Question Looking for anyone who gets the consistent, reproducible client crash on exit with Conqueror active

EDIT: As this is a known issue, can anyone else experiencing this post here or PM me their load order? I'd like to see if I can figure out what we all have in common.

I have a number of active savegames. Only one of them has Conqueror *active* but I have not disabled or uninstalled it in any of the others.
In the active Conqueror playthrough, any attempt to exit the game crashes the client. It freezes, only a taskkill will get rid of it. I can exit to the menu, but I can't exit to the desktop at all - not from the menu, not from in the game - without it freezing.
I can save, load, start, exit, etc. any combination using any other saves - but as soon as I load the Conq game, trying to exit the client causes it to freeze.

Normally, when exiting the client, the music and all sounds stop instantly, then the screen is refreshed / cleared.
With this bug, as soon as I select exit to desktop, the mouse pointer freezes, the client becomes unresponsive, I can't minimize or alter screen, and the music / sounds keep playing.
It seems like I've hit some edge case where there's a script that REALLY doesn't want me to go off and leave it alone.

Do you use Fallrim Tools?

If so, could you compare the Active Scripts in this save to an earlier save of the same game?

Another thought. Could you try going into a small interior cell and letting the game run for about half an hour and then attempt a save?

These are just stabs in the dark on my part.
 
There's been a few reports of it and the only way we're going to narrow it down is by comparing loadorders and finding the mods in common.

I've had this problem for a while now and have to kill the process every time.

I joined this forum because I have this exact issue and the person helping on the nexus for conquerors suggested I post the issue here. The exit save does get created but I have to ctrl alt del every time, which is worrisome. This is the first time playing FO4 that I've had this issue, and I don't get this issue when playing saves that don't have Conqueror installed (this is my first time using SS so I can't say if it's specifically an SS issue).

At least now I know it isn't just me. Will follow up.
 
Update 11:35pm ET: Well, the driver update seemed to help gameplay, at least it felt better. Sadly, it did not fix the exit save crash issue.

I tried running Skyrim SE a couple years ago and it crashed in an hour. I have Old Skyrim anyways, and while not super stable, it's more stable.

Anyways, I did notice my driver for my Nvidia 1050 is wayyy out of date. I'm updating it now and hoping maybe it will help.

I also have this when I do my load order... it seems to occur when I get over 100 mods (plugins) installed. And if I try to find it, it seems to be a different one...

I just started a new install and game last night with Conqueror... with some clothing, better locational damage, raider/SM/Synth/Minutmen overhauls/SS and addon packs, I am sitting at 38mb save file... and just got to Sanctuary.

I do a staged install to avoid conflicts with Pre-war.

No lockups till I installed all the SS/addon's packs and completed with weather and visuals...

Honestly, I don't think it is a mod conflict - I still believe personally, there is a memory/size/allocation issue going on... and think having an external file saved out of Conqueror/SS would alleviate data bloating the save...

I wonder about this myself since I've had the problem outside of this mod and in another game.
 
So I have an update. I decided to go to Nuka World, since I was sick of the raiders acting as if that was already done (Also wanted that sweet gun; Also this isn't a critique). Well, so I go and defeat Colter and all that. Now, I don't know what it is but I have a different issue.
The game gets stuck when I quicksave. This has never happened before.
However, if I save then do an exit save, the client doesn't crash. It just goes to desktop like it's supposed to. So I guess it's kinda fixed...but quicksave isn't working. I could just not quicksave, which isn't a huge deal, but it is an interesting problem.
 
I was getting the "exit freeze". Started a new game without the pre-built settlements and all is normal again when quitting to desktop. Only went the non pre-built route as I have the settlement clean and tidy mod installed and the prebuild was floating in the air at Hangman's and wouldn't nuke clean.
 
Hello guys, any new info on this issue that my limited search-fu abilities missed ?

I've done the staged start, left FO4 run for half a day to init everything and it's still happening.
 
Nope, it's just a result of having script heavy mods.
If you have edited the papyrus memory allocation it amplifies this issue because it allows more scripts to stay running.
 
Just jumping in to say this also happens to me, although honestly it isn't a big deal. You don't even need to open task manager -- just click in and out of the window until windows detects fallout 4 is not responding, hit "close" and as soon as the progress bar shows, hit "cancel" and it will close immediately.

Someone up above mentioned Better Locational Damage. I'm using it too. At first I wondered if its helmet protection scripts might be the issue, but in an old SS Conqueror save I was using BLD /and/ Nuclear Winter without issue. So pinning down exactly which mod it is... doesn't seem easy.

Edit : I've deactivated Better Locational Damage, Better Explosives Redux, Configurable Minutemen Radiant Quest Limit and picked only 8 pre-built settlements when initializing Conqueror (to get it to finish faster) and the problem went away.

Now to look for a way to see what scripts are in my save games.

Somewhere I found the folder for nexus mod manager where it shows the active scripts and from which mod. You would be amazed that the simplest mod can have scripts attached.

I can give you one that I found intensive in a settlement if you build too many - Better Cooking. Especially in Sanctuary. It converts all the cooking stations in the world to hanging, swinging meat, an assignable work station, etc.

What I am saying is that it doesnt have to be a big mod, or an overhaul that causes issues. Find what has scripts and decide for yourself if you really need it.

Also, people like to run 200+ mods. Yes can be done, but if you keep it 100 or less, you will be more satisfied with the stability.

I know, it's just clothes, outfits, armor, etc.. I use cbbe and build one body shape. I also apply the same body texture for Nora and the settler NPC's. However if you dont, realize for every outfit selection, every body texture difference, in an area with a lot of NPCs, you will also hog down your system because the game has to load and render all those unique items and textures.

It is sometimes the little things you think shouldn't affect your computer and load down the weak game engine (not made for 5yrs later for the vast modding), but it does.

Top end computers dint see it as easily, but when I see hits on my system, I can only imagine what a potato sees.

Since April, I have tried/played 4 Conqueror/BoS Liberator games. My experience has been:
  • April/May/June - Games 1 and 2: I experienced numerous (at one point almost continuous) Quit freezes, Save freezes, and CTDs after 20 - 30 hrs into each game and eventually stopped playing, see https://simsettlements.com/site/index.php?threads/three-situations-need-assisance.9761/
  • October - Games 3 and 4: Game 3 started Quit freezing early in the game, but this was fixed by eliminating one old mod, Fallout Loot Overhaul. Game 4 is now playing reasonable well.
What I did between Games 1/2/3 and 4 were:
  • Deleted all Nexus and Steam mods, game saves, and Steam FO4 game files including files left after using Steam uninstall
  • Reinstalled Steam FO4, and Kinggath’s and Takarazuka's mods after they updated their respective mods in early October (I prefer playing as BoS Liberator)
  • Did not install any scrap mods
  • Did not install any mods that logically appeared to potentially conflict with SS, RotC, Conqueror and the BoS Faction pack
  • After Game 3 started giving me the Quit freeze, did a mod hunt and deleted the old mod Fallout Loot Overhaul, which stopped the freezing see https://simsettlements.com/site/index.php?threads/exit-to-desktop-game-freeze.8399/page-4#post-79314 .
As a result, Game 4 is now reasonable stable for me, but I am playing with no DLCs and only 38 mods. After more than 160 hours of play, I have had 15 non-recurring CTDs, no Quit freeze and no Save freezes.
