Question Loss of vassal places flagpole strangely?

I lost control of one of my vassals while out adventuring in the mechanist's lair, and then a brotherhood of steel flag/flagpole appeared on my character. This meant the flagpole was just sitting in the middle of a hallway, I presume forever. Seems like a bug?

If helpful, the flagpole appeared pretty much exactly in the same way as when you claim an outpost for your faction.
