How do guard creators work?

Will putting one in a guard post work or do I need to add a "standing guard" animation there as well. Or are they to be placed as a general spawn area and what I'm doing is too specific a use for them?

There are two circumstances these are used.

1. If the player has assigned a leader with one of the faction ally traits, such as Paladin Danse. Anytime you arrive at that settlement, guards from that faction will be found there.

2. In the next Conqueror patch, they will be used during assaults to increase the number of guards spawned to defend against the attack.

They will not use vanilla work objects, but will use the nearest animation marker. If you wanted to have the setup in your image, you would use the static version of the guard post instead of the assignable version, then use the blue man animation marker of a person standing guard to ensure your spawned guard stands in position.

You can use the console command:

cqf kgsim_recruitmentmanager TestGuards true

Which will place guards at the markers (as well as bring in a Vertibird to hover around the settlement). Using the same command with false instead of true will clear out the guards.
