There seems to be a problem where building the research wing will eventually remove the design station from the list of upgrades in workshop mode. But it stays on the list of 'replace upgrades', if you then choose to 'replace' the design station, it gets built in the corner of the lab office but everything in the outside wing area disappears, if I then 'replace' the research wing the design station disappears again.
The scanning bay seems to properly remove the welding bench and dissassembly area and the design station as it clips with all of those; but it is possible to 'replace' the design station after building the scanning bay and they both stay. It is also possible to 'replace' the welding bench after the scanning bay and they both stay. 'Replacing' the disassembly bay however will make the scanning bay disappear.
The linkage between the design station and the outside area does not make sense, also, since the design station is a standing desk, if the chair was removed then I don't think it would clip with the scanning bay and would still look good.
