Winter skins for plots

I would like to see winter and possibly other seasons as different plot skin options. It would be really cool to do a winter playthrough and have all my plots be winterized.

While this would be an amazing feature the lack of seasonal weather in the base game makes this request highly improbable due to the lack of base game assets.
Considering the mods that are available that do winterize the game I would recommend either contacting one of those creators about creating a patch to support SS2 or create one yourself as it is impossible for the SS2 creators to take into account any other mod when creating their own content.
Hope this information helps.

The closer you will have is the holiday system and that won't add snow (an item that is NOWHERE IN THE GAME ANYWAY).

I had an idea similar to that and mentionned it during SS1 (not knowing SS2 was also in development at the time) and my understanding is that we got as close as we can to have plots changed based on date.

And even that is quite a lot. To expect that not only the game would check the date constantly but also that every plot would need multiple skins for nultiple seasons... yeah... that would most likely make a script heavy game even more susceptible to scriptlags and crashes.

And that's on top of everything Freddrick said above. Sorry we can't have better news for you.

Forgive my ignorance and I'm not trying to argue but to learn. I don't understand why it would be difficult for a skin to have a snow texture added to it. Wouldn't you just have to add snow on top of the existing textures? Can Sim settlements not use custom textures? I was thinking more along the lines of when your using a winter overhaul you could use the winter skins so it matches. No scripts to change it automatically. Im not sure exactly how the skin system works but it seemed more logical to ask for winter skins. Would the winter overhaul creators, assuming they were willing be able to create custom patched skins for the plots, or what would they have to do in order to make that work?

It isnt that its HARD, it is that there is no base game asset to copy, which means adding your own - now keep in mind that a mod uploaded to bethesda.net cannot be larger than 1Gb, and SS2 is already at like .996Gb...

Additionally, if it was done using the assets from another "winterize" mod, that would make that mod be a requirement to use SS2... and what about everyone else that doesnt want a winter skin on their whole game.

It could absolutely be done, dont get me wrong, but seems best suited for being what we call an "Addon Pack", not part of the core mod. In which case, maybe you could be the one to make it?

You ask if it's hard to add snow on the buildings, I'm asking you what snow? There is no snow in the game. Anyone who wants to add snow needs to find a way to either make, buy or find a free snow asset and add it and then make plots that include the snow. And that is true for anything that isn't in the game from Bethesda.

Also, to add to yaugie's answer, I am working on an add-on and this is one thing I would never bother with personally. It would basically be doing skins for all my plots for basically you and maybe three more people? And it would add size to my add-on for something most people will actively want to avoid. As an Xbox player, I'm sure you understand why I'd rather not bloat my modsize.

If you have access to a computer and Fallout 4 then you could do a skin addon yourself. The system was made in a way that you can make skins for anyone else's plots. The tutorial shows very well how to do it, it's pretty easy overall. But this project would only be done by either you or someone else who specifically plays both SS2 and a winterized mod.

Adding snow to existing assets is beyond most modder's skillset. (it's beyond mine) It requires Adobe 3DSMax 2013 for which the license is infinitely close to unobtainium not to mention the knowledge on how to use it. Even if this work could be performed using Outfit Studio, it is still far from easy. It would require copying and modifying many hundreds of assets.

Its not that it can't be done. Its that its difficult, time consuming and I know I would not waste my time making a mod I'd never use.
