Question How to get the "taking independance" and "old guns" quests

so, I have 3 questions that have to do with starting a new liberator game with a minutemen faction pack.

1. How do you get "taking independence" to trigger by doing enough minutemen radiant quests while not fucking up conqoerer/still allowing us to liberate all the settlements that are allowed to use city plans at the start?

2. after taking independence, and then old guns, can and how can you convert the castle into an outpost?

3. how do you change which outpost is an HQ, specifically to set it to the castle? kingathh said there is a way to do that.

I'll be doing all that this week with my own game running a MM faction pack.

So, when I know I will come back and say how it went.

Still, #2 and #3 should be able to be done at the war planner's desk as normal.

cool, thanks for the quick response, would ya mind also testing the "set stage (quest id and stage id here)" command on taking independance and see if that works? cuz if it doesnt break anything im just gonna use that

I am playing as a Minutemen Liberator and have taken the Castle. Here is my experience making the Castle an Outpost:

(1) After performing the Minutemen settlement quest for Ten Pines; setting up Red Rocket as an Outpost; and vassal assaulting Abernathy, Sanctuary and Starlight, I should have had 5 settlements. Used the console command "show MinutemenOwnedSettlements" and the number of settlements was 0. Thanks to @Bored Peon on Steam, I could use the console command "SetStage <QuestID> <Quest stage number>" or "setstage 3a457 20" to initiate the Castle quest.

(2) The Castle (No Prebuilt, No Preconquered, Outpost)
  • started the quest using console command - setstage 3a457 20
  • ISSUE 1 - took 3 tries to successfully assault, because the first 2 times, Preston was standing in the wall breach where the Queen comes thru and was incapacitated - due to Conqueror my only option was execute Preston versus use stimpack to heal. The third time, I waited at the corner of the Castle and when the Queen came out of the lagoon, used a Fat Man
  • ISSUE 2 - because Preston's home settlement is Sanctuary a vassal, he can not be assigned to the Castle which is an Outpost. For those who tire of his dialogue this may be ideal.
  • ISSUE 3 - after taking the Castle, the game has vanilla type Minutemen "showing up" periodically. With Conqueror, they are listed as civilians which effects the morale calculation - there is always the console commands of "disable" and "markfordelete"
Hopefully this is of some help.

huh, everything went fine for me no console cmds were needed.
Preston was fine.
I did everything vanilla first.
In the basement after the fight with Sarg, I added my castle mod. "While still in the basement."

Then I made the war desk.
Converted to an outpost.

Made it my main Base.
Made Ronnie the Commander.

I do have all the types of settlements one can have?
Vassel
Outpost
Vanilla
Prebuilt and Faction occupied. in my game all other factions are "hostile"

So, in my game, I don't know what all gets counted to trigger Preston, but he triggered after I turned in an early quest for starlight to retake the castle. Oddly, the game gave me that one, not Preston or a Settler. Maybe the faction pack, it just kicked in while I was running around?
The faction pack was installed at the start of the game.

All things conqueror were working at the Castle, but the map marker remained as a cannon vs the typical outpost symbol.

Then making it an outpost at the war planners desk it asks you If:

If you want to make it an outpost and If you want to make it your HQ.

At least that's what happened for me...
