completely disable quests associated with unclaimed settlements. I could not do the locket quest for abernathy Farm, Gray Garden water quest etc.) - end

I do use We Are The Minutemen, but I tried a fresh start with that removed and the problem persisted. Also I could not find any conflicts between the two mods in FO4edit.

Started a new game with Workshop Framework removed, rushed through the beginning and the problem has gone away and got a quest to help Oberland Station ( I also do not have the Preston Dialogue bug anymore, but that was an easy fix).

I was wondering if the 'Claim all Settlements' (or the one that lets you claim the settlement you are in) tool could be the culprit for this bug/problem. If I am correct, is there a way to remove this feature myself or use an older version that does not include this and is compatable with the latest versions of Sim Settlements? Or Maybe this part of Workshop framework is conflicting with another mod?

Sorry for the huge amount of text.

Thank you for your time reading this.

Edit Note: I left the old text up to show how I poorly worded the orignal post. 99% sure that the problem is not with Workshop Framework itself but to be a conflict with another mod. Didn't want to delete it to hide what an idiot I was. At time of editing I have not been able to find what mod is conflict.

It seems very unlikely to me that workshop framework is the cause of your problems.

Given how many things can go wrong and the tendency of users to imply a cause and effect off a limited sample that others are not reporting "millions of downloads" hummm - "correlation does not imply causation."

Sure you removed it but most users have a lot of mods adding one and then having a problem like this is likely more coincidence and not causation either. Missing a NPC dialogue quest queue is very common in vanilla Fo4 more so using mods and that is what this sounds like. This hanging NPC dialogue issue can cause very severe and significant problems in Fo4.

This is something that I recommend rolling back your save on/for, and replaying once it is discovered.

Then again I could be completely wrong and you can blow off my response.

As-is, I did not think at this point anyone was going to respond to this so I did want to ensure you didn't think no one read your issues or cared about your problem. :friends

Seriously, all I have for you here is roll back and replay. :scratchhead

Feel free to repost, add your load order, or add details as you work through it. :bye

There might be something another user will see or have insight on?

Thanks for the reply RayBo.

Realised I poorly worded my post/title. I should have said possible conflict or something like that not bug. Also I shouldn't have said "When using Workshop Framework, it seems to mess up the Minutemen Quests given by Preston"

Maybe I should worded something like "when using Workshop Framework I have an issue with the Minutemen Quests given by Preston and there maybe a conflict with another mod I am using.

Sorry.

I will try and edit my original post shortly.

I tried rolling back a few times, but unfortunately the problem kept happening.

My load order should be ok. I use Loot and make sure that any mods that need to be in a specific place (as indicated by the mods page on Nexus), are manualy moved (or what ever Vortex calls it now).

Been thinking on my issue and wondering if it could be the following:

Mod A + We are the Minutemen (as it makes changes to the radiant quests) + Workshop Framework = My problem with the dialogue/ given quests.

As for what Mod A is, I have no idea as yet. I have nearly 200 mods running in my game at present, so that is going to be a headache for me to test.

If I ever find out what is causing this I will update.

Sorry for the second wall of text.

Thanks again for the reply. :bye

I'm in a similar situation. I use the We are the Minutemen mod as well. After saving Preston in a new game, when we're all back in Sanctuary, Preston will not give me the quest to help Ten Pines Bluff. He'll start his dialogue and just before he assigns the mission the dialogue just stops and I'm stuck in the dialogue screen with no progression. I started a new game and disabled (maybe I should have uninstalled) We are the Minutemen. I was still getting stuck in the dialogue screen. I started another new game with Simsettlements and Workshop Framework both uninstalled and I was able to progress thru the dialogue event with Preston while running We are the Minutemen. I need to do some more troubleshooting. I know We are the Minutemen changes how Preston assigns quests, I'm guessing something is off on their end.

I'm having the same problem I've tried WF on its own aswell with skk50 quick start and quick minutemen mod and the awkward pause you get when you finish when freedom calls and the first steps becomes an eternal state down.

Have you guys tried the optional Preston Dialogue Stuck Fix from the Workshop Framework page?

@Marced @Luke Stanway I've been told to try this *before* you talk with Preston for the first time in Sanctuary:

prid 9b1ac; setvalue 12723e 2

That should let Preston continue.

Hey this worked! I was experiencing this bug, but via a reload to before Preston got stuck I was able to get The First Step to start up correctly.

Also, quests associated with unclaimed settlements seem to be disabled. I could not do the locket quest for abernathy Farm, Gray Garden water quest etc.
I wonder if this could be the same bug as the one causing Preston to bug out when he should give The First Step or potentially another bug? But I think it can't really be effectively determined as being a separate issue at this point in time without further detailed information. Is Conqueror in use? It would be useful to know the load order.

Otherwise my best guess is that likely doing prid 9b1ac;setvalue 12723e 2 will solve this. But if this is actually a separate bug then it's important to try to gather up whatever relevant information as possible in order to be able to help Kinggath be able to solve it.

I fired up a different save.
Got the bug with Preston.
Right in the middle of the first Sanctuary conversation where he should ask the player to help with the first settlement.
This is before setting up the opt quest with Sturges.
Running the WSFW bat file did not work before the conversation for me.
It did work when the conversation had already hanged in the middle.
I assume if someone powers past this point and breaks dialog with Preston that it would then bug several things after that point.

IDK here, but will move it to the bugs section.

I'm sorry I forgot to put I'm on xbox I sorry if I wasted any of your time.
I don’t want you to think you’ve been ignored...afraid that I have no solution. :/

HI! i have the same issue with Preston and I've been trying to fix it. I don't know my way around computers very well and I've been trying to use the Preston dialogue stuck fix thing in workshop framework, but I can't figure out how to open it. I'll get it downloaded and it'll try to open in internet explorer but it just copies itself and doesn't open.I can't get it to open in anything else. I have vortex downloaded and its working. Do I need to launch it somehow? I'm so clueless! I could really use the help getting the fix to work correctly. What am I doing wrong?
