Force Start Side Quests?

Is there a way to force start any of the side quests? I realize there seems to be a tool for doing so with the main quest, but I've seen nothing for the side quests. The reason I ask is I did the first quest for Caleb in Concord, and then played for a couple in game weeks, and realized his next quest never started. He doesn't talk to me or anything either. I updated the mod to the newest version today (2.2.0) thinking maybe that would fix it but no dice. I've pretty much already accepted the quest chain being dead and just turned in the War is good for business quest, just waiting on that quest to start after activating the radio.

I've tried using commands to start Caleb's second quest, startquest or trying to set the stage to any point of the second quest seems to do nothing. (I know this can break stuff, so I reverted to a save before the commands when they didn't seem to help)

@IrrationalChoice
Thank you for reporting this.
I did some investigation with minimum mods and ran into the same issue.
Caleb is not responsive and the quest objective is not appearing in my quest journal, so I reported it as an issue.

To continue, make a save first to be safe and enter console command: setstage SS2C2_ConcordQuest_TheHunt1_Caleb 5
The quest notification should popup and tell you to talk to Caleb.

Yes, it's the Hunt for Boris, I always count the Introduction as his first quest, sorry.
I have just played the Hunt for Knifepoint, it came up for me.

For Knifepoint, try
make save, stand beside Caleb and console command: setstage SS2C2_ConcordQuest_TheHunt2_Caleb 5

I'm having the same issue. Caleb wont talk to me anymore. I finished his first quest, but never got the next quest. The console command listed didnt do anything.

So hopefully you made a save, before the console command and can return to it?
Then, can you try this console command? getstage SS2C2_ConcordQuest_TheHunt2_Caleb and report back?

I reloaded after.
The result is:
GetStage >> 0.00
So it hasn't started at all for you.
What do you get for getstage SS2C2_ConcordQuest_TheHunt1_Caleb ?

GetStage >> 60.00
Ok, so return to a save before doing any console commands for this quest and one that is after completing the Hunt for Boris.
Try: setstage SS2C2_ConcordQuest_TheHunt2_Caleb 1
If you entered the previously advised command that was specifically for the other user's situation, and don't have a save before that, this setstage command will likely not work.

I really dislike providing console setstage commands. :sad When I do, they are specifically for situations that I'm replying to. Hopefully, this will help you.
If it doesn't, you might want to return to a much earlier save and try playing through again.

hi i am having the same problem with starting up one of the CPD missions "Capturing Police Depository" Jarred does give me the details for the mission and also give me the codes but the mission never actually starts. i go to east boston police station but there are no scavers there and no option pops up to put fuses in the fuse box. (yes i do have the fuses)
can anyone provide me with the console command to start the mission

also when i give the command setstage ss2cs_nd-cowdy_cpd_act2_stashjob

i get the mssg missing parameter stage

pls help

You are getting that message "missing parameter stage" because you entered the console command incorrectly.
You also need to add the stage number. You also need to have the quest id entered properly.
It'd be: setstage SS2C2_NDCowdy_CPD_Act2_StashJob #
# = the stage number.

Sounds like the quest scene didn't start up if you never got the Quest Notification after talking to Jerred.
Here's a link to the Quest Guide: Capturing Police Depository
I recently play tested this quest and didn't have any issues with it. If this is the first time trying this quest in your game, I'd suggest trying to load up a previous save and trying again rather than trying to use console commands.
What release of SS2 Chapter 2 are you using? I suppose it's possible a new bug has snuck in with 2.3.1.

hey... the "missing parameter stage" issue i figured out what i was doing wrong.... my bad!!!!

this is my second playthrough with SS2 the first time was with Version # 2.2.3 and and at that time "the quest worked perfectly" didnt have any issues with the CPD quests. after updating my version to 2.3.1 and starting a new game from scratch i got this issue. I had already tried twice to load a pervious save even before starting off with CPD mission but still had the same issue. with Capturing Police Depository mission. the rest of the CPD missions worked perfectly. but i still never got the Quest Notification.

I also played around with the console commands trying to force start the quest as well as bypassing it but still no luck. it was as if the quest didnt even exists. as it didnt show in both the unfinished quests or the finished quests there was no sign of it.
Also i would like to mention whenever i revisit Jerred he does mention about the quest being unfinished. "something like the scavs havent been taken care off". i tried revisiting east boston police station by fast traveling 2 to 3 times but still no luck.

hmm..strange, i'll make another run through see if I can replicate it in 2.3.1

Update (2023-0120): Replayed Jerred's quest to try to replicate an issue.
I didn't encounter any issues playing it through with 2.3.1 with minimum mod list. May be a mod conflict, ... maybe related to Quest Tagging by a Sorter Mod (where the mod changes quest names), that may be causing the issue. Hard to know.

I'm having the same issue - The Hunt for Knifepoint never starts in 2.3.1a and console commands don't work. Caleb's quests worked fine when I played them in 2.2.2 - 2.2.3.

Just had the issue with Capturing Police Depository on 3.0.3. I had talked to Jerred and gotten the quest and codes - but went and did a bunch of other things.
Thought I'd swing by the East Boston PD on my way to meet Circe during New Connections, and there were no scavvers there. When I went back to talk to Jerred later, he mentioned the scavvers were still there. Went back to the Depository, still no scavvers. ...and when I try to access the terminal it says the codes are invalid.

Went back to a slightly earlier save (before going to the Depository the 2nd time), and did a getstage on the quest - it is showing stage 0. Tried using setstage to force it to start, and it never got beyond stage 0. Eventually tried using completequest, and it completed and gave me XP - but when I went back to the CPD HQ, Jerred still thinks the quest hadn't been completed.

I have no idea how far back it was that I originally got the quest, so it looks like I am starting over with a new game.

You could check the hijack menu in holotape (tools) to see if the location is hijacked by SS2 or not. Can't remember if that was an option for this quest :/
Instead of completequest, I'd suggest setstage and one of the last stages. If you really don't want to start a new game or roll back, that is. Can still cause problems later.

Yeah, before I gave up on it I tried setstage to every possible stage. It would not move past stage 0.

Unfortunately, the bug is apparently repeatable for me.

Started a new game, played as usual, Shandy showed up, did the meet and greet - but this time I went to East Boston immediately after talking to Jerred - and there were no Scavvers, and the codes he gave me don't work. I noticed on my way that the quest hadn't started either. In this game I hadn't been in or near East Boston PD prior.

I did check the hijack menu - nothing in there for East Boston PD, and as far as I know I have no mod that touches that location.

I have a save just as I enter the CPD HQ, and tried talking to Jerred again - chose different dialog options regarding the quest, but although he is happy to talk to me about it and give me the codes, the quest never starts.

Went back to a save before entering South Boston PD, with all but a handful of mods disabled. Dealt with the original group of Hellhounds, back to HQ, still can't get that quest to start.
