Story gist without spoilers?

Hey, so I haven’t tried the mod yet because I was considering waiting for the conqueror 2 release.

Basically, I want to play a bad or at the very least morally gray character. I’m just wondering, without too many spoilers, is the story a typical sort of rebuild the commonwealth/minuteman type quest line or is there wiggle room for this type of character?

Or should I just wait for conqueror?

Admittedly I'm not super far in, and at the moment it seems to me like it might feel a bit incongruous if you're playing your character as morally grey or darker. You may be best off sticking with Conqueror if you're set on playing the bad guy right now, then starting a new character when the new version eventually releases.

It has a general vibe of "we don't have to all be isolated and facing things alone " tone, with an emphasis on the commonwealth becoming more civilized (i.e. less raider influence).

An idea for an evil plot line. An enemy of the shroud shouts out "With the power of ASAMs I shall rule the world!"

i started an institute start/focused game via another life and the main quest seems to fit pretty well!

The quest story is more about the development of the ASAM sensors. It has more of a "good guy vibe" because of the main NPC Jake.

Honestly, you should play it once through simply to learn all the new changes and experience the story. The story is really well written and voiced like Conqueror was.

I still think Jake has an ulterior motive.

On my first playthrough for the first few quests, I thought it was an big ASAM commercial! ;) It's really good. I look forward to finishing the part 1 main quest.

To put it as spoiler-free as I can, the storyline requires Jake to progress (At least for Part 1) and Jake gives off very "I want to help people survive and stand strong against a group in the wasteland" vibes, but also has a few moments that (if you really want to look into them starting from mistrust) can make you think "Uh-huh, so either I'm looking into this too much or something else is going on here".
For Part 1 playing as a raider is likely going to be weird.
Part 2 seems like it may be more open to that style of play, but I can't be certain. It's pretty open.

And there are unique settlers that may turn up at your settlement and a few will ask you to kill raiders as part of their mini-quests (Rescue this, recover that in raider territory), and one whos introduction line is along the lines of "Have any raiders you want me to kill?"

That's actually interesting to hear; I usually play a vanilla start so starting out as a raider kind of feels awkward for my characters to start out bad, but rather sort of progress in that direction over time. So what you're saying is, perhaps there could be wiggle room from that sort of perspective? (starting out with good intentions, slowly becoming more evil with a lust for power?) At least, from what you know from the story I mean. It could go anywhere from here lol

Generic evil villain time? "Muhahahahaha, With these ASAMs I shall RULE THE WORLD!!!!" "Offing that two bit ASAM hawker was the smartest thing I ever did. Bwahahahaha....."

Something like that?
