After that piece Piper did in the Diamond City paper, she made me promise to follow up and explain how this whole College thing came to be. So here goes. If you read that original story, you’ll know my name is Eva, I was a Vault Dweller, frozen for a long time, etc etc. Nowadays, though, everyone just calls me Teacher.

Before the war, I had just received my shiny fresh degree from Emerson College. I was going to be a professor. Adam and I agreed though, to get our family started first, and so Shaun came into our lives. Our brightest light. And now, here, I realized that was one thing the Commonwealth still sorely needed was someone to teach people how to survive. So that has become my mission. Find Shaun, and help people learn how to survive out here.

Once I found the ruins of Starlight, I knew I had found the right place. Large, open space, had some basic defenses already setup, small water supply and plenty of stuff laying around to scrap to start to build. And so the Starlight College of Survival was born. We went through several growth phases, each time adding more folks who could teach and help out. Here’s how it went…

Phase 0 - Just starting out, Sturges and I and a couple other settlers who were hanging around the place when we got there. Soup kitchen, some scrap gathering, and we’re off and running. We spruced the place up a bit with some more foliage and a few trees. Every college needs some green space.

Phase 1 - Curie was a huge help, becoming our medic and chemistry teacher.

Also found Ada, who immediately took over logistics and trading. Stodge and his crew came on board, and helped out with all that initial buildout, including our first real farming, big power tower, and setup the entry guardpost. We built the beginnings of our dormitory, including plumbing it up for bathrooms and a laundry setup.

And another larger house for several of Stodge’s folks to live in as well over by the dorm. We even laid the foundation for the library. Piper promised to help me see if we could find anything in the Boston Library that would be useful. She also put up the sign for the library as well, adding her usual personal touch to the lettering. Sturges even greebled up a cool chandelier to hang from the ceiling in there as well!

Phase 2 - We took on several more students, so we had to expand the dorm, adding an upper section with more beds. Sheffield joined us, and now runs the Cola bar. I swear he knows everything there is to know about Nuka Cola. We may even hit up Nuka World at some point to get him more recipes.

Finished off the library with more books and some comfortable seating. We also met and recruited the Powells to come help with our farming, and Julia now teaches all our farming classes. She’s even set up a more advanced farm across from the dorm.

Our students started apprenticeships with various cooks, and now run a small restaurant with what they’ve learned. Trudy, Mrs.Summerset, Polly, Takahashi, Crisp and others have helped us out with recipes.

Phase 3 - We rounded out our skills. MacReady now teaches marksmanship, with a nice target range up on top of the screen.

Once she was cleaned up, Cait became our melee combat teacher, and we set up the boxing ring for her. Turns out she can sling a mean cocktail too. We set up a comm station for Jake, extending his network. He teaches our electronics course too, when he can be convinced to sit still long enough. Strong stops by now and again to teach a British lit course out of the Library. Ann Hargraves joined us from over at the WRVR broadcast station, and after spending some time with Lucas Miller, she now teaches an armor crafting class out of the maker space, which is pretty full of workbenches at this point. Moe Cronin stops by to teach us all about smithing and especially bats. Arturo handles weapons and weapon mods courses. Along the way, we’ve lost a few folks, so we set up a small mausoleum to honor the folks who gave their lives so we might carry on.

Perhaps you’ll help us grow some more, and teach your own skills to our students in the future!

Hope you enjoy the plan. I'll be posting it to Nexus once I get free from current work obligations.

Cheers,

It's inspiring to see how you've transformed from a Vault Dweller to a beacon of knowledge in the Commonwealth.
