Continuous crashing, after trying forum pinned fixes

So I was having crashing/freezing problems whenever I vised npc led settlements, specifically starlight drive in with the RotC expansion enabled. I tried most of the suggestions listed at the pinned crashes thread, but I also have a pretty high end system 16gb of ram, AMD FX-8350 (8 core, 4.34ghz) processor, and a R9 390 (8gb vram) graphics card so I think having too many items in a settlement plot shouldnt be as much of an issue as when I played vanilla fallout with a script that allowed me to ignore settlement limits I would get lower fps but would never crash.

I have had sim settlements installed since vanilla and have played off and on as it evolved so I thought it might just be because of all the installing and unintstalling new versions the save file has got corrupted, which I suspect to be the case, but anyways thought I would voice my problem here anyway.

Can send a save file when ready.

other mods installed:
HUD framework
unofficial fallout 4 patch
enhanced blood textures
rain of brass
brighter settlement lights
manufacturing extended
better junk fences
improved map with visable roads
more power armor paint
atomic radio
settlement menu manager
mod configuration menu
ENB (with the recommended stuttering and memory patch boost)
GraFix Texture Overhaul and for DLCs
Vivid Fallout Landscapes

as well as a few of the free creation club dlcs

for what its worth, it seemed to develop over time after i installed the 3 in 1 version and uninstalling base sim settlements + expansions..... but then also I dont think I started the npc RotC settlement at starlight till I had the 3 in 1 installed, which is the main center of problems it seems (It often crashes when I visit to or after I travel from to another high density area)

The biggest problem is script lag... the RotC city plans are very good at bringing the problem front & center. LOL
So what is your Unattached Instances & Active Scripts like?

I must apologize, Im not sure what you mean, woodfuzzy (tbh im probably an amateur when it comes to bethesda modding)

just to join in, please go to https://www.simsettlements.com/site...-and-conflicts-advice-links-and-more-pc.5982/ and look for the link to Fallrim tools. I will be building a guide to explain how to use Resaver which will give you the answers to what @woodfuzzy means, but doing these guides are taking us a while.

I dont want to go into a lengthy discussion but I run One old High End PC, one New High End PC and an Xbox one and to be honest my old PC runs the game better. It is not always to do with your PC capability as you have to focus more around Fallout 4's Game Engine capability/limtation as well.

Resaver (Fallrim Tools) is not hard to figure, just please read the guide about backing up data before giving it a go, your aim is to get something like this, I just hope not this lol

This is from a test bed Fallout 4 I use, so the example is a little extreme on purpose

I would also like to make you aware that ENB (with the recommended stuttering and memory patch boost) can be an issue as well as a fix. I have tried various techniques from ini changes to mods etc and what may work for one may not work for someone else.

When using Resaver, please do one more save after going to an interior plot like Vault 111 or Homeplate, waiting 10 minutes and saving. then take note of both saves.

Hmm, compare this one, from the version that I use to play Fallout

notice that this one has 1 more plugin and a larger read size too, yet only 7 active scripts and no Unattached Instances :)

Hi, I have a similar issue with perhapse relevant causes.
This is from a test bed Fallout 4 I use, so the example is a little extreme on purpose
When you say "little extreme", is that because it has 169 unattached instances? Because I have 187 and that value makes me sad.

Is there a way to tell which scripts are good and which are bad? I also have a HEDT and having to play in peasent 1080p due to RotC settlement lag/crashes displeases the computer.

I can provide papyrus logs and such if needs be, they'll probably be similar to Jules if he has papyrus enabled. I think this 187 baller is the issue for me tho xaxa.

For one.. you've passed the 45Mb save mark. Which means you have a shite ton of stuff in the settlements. Or... something went totally fubar. LOL
If I remember, with all the RotC City Plans built it pushed the save just over 42mb. And that was NOT playing the game like normal.
Anyway.. You're getting Stack dumps which means the game can't process the all the scripts and starts dumping them for later processing..or not. Which is really bad.

I'd clean the unattached instances (ReSaver auto backs up the file) then load the new save.
Dismiss your companion/s if you have one/any. Go to an indoor cell.. Home Plate will work, open the Pip-Boy to the "Radio" tab and let the game run for 10..20 minutes.
Save and check again in ReSaver.
You "should" have 0 Suspended Stacks and a lot less unattached instances.

For one..
Wow thank you that seems to have worked, I can now enter two out of three "no go zones" on my map! Hasn't crashed in any RotC sets either! Fallrims fo4 nexus page has a big statement about not using the clean tool but everything seems to be in order so far.

There's no more unatached instances, but there's still one suspended stack called "PWRScriptTowerStairs.OnDistanceGreaterThan". It's for Passive Water Resources v1 which is quite a depthy mod, and I know that PWR v2 had/has save bloating issues. As for save size, I have a medical condition which requires me to cram exeptional amounts of clutter and themed decorative items into a room. There's a farm which is approaching 6x the build limit so that may be the cause there. DOn't knOw wHY it's LAggin Hurhduh

Anyway; Thank you (both) so much!

To give you na example of a good save (well lets say it works well lol)

this one is my my save from my current play through. I always say before running Resaver, copy your last save to somewhere else first and run Resaver off of that. Remember that you have F4SE, as I do, so you should copy both the .fos and .f4se saves. My game has 151 mods
CM1.JPG
but as you can see, 7 active scripts, no unattached, no suspended and about 3/4 of all the settlements in Fallout (none currently in any DLC) built. This save has not been cleaned or altered in anyway. Even though the save is on an SSD drive, since a recent update, I seem to be suffering a read/wirte delay, but to be honest, i just haven't been bothered to find out why, its nice and clean, but still for various reasons, I get fast travel crashes etc, sometimes its just Fallout 4

Hey guys thanks for the help! I'll give that link a look over and try the suggestions there @GA_Darkerside also try waiting a bit in vault 111 first and see how that goes, thanks @woodfuzzy

now that I recall I remember having similar problems with Fallout 3 trying to play it on windows 7 a few years ago where my save file eventually just got too corrupted, just playing the game normally with only a couple small mods, becuase of the dumb way the engine works.... anyways I hope for Fallout 76 the programers at battlecry studios really retool the engine bc I dont think programming is homeoffice bethesda's strong suit sometimes

Btw when I ran resaver I only had 3 unattached instances and 1 active script (from a save waiting in vault 111

Also, I installed LOOT in the process and had it reorganize my mods. I will update with progress if wanted after testing how things go

I got immediate crashing from walking into sanctuary, a ROTC settlement, so I tried again, waiting longer in 111

here is what resaver says: fallout save.PNG

Try toggling the AI off and see if you can walk into Sanctuary.... looking at the ground and stop for a few seconds every time it stutters.
Console command: tai

i just tried going to the before cleaning file and just tried to walk slowly into sanctuary and that seemed to keep from crashing.... honestly I think my problem might just be solved when we finally get that optimization patch. I just think its too much for my system to load all at once and it just nopes out

but also that was just for a minute, i tried fast traveling directly to starlight drive in, one of my other ROTC settlements and it crashed after a few moments, leading me to this conclusion

also i realized i never cleaned the dirty edits on the bethesda files, i remember this being issue in skyrim, i might as well do that now even if it doesnt solve this problem

I just deleted the post that was original here because, well. it one of the good/bad things about me. Good as in, I want to reply to anyone as fast as possible, bad in, I often end up rushing my reply.

When we talk about Fast Travel crashes/script errors and alike, we need to go back to the days of the Vanilla Fallout 4 game, Fast Travel crashes where just as common back then. Fallout 4 is a complex game, unlike what I call Path Games where quest 1 leads you to quest 2, Fallout 4, well you can go and do what the hell you want in what order you want, so couple that with an Engine that is based on the, I believe if memory serves me right, Gamebryo Engine, in my opinion Fallout 4 runs on an Old Guy injected with steriods for far to long engine, chem addiction anyone?

Now I will not claim to be a programmer, not by a long shot, those days for me are long gone as I never kept up with things and I am far to old and slow, to learn new things or to catch up (oh and far to stupid, I missed that), but really, if you manage to make it through without something going majorly wrong, then you are but a god :)

I did a couple of rounds with Fallout 4 completely Vanilla and I still remember the days of pain when I realised my save was corrupt and I had to restart, but then I kind of lied as Fallout 4 has never been one of those games, if I am honest, that has ever bothered me when forced to start a fresh.

I am sure that there are multiple instances of just a single script in fallout that although in essences handles the same thing, loads for different reasons, as well as I am sure that just doing something at the wrong moment for the right reasons sends Fallout into a fit that punishes you for no good reason.

I had this one instance a while back, Crashed while fast travelling into Sanctuary, Crashed walking for close or far. It then seem to spread like a virus, next stop the Green Jewel - Crash, then I just can't remember where I went from there to where. I had saved my game in the middle of nowhere, so loading back in wasn't an issue and I couldn't be bothered to fix it as I had my sights set on the Silver Shadow Costume, so off I walked to go investigate, not a care in the world, if i had to restart the game then oh well. Completed, saved the game and went to bed. Next day, loaded up, had a wander around, investigated, then for some reason, fogetting all about my issues (Told you old age) I fast travelled to Sanctuary, Had a wander around, I don't know, maybe a minute or so, and then just thought WTF. Fast travelled to diamond City, WTF and to a few other places WTF, Fast travel issues solved.

Sometimes to fix a problem, you just need to sleep on it and do nothing :) but joking aside, I cannot give any real answer as to why or what or when or how, it just did.

I did find the solution, ok, it found me, the solution was, I can't be bothered, so I went off to do a quest and some exploring. Forgetting, like I often do I went back to sanctuary, wandered around and suddenly thought WTF. I can think of a number of reasons, but I have no proof.

i am beginning to wonder if on occasions, Fallout 4 just messes with us lol
So what's your theory?
I've only had one FT issue, besides the being locked out bug. It was caused by a corrupt pair of boots worn by Nurse Jane. (ie: a bad nif file) Stepped in one to many brahman patties is my guess.

I honestly have no idea, I walked past Library from the open ground, the one around the corner from Diamond City on my way to the Comic shop (Silver Shadow) and I just thought that I best go and collect some Savage Beacons back from the logistic station, I had used all but 1 of mine up, so I picked Sanctuary. I guess I wasn't surprised when it crashed, more when I tried to walk in and. The stupid thing was, I never walked back to Diamond C, even though I tried F.T to it. This is one of those things that I am just not sure.

I was loading the same save over each time and never tried an interior plot +save and then try again on the fresh save, so I keep heading back to active scripts and two incidents, a pop up window appeared at the same point I entered my pipboy, which caused a weird lag and two very odd crows, just floating but because at that point I exited the game and it made a save, I was using that one each time, if that makes sense.

Because I honestly didn't care and still had 1 savage beacon, I just went off on my merry way. I just wonder if I had a weird script conflict, the fact that I continue on, loading into a couple of interior plots after and saved, that maybe said scripts had unloaded or just maybe it is something I will never be able to figure out with my limited knowledge, however, Fast travel is not an issue now

Watch this space, going to try lol

well i bounced around a bit and where sanctuary loads a little slow, unlike the others, no issues, so i dont know lol
