The Official “Ask the lead writer of SS2 anything” Thread!

@Sirick
Ah, I see.
Just want to say, I plan to wait for Chapter 3 if it's gonna intertwine within the vanilla main quests, as honestly I'm more interested to experience your story than the vanilla's lol

Well, it's nothing to do with "Little Lupe", that's for sure!

Lupe's age is one of those that's a question mark. As it's been pointed out, for character models you have full adult or 10 year old child. Nothing in-between! So with Lupe it was always "Do I make her older? Do I make her younger? Shrug!"
Realizing Lupe isn't a threat for Jake's affections. 1651742597001.png

In the wasteland, which is effectively a regression to pre-industrial society, there would be no use for high school or higher education except in the Institute, so people would take adult roles as soon as they were physically able (I've seen vanilla child NPCs use the "smoking" animation). People who want to work technical jobs would take an apprenticeship as soon as they had learned to read and write.

But mostly I assumed Lupe to be a very young age because she has huge eyes and a small chin. On my 3-year-old that's normal and beautiful, but on her almost-adult body it makes me think of "The Shadow Over Innsmouth." Come to think of it, that story does take place a short distance north of Boston...is Dagon going to appear in Chapter 3? :grin

I mean, we've already got Dunwich and Kingsport which are locations from Lovecraft (you can't tell me that the whole Cabot House subplot isn't "inspired by" that stuff too), and Salem's right fkn there... let's get some spook up in this.

Just curious about something. When you ask Old Paul about his age, he talks about someone in power armor with a sword stomping through the Commonwealth 10 years ago. Is this referring to something in the base game or something in a previous game? He says you can find things he left behind throughout the Commonwealth but I'm not sure what he's referring to.

Considering there's a 10-year in universe jump from Fallout 3 to 4 (and a Shishkebab build was one of the best in FO3 - although I believe Deathclaw Gauntlet + VATS works out better on a technicality), I'd be willing to bet that's what that's referring to.

Pretty sure it's the guy you can read about on The Ron's terminal. Can't remember the name but I think the Gunners were looking for him. I hope it's foreshadowing and we'll get to meet this character in chapter 3. I think the things he left behind are most of the suits of power armor you can find in the open world. It could be a good way of explaining why no one seems to have taken them after 200 years.

Thanks for the reminder that I was going to go back and read all of THE RON's terminal entries. From memory there was quite a few "hints" in there.

General Ilene pretty much answered for me! Thank you kindly!

You may meet this character in Chapter 3 or beyond.

I'm looking forward to it! Power armor, like many weapons*, equalizes any age-related penalties that might have happened after 10 years. Captain Algernon can sure throw a punch when wearing it.

@Oscar, sometimes it's better not to know and just let your imagination fill the gaps (SWITD?). Me, I like Jake as a friend. Curie on the other hand: https://steamuserimages-a.akamaihd....icy=Letterbox&imcolor=#000000&letterbox=false

* Is power armor a weapon, or a weapons platform? I guess it's a weapon if you have the Pain Train perk. I only use power armor for one quest, because lightly armored means light on your feet.

I did a little interview for Bethesda recently, and it was fun! (interview)

And I figured it might be nice to answer some questions directly from the SS2 community! That’s you guys.

So! If you’ve any questions about the SS2 story, lore, characters, development (non-technical) or whatever, please feel free to ask! I’ll do my best to answer.

A few rules:
  1. Obviously I won’t be answering anything that’s a spoiler for Chapter 3. So try to avoid any such questions as they’ll go unanswered. (You can still ask, I just won’t respond to them)
  2. I can only answer questions related to the main quest. Any settlers that join outside the main quest, I can’t answer anything about as I didn’t write those.
  3. Be nice! :D
How will you guys be handling an Xbox port of Chapter 3, if any? Ch1 and 2 are almost 900 gigs separately, and it’s safe to say an Xbox wouldn’t be able to download another 800 gig mod.

@Sirick ok so im going to bite the bullet and just ask what most of us are dying to knw does Jake have rock hard 6-8 pack abs?
Jake's got himself a 4-pack. He's in shape, but not ripped. You gotta keep some meat on the bones when you're wandering the wastes!
Wait, what!? There's MOAR?
If I don't get everything I want into Chapter 3, there's a fair chance we'll be patching in future content. No promises! But we'll do what we can.

We've got people diligently working away to strip anything "unnecessary" out of Chapter's 1&2 to get the file sizes down. Our goal is to have Chapters 1, 2 & 3 all playable on Xbox!

Neat. I imagine there was a big sigh of relief at the news of Starfield being delayed! Seems like a win-win for me - better Starfield and a longer lifespan for FO4 modding.

“I'm late for the session, but here it goes. Feel free to answer or not. Is there any character from South America who mysteriously managed to emigrate to America after the Great War, since we have the Brotherhood Airship as proof that it is possible to recover or build new means of transport? Preferably of Brazilian origin?”
