In Your Opinion

First and foremost, I have a low-end Dell PC with an Intel Core i5-4440 CPU / 3.10 GHz. Sometimes it takes a long time to process SS2 codes in the background. That being said, do you believe it is imperative to do the Mechanist Quest? ( I absolutely hate being around that noisy clanging, proper English-speaking Ada, who talks incessantly. She is worst than being around Dogmeat, who constantly barks and gets in your way.) In fact, is it imperative to do all three of the Fallout 4 DLCs? (I never do even long before SS2 came along.) Thanks.

As far as SS2 is concerned, I don't think it's imperative to do anything in the base game or DLC apart from get out of the vault and build a settler recruitment beacon.

The only thing you'll miss out on is some of the named settlers that only show up after you've done certain vanilla/DLC quests but none of them are vital to getting through SS2's quests. (I can't remember off the top of my head if any of the settlers only show up after completing Automatron. Maybe that one guy called Andrew something?).

I had to start a new game this morning because somewhere along the line every time I went to speak to Garvy about completing a couple of quests the game would shut down. Something got corrupted somewhere along the line. I didn't feel like backtracking. I had like 48 hours of actual gameplay already in that game.

It's possible there's something very wrong with that save game if it's crashing from just talking to Preston. You could try Buffout 4 which will produce crash logs to help you diagnose the problem.

It depends on the size of the save game, how long you played already behind each other without restarting the game and loading the savegame. My last game had 52 hours of playtime , was over 70 MB and crashed at random and random events.. kicked out a bunch of mods , now after 3 hours its allready 40 MB .. though looks more stable.

I have noticed something in my latest play through, I get so involved in game play moving from quest to quest I forget to do a save, then when I finally do I get a very long wait while it saves even with auto saves, and I get CTD's but if I do regular saves they only take a few seconds and I can play without any CTD's and play for hours without any problems. other than having to use the moveto player quite a few time's as NPC's don't always go where they should to activate their quest lines.

I know I'm in the minority on it, but Ada is my favourite companion. (I spec her for melee plus Tesla Coils)
I haven't done Nuka World more than I think 3 times total since it came out, but Fah Hahbah is friggin' amazing - stomping around in that Fog in Power Armor, at night, with Darker Nights enabled, is my safe space.

For what it's worth, none of the DLC questlines are relevant to SS2 in any way; Chapter 2 only even hard-requires Automatron because of one of the rooms you can build in the HQ.

Wait is that it? I was sure it had to do with some technical HQ stuff. If its just the room, can it just not show up anywhere if one is running vanilla only? Like Jampads CCC content?
(I've only got to building said room just now, never did it in my 3 or 4+ full playthroughs of SS2..)

Yeah, as far as I know, that's the only reason Automatron is required.

Now doing "soft requirements" is definitely possible (see addon pack Jampads 2) but I guess it was decided that "who DOESN'T have all the official DLC at this point?"

I gave Ada classic protectron legs for the last quest and immediately regretted it. It took her forever to get to the first lock. Handy thrusters are the way to go!

Good point. Also can you change Ada's voice or is that just with other robots? If you can, OP, I think all your problems are solved.
Nah, she's fixed to that one voice - same for Jezebel, actually. Her dialog does get kind of obnoxious, to be fair, but same goes for the other companions - that's why I went Lone Wanderer for so long myself. (plus that perk is BROKEN good - 30% damage reduction and +25% damage dealt? heck yes)
