So I was having crashing/freezing problems whenever I vised npc led settlements, specifically starlight drive in with the RotC expansion enabled. I tried most of the suggestions listed at the pinned crashes thread, but I also have a pretty high end system 16gb of ram, AMD FX-8350 (8 core, 4.34ghz) processor, and a R9 390 (8gb vram) graphics card so I think having too many items in a settlement plot shouldnt be as much of an issue as when I played vanilla fallout with a script that allowed me to ignore settlement limits I would get lower fps but would never crash.
I have had sim settlements installed since vanilla and have played off and on as it evolved so I thought it might just be because of all the installing and unintstalling new versions the save file has got corrupted, which I suspect to be the case, but anyways thought I would voice my problem here anyway.
Can send a save file when ready.
