Question Place Everywhere - Useful for Cleaning?

Hey guys! Based on the many recommendations I found here on the forums, I installed Place Everywhere as an alternative to using Scrap Everything, since I'm not a fan of broken Previs/Precombines. Blech.

However ... One of the main reasons I installed it was to clean up the various piles of leaves, trash, debris, etc. that already exist in some Settlements. I've seen many people, here on the SS forums and elsewhere, refer to the "Extra Objects" option as allowing this - i.e. highlighting some of the aforementioned debris items and marking them for scrapping - but I have not been able to use it for this purpose. I simply don't have the option. I can scrap corpses and move many items that are immobile in the vanilla game, but I have no ability to scrap leaves, trash, etc.

Am I missing something? Did I perhaps misunderstand what all the other discussions and articles were saying?

Thanks in advance!

Any items which you can't scrap with the extra item selection turned on are part of a precombine. As such can only be removed by either breaking the precombines ( with all the problems that introduces) or changing things via the construction kit (complicated but someone else may have already done it and released it as a mod).

Haha. I know it was based on the old Weebl animation, but I don't know if Weebl was the one who turned it into the "Vitruvian Badger."

I get what you're saying about the necessity of breaking PCBs to make all that stuff scrappable. I saw several discussions on other sites, though, where people were claiming they used PE to remove trash, leaves, etc. Maybe they had another mod installed and just neglected to mention it ... ?

Welcome to the forum. One minor point on using the tool. Yes you can scrap extra highlighted objects. Just be carefull on what you select. Among other items that look very dumb 'just hanging there' are leftover power wires from tilted or downed poles. Likewise, some leaf or debris piles may not go away without taking a section of asphalt with it. Sometimes you may highlight a trash pile and leave it hanging in space because you actually were highlighting the base.

And in some cases, you may succesfully get rid of a a trash texture, only to have it appear further on down the line. YMMV.

Also the mode to scrap these aren't enable by default. If memory serves you have to press Insert to enable it. But yes, Place Everywhere won't allow you to scrap something that break precombines. Just because others say they can do, doesn't mean it's worth doing.

Thanks for the warm welcome @parrotheada1a and other new "neighbors!" :)

Now that I've had some time to test it out and shuffle my load order around, I basically only use Place Anywhere for its intended purpose. Like @BinaryMisfit said, I just hit the "Insert" key when I need to delete a corpse, or if I want to move the Workshop to a different location.

I've basically come to accept that Bethesda did a very haphazard job deciding what random trash and clutter should be "baked into" its surroundings. It makes for bad visuals in some cases, but I'm not willing to give up 25+ FPS or render Boston unplayable during gameplay just to use Scrap Everything to tidy up Sanctuary's streets. (Admittedly, though, that was on my old hardware. I just replaced a lot of my core stuff - mobo, CPU, RAM, etc. - and my performance skyrocketed, so I may experiment a bit.)
