Map and Recon markers disappeared from HUD/Compass

For a few minutes the other night I noticed the 'Recon markers' were gone, but saving and reloading fixed it. Now suddenly on the compass and hud all the map/location markers and the red markers showing that either an enemy has noticed you or you've tagged them with a recon scope, have vanished from the hud and the compass.

Just to be inconsistent, location markers are fine on the pipboy map, quest markers seem to be okay on the compass, and they work for just a few seconds when I load the game from either desktop or the game screen, then vanish.

It's not 'unplayable' this way, but it certainly makes it more difficult to navigate and track enemies. Not on survival difficulty, floating markers is good in the settings.

Any ideas appreciated.

I fixed it, I disabled all quest tracks in my quest list, went to settings, disabled the options for quest markers and all of that, saved my game and quit. Started up the game again, put the marker thing back on in the settings, then reselected my quest tracks, and they all showed up again.
