[HELP] How do one hunt for a mod that causing a glitch in Fallout 4?

Hi everyone,

At least a user on Reddit and me have this annoying glitch in Fallout 4 where the game will "freeze" if it displaying a loading screen (like one shown when we fast travel or change location) or do a save process, whether it quick save, auto save, or manual save. The game process itself does not considered not responding by Windows.

The first time I encounter the glitch was when doing Nuclear Option using the minutemen, where we enter the institute using the sewer system. The glitch will happened as soon as I reach the stair where a single mole rat was waiting.
Another place that triggers it is a location inside Mass Pike Tunnel East/West where we find the skeletons of a detective police vs. a military personnel.
A Reddit user experience the glitch in the mechanist lair.
The other indicator without needing to wait a loading screen or save process is all NPCs (including companion) seem to fail pathing. They cannot move from their spot.

Mod that both this Reddit user and me have in common is SS2, but I don't think that was the cause since, AFAIK, no one reporting this kind of glitch.
So back to the title, how do I hunt the particular mod that causing this annoying glitch?

disable them all load up the game add them back 1 at a time.

Install Buffout and if your lucky you can get a crash log that may help. But Karvok is right. That works.
If you have steam conform the files are OK in Fallout.
Your going to need to try and load a past save - taking mods away is not supported and very strongly worded against. So we want to identify the villian, reenable the rest, and see if the past save accepts it.

That's the kink, though. The game technically does not crash, so buffout4 does not log anything. It just kind of freeze. If it freeze during save process, it's like an endless saving process. If it freeze during a load screen, it looked normal. I can still interact with the load screen (toggle VATS highlight, rotate, moving the object, etc.)

Won't this crash the game if I doing it to a big/script heavy mod?
Some kind-of major mod I have are PRP, SS2, luxor summer, NACX, Fen's Sheriff Department, FOLIP, ECO, LEO.

If there's molerats... that could be the bug where 'critters' that tunnel-teleport will cause a freeze during a save(like if auto-save is enabled when fasttraveling as loading a new cell is considered that). I had this happen with "Hole in the Wall" and needed a mod to disable that ability in the race record for molerats and rad scorpions.

Further testing result: from the exact same save that experienced this glitch, I visit one of the place that could trigger it. the Mass Pike Tunnel East/West. Only now the glitch did not happen.

The only difference was during the previous save, I just visited multiple settlements with city plan by "fast travelling", or coc-ing to be exact. Could this freeze be a case of script lag?

I don't believe a freeze is 'script lag' per se as that sounds like a completely different issue- even at 1 fps it's not completely frozen. The mass pike tunnel, at least on my end, is loaded with ghouls... but no molerats or rad scorps. I have had, on occassion a 'freeze' which looks like a freeze-ctd... but that will clear up after x number of seconds(sometimes longer than I would expect), though I think it mainly happens in settlements like Sanctuary and when there's possible dll contention or trash collection in progress where something is 'stuck' waiting on something else(like a script or script call).

I wonder if(or when) the problem occurs, if you spawn a bunch of molerats with the console and let them burrow underground and pop back up... then try and save the game to see if locks up. I encountered this during Hole In The Wall when I was going for Curie and the cure and from what I've read it appears to be a random engine bug with 'teleporting' creatures.

Also, if your using XXL Nukes or the newest 'extreme' version... once a nuke explodes(or a car) save times can be upto 15 minutes... while waiting!

Okay, Mystical Panda, I think you are on point there. I just experienced the glitch again, and it was when I encounter mole rat(s). This time inside GNN HQ.

There's a mod you can install(on the Nexus) which changes the race record of molerats and rad scrorps to no allow tunneling(iirc). It's strage as I've never had that happen until recently and am not really sure which 'script' or 'function' inside the 'script' would be causing the issue.
