Inquiry on our boy Jake (romance spoilers beware)

Damn, I hope I get through the HQ stuff soon! The first thread I joined was about this, but I never thought we'd actually get it (thanks!)! Been losing a bit of sleep trying to reach the end of the chapter! XD
Side note, I found a picture of Laura in Jake's upgraded quarters. So sweet, really looking forward to meeting her!

Don't romance Jake. I got the impression from one of the writers that if you get in jake's mangina they're gonna kill his wife to avoid conflict. Or maybe a 3some option, its the 23rd century after all. So if you want to meet her, make sure he keeps that virgin butthole intact. Better keep Lupe away from him too just in case.

edit just remembered laura was the daughter. Nvm.

Honestly, I've only recently gotten into the mod after my friend suggested it and I immediately fell in love with Jake as a character. His VA does an absolutely amazing job portraying his character and he feels like an actual human being, compared to most of the characters from Fallout 4 itself.

I'm also someone who enjoys getting in character when playing games like Fallout, which playing the character archetype I am alongside Jakes character makes things extremely interesting. As well as with the other characters, ofc, their VA's did an amazing job. But Jake holds a place in my heart with his little 'darlin's.
Out of curiosity, what character archetype do you play? I’d love to hear about your Sole and Jake’s dynamic.

Personally, my Sole is “Charmer” through and through: Charisma, Perception, Agility, Intelligence. I play her as a big ole flirt who’s super affectionate/friendly/helpful. She longs for Pre-War days, and descriptions of her range from “They don’t make ‘em like her anymore” to “beautiful, but deadly,” to “collects strays”

I imagine she and Jake banter often and share similar visions for the Commonwealth. They both geek out over Pre-War tech.

but they run into problems when:
1) He projects his hero fantasies onto her (she feels it erases her personhood and it’s an ideal she can never fully live up to)
2) He isn’t completely honest with her (she does NOT take dishonesty well because she’s generally pretty trusting of her friends)
3) He tries to shoehorn her into a role without acknowledging her other abilities (I.E. “you’re capable, go clear that place of hostiles. I’ll stay here and work on Sciencey stuff that you Definitely Couldn’t Help Me With despite being a Robotics Expert, Nuclear Physicist, Scientist, and Scrapper. Nope, you’re just the good-looking muscle!” SMH )

Out of curiosity, what character archetype do you play? I’d love to hear about your Sole and Jake’s dynamic.

Originally my character was going to be an asshole hardcore to everyone, they were from the vaults but had left earlier then the game projected (I'll be damned if I'm playing a confused damsel for the seventh time) and ended up joining up with the gunners in the area till they got wiped out. During this time they began relying on drugs to deal with the pain of being unable to find their kid and losing so much in such a short time.

They have a slick tongue with high charisma and can call which side a coin will land on with ease, but wasn't exactly the brightest bulb in the shed thanks to their drug usage. They'd demand extra caps from any job, even if it was a simple case of 'I need a drink' or something mundane. Overall just being an awful person. She's extremely scarred up, with tattoos and a rugged but well taken care of appearance about her. Having been molded by the new world in the time she's been out of the vault.

Their dynamic at first was an old PTSD ridden vet interacting with a bubbly goodie farm boy, he made jokes, they responded with a cold demeanor of irritation. But as Jake continued to interact with them, toning down the overly business man demeanor and becoming partners, they grew closer and she actually got accustomed with his personality. Being able to relate to losing a kid in their own ways, which resulted in her becoming extremely protective of Jake to a new degree.

She began aligning her goals with Jakes, in the sense that she wants him to be happy, because that makes her happy. Though when he's not around she'll drown back into her cold old ways, but she'll go to the ends of the Commonwealth and farther to keep his smile around.

Most of their dynamic can be expressed through text, such as;
1) She'll go to hell and back just to get a result that Jake prefers, which has resulted in her putting others and herself at extremely high risks just to get things done. Such as with the Gunner base, Aiden was persistent they should go in guns blazing, but she refused and risked going in undercover. Knowing that Jake wouldn't want them to murder an entire base of people for him, but also putting them unarmed in the middle of enemy territory.

2) Because of the loss of her family and how close Jake got to being killed, she's extremely protective of him. To the point where during the Gunner base raid, when he went to the basement and Wes ordered soldiers down there, she doubled back to make sure he didn't need back up. Which has resulted in her slightly doubting Jake's abilities as a fighter.

3) This is a big thing, which is just because of how the stories pacing is. But in character is in character. The fact Jake avoids topics quite often has her irritated quite often, seeing as she's very upfront and more of a hammer when it comes to dealing with issues. Whereas Jake comes off as a scalpel, where he's more precise and slow with how he handles things.

Either way, I've been enjoying the dynamic a load. Makes me excited for Chapter 3, though it'll be atleast a year before it comes out.

[EDIT:] Also Sirick be in here dropping slight hints, absolute chad.

Has anyone played through as though they’re happy to be rid of the old ball-and-chain? I personally do not want kids, so when Shaun was kidnapped in my first play through I thought “hell yeah, fresh start.” Unfortunately the game makes you sounds like care about him all the time

I'm doing it with most of my characters. Sadly the writing doesn't even include such options as caring about the murdered spouse more than about the child. That's one of the things I liked better about Fallout 3.

I know, the closest you can get is emphasizing revenge on Kellogg over recovering Shaun. Kellogg is a badass though, and one of the coolest villains since James gandolfini in The Mexican. I wanted to hired him to guard a settlement. Why take out the institutes people when you can turn them? I have a 10 CHA, I doubt fathers dry ass has that much.

Sadly can't do that exactly, I get really irritated with the dialogue quickly. But I found a mod that modifies all the dialogue of your character and basically has you playing as a Synth from the Institute. Sent to infiltrate the other factions and attempt to sway them to your side (or destroy them). It's even voiced dialogue, which is a fresh pace compared to the usual 'I need to find my son.'

Is there a mod that lets you find Shaun and sell him to Bullet?

As funny as that is, I don't think so. But there is a mod where you can throw him in a prison cell and take over the Institute I believe, same as Preston.
There’s a mod that lets you throw 1 of the 4 black men in the game in prison? Was it made by Nathan Bedford Forrest?

Not a race thing. Is literally just because you can throw the leaders of basically every faction in prison and people get irritated with Prestons constant 'another settlement needs your help' pestering.

WATM fixes his nonstop quest bs. No more than one at a time and minimum 3 day cool down between.

OMFG! WTAF! This offends on so many levels...I am seriously considering purging all of SS just because of this BS! @kinggath F this S! Option or not I disapprove!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This SH!T pervades every aspect of daily life now and I refuse it invading my GAME!!!!!!!!!!!

Chapter 2 is setting up Jake's romance, so you'll get a confirmation from Jake at the end of Chapter 2 if he considers the two of you in a romance or not. But you'll have to wait until Chapter 3 for the romance to really begin. Sorry!!
@kinggath I just want to say to whomever came up with this idea...YOU KILLED SS FOR ME! The SINGLE REASON I wanted to play FO4 again and I have been with SS from the beginning and now I hate it and everything there is to do with it. JUST BECAUSE OF THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! F U !!!!!!! @kinggath I hope you take this personally because this offends me so much that you allowed it! Thanks for FK'n up my one piece of joy!

I'd be curious to know what it is you have a problem with? Could you elaborate?
