Vanilla Bug - Unsolved Freeze on interiors, upon mole rat detection.

Actually, this occurs on "interior" areas when you're detected by any burrowing creature (Molerats, blood worms or rad scorpions). This bug has been reported on other forums where testers have used only Sim Settlements and the bug is alleviated upon uninstalling. I have duplicated the bug myself in the molerat cave (under Red Rocket), Concord tunnels, and Mad Mulligan's Mine.

Temporary solution: Until such time that your Bughounds can resolve this issue, players can open the console and type the term: tdetect
This will toggle enemy detection off, allowing the player to eliminate enemies without triggering the bug.

Warning: the console command must be entered again, toggling detection back on, or NPC's won't acknowledge your presence when attempting dialogue.
 
Can confirm bug and current temp workaround of using 'tdetect' in interior cells. I just spent FOUR DAYS testing each of my over 300 mods to find out which is it. It's Sim Settlements.

I cannot replicate this, nor can I fathom how SS would be causing it.

Do either of you use any addon packs? As disabling SS would incidentally disable all of those as well. I don't keep them installed when I'm testing, so if one of those is the culprit, it would explain why I can't replicate this.
 
I only researched the bug I was experiencing online, discovered several sites declaring Sim Settlements as the culprit and found the console command workaround. I posted the findings here to make you aware of the bug and to offer the workaround to others who may be experiencing the same issue.

Got it, so you're not actually experiencing this yourself.

@Taligaro - Can you test disabling your addons and head into somewhere you know this issue occurs to see if it still happens?
 
I'm experiencing the bug but I haven't done any hands-on research. I searched the internet for information on my symptoms.

Here's a side note that may assist in squashing this bug: I just liberated Vault 88 and as you know there are Molerats and Rad Scorpions there, surprisingly, their detection of you does not trigger a crash in this location ... on this playthrough, anyway.

I have a level 52 unmodded/never modded save. I just started a game with this save and only SS loaded. Fast traveled to the Museum to get the City Manager Holotape. Ran it to initialize SS. Then, I went to Mole Rat Den, tunnels under Concord, Shamrock Taphouse, and Kendall Parking. In each case, I stayed in stealth mode until detected by the molerats. Once detected I engaged using a combination of both VATS attacks and regular attacks. No freezes, or CTDs

Merely having SS installed doesn't seem to be the trigger. What else do I need to do to test for this bug?

The bug seems to be a matter of happenstance, I've only gotten crashes, so far, in the waste disposal cave under Red Rocket, the Concord tunnels, and Mad Mulligan's Mine.
 
My bet would be its not SS directly causing it, but either an addon pack, or some other mod that depends on SS. If the user on the forums you had found the report about SS being the cause had disabled SS, it would have also disabled all mods that depend on it - of which there are quite a few available.

It could also be one of those bizarre quirks due to load order, where just shuffling things around resolves it.

Well, I can't conclusively prove SS is the culprit through personal testing, I just read reports that with SS as the only mod in the load order, the bug toggled on and off coinciding with the activation/ deactivation of SS.
