SS2 is a better story that the base game

I have the feeling he will be in later installments, keep in mind this is only the first batch of content.
 
Sounds good to me - and yeah, I've been WAAAY more engaged with the plotline of SS2 than with the vanilla game... and I've never played FO4 before XD
This is literally my first time playing the game and I just don't wanna progress to Diamond City because it's not as compelling

sigh I probably should've gone for a vanilla run first, but like... what point is there in playing a vanilla Bethesda game? It's not like this is New Vegas or anything.
 
Good thing is that SS2's own plotline is largely independant from the base game's - only thing completing any of the 'core' storyline really does is unlock a few optional things like a few Unique Settlers, and maybe individual plot designs in some Addon Packs (eg I know Wasteland Venturers addon pack has a house design that you unlock when The Prydwen arrives).
 
There's the "Cheats" in the holotape to give you everything without having to meet the 'unlock requirements', but practically everything that is covered by that system is TECHNICALLY "optional" content anyway. (Only thing that I'd say isn't really "optional" content that that system covers is Caravan Plots, but the requirement for those is merely owning two settlements anyway)
 
So in anticipation of Chapter 2, I'm playing through 'Chapter 1' again right now, and I just wanted to bump this thread to give more praise to the writing/implementation team.
One thing in particular keeps catching in my mind: the fact that the team even remembered to stick to the way the base game never tells you what Nick Valentine is until you've met him, everyone only talks about him in generic/vague terms that don't give away that he's a "halfway between g2 and g3" synth with half his rubber fake skin missing, and even SS2's Jake stuck to that. That level of attention to little details really helps keep the mod's "immersion" levels just right.

Side note: things work even more smoothly now with the few tweaks that've been made to the early parts of Chapter 1; anyone that hasn't really should make a new game and go back through to at least the end of quest "Well Well Well" once v1.1.0 is officially out. You'll know why I said that when you see it.

Agree, amazing writing and voice acting. One thing that stood out to me was attention to player's perks. I even got curious, "what if I didn't have that perk or had something different? Is it just an illusion, or dialogue and options actually change?". Well, it wasn't an illusion. Almost like playing New Vegas again.

Some of those are quite clever, and not even necessarily things you'd expect to come up in dialog, but they make sense in a kind of "someone who's good at that skill would have opinions here" way - like obviously [Nuclear Physicist] would be relevant when talking about a certain plutonium reactor. Heck, even [Idiot Savant] comes up at one point. It's a good way of getting as close as Fo4's systems allow to doing 'skill checks', especially in the New Vegas style where it's not exclusively the Speech skill.

Though to be fair, a lot of "sarcastic" vanilla options should be classed as that.
