Question Taking your first Vassal

I have a new game started playing as the Minutemen Liberators, and I can't figure out how to raise an army large enough to take my first vassal. You need a minimum of 5 to launch an assault right? I have 4 and two of them are workers. It won't let me recruit any more as my income is too low? How do I increase my income with such a low number of troops?

Edit: Had to turn off Soldier needs as I was never going to get any new recruits.

Also how do you liberate a vassal? When I assault Sanctuary everyone attacks me. Codsworth etc join the enemy team.

My suggestion would be to turn all your soldiers to warriors and go attack abbernathy. Once they are a vassal they will provide resources that will help you get off the ground

There is a sething in the Mod Configuration Menu that allows you to turn off the resource requirement for recruiting new recruits. If you're well and truly stuck, turn that off until get a few vassals. You can always turn it back on later.

You need commercial plots to pay your troops.
