Question Creation Kit Render Window Blank

Here's one for the folks with newer systems... Just got a new laptop with an NVIDIA RTX 2070 Super GPU. The screen also has a high refresh rate of 330Hz. When I launch Creation Kit, the render window is just a blank white window, as are any of the render windows for characters or items. If I select a cell to load, you can tell the Creation Kit knows it's there. I can "click" on objects and even double-click to pull up their properties, I just can't see anything. Even the mouse cursor changes when I click on something. See below (the 4-way cursor isn't showing from the screenshot, but you get the idea).

Things I've tried:
  • Setting iPresentInterval = 0, 1, and 2
  • Tried with the ENB / Tried without the ENB (made no difference in my old system, BTW)
  • Capping frame rate at 60 FPS / Uncapping frame rate and letting it run free
  • Changing the size of the window in CreationKitPrefs.ini
  • Loading it with no mods / Loading it with a bunch of mods (selecting only one)
  • Turning on V-sync / Turning off V-sync
  • Turning on G-sync / Turning off G-sync
  • Matching the settings to my game settings in NVIDIA control panel (which, it's worth mentioning works just fine both the standard launcher and F4SE)
  • Lowering monitor to 60hz *
That last one, lowering the monitor to 60hz worked. I was mostly resigned to switching my monitor back and forth, although I keep forgetting.

Here's the kicker: at one point, I forgot I had CK open, changed my monitor back to 330Hz, and CK kept working just fine! The render window was great, every ran and loaded faster and better than it ever has. So obviously there's no reason I need to change my refresh rate, right? It's gotta be something else that is/is not happening when it loads.

Here's my NVIDIA Settings for the hell of it. These work just fine in-game, so that's why I copied them over:

I can't be the first person with some of this new-fangled hardware that works in CK. Admittedly, I don't know my way around CKPrefs.ini, but I've changed very little in there. Could this be an Open GL issue? DirectX? Any ideas? I'm stumped!

Thank you for posting that site. Surprised I haven't run across it yet. Unfortunately, it didn't help. The driver version I have is several versions over the one mentioned in that article. Even still, I uninstalled the driver completely with Direct Driver Uninstaller and reinstalled, and no change.

After searching a lot of places, I did find this mod on Nexus [ High FPS Physics Fix ] that fixes the game itself from the same basic problem. Seems that it's a pretty common issue with high refresh rate monitors, no matter what settings you go with. I'll write the author and ask/beg/bribe to see if he can work on a version for Creation Kit. Unfortunately, I'm not at all proficient with C# or C++ (I'm more of a F flat - -), or I'd at least attempt to look a it. :\

You have to keep in mind the age of this game. IIRC, the GTX 700 series was king at the time. I imagine the CK is worse as it was designed for Skyrim. I can't remember for sure, but I don't think G-sync was out at the time.

The most likely answer as you have found, keep the fps locked at 60. You may want to disable things that were not available when the game was released like, Multi-Frame Sampled AA. You may want to put power management at max performance as usually laptops default to 'sipping' power.

It is rumored the author that made CK fixes for SKSE is making a FO4 version. You may want to get in touch with them.

Ooooohh, I do. But as much of a technophile as I am, my personal computers have rarely been on the cutting edge. Or even right behind cutting edge. In fact, I’m usually several generations behind, so this is a bit weird. I also know this FO4 Mod Community is incredibly talented and varied and active, and I had hoped (and still do) that someone will (eventually) not accept the fact that the brand new hardware they just acquired isn’t being fully utilized and figures out how to fix it. :grin

It’s all good, and I’m still glad it works without too many hiccups. I’m perfectly willing to wait, cooperate, and support where I can. But as I know from development both through my work and my hobbies, the awareness for a requirement isn’t known until someone speaks up. Even then I understand there are never any guarantees (boy, do I), but it doesn’t hurt to ask. I do think it‘s a bit strange, considering even Bethesda is still developing on the Creation Engine for ‘76, as well as their next project, from what I hear. They can’t all still be working on GTX 700s. (Or maybe I should say, I’d be very disappointed if they were.)

I highly appreciate your suggestions, though! I’m pretty sure I’ve adjusted those settings since my original post and it didn’t have any affect, but I’m willing to entertain any suggestions.
