Fens Sheriff's Department is here!

[...] so I expect that at the finish of the long story, it was Open Season on the three other factions. I'm not even sad about missing out on all that.
Eh, not quite. Yeah, the FSD does eradicate the Railroad and the Institute - and does both in pretty much the same way, just with a difference in scale. The cut a deal with the BoS to get them to leave the Commonwealth, so the BoS is gone, but without killing them. They largely ignore the Minutemen overall, except if you already got the vanilla MM ending then they do kick them out of DC. [1] So, Open Season on the RR and the Institute, the BoS pisses off, and the MM aren't considered worthy of any effort to deal with.

It's a shame that munkyspunk and Thuggysmurf both have such cynical condescending views on life and humanity, because much of the work in their mods are stellar, and they lined up some solid voice talent to bring the characters to life.

[1] Caveat: I didn't do any vanilla ending in either of my playthroughs, so I didn't experience the FSD expelling any "winning" faction from DC. I just know about it from reading spoilers.

Unfortunately, since I am pretty new to the site, I don't know Ray Bo's Bake a Game Save method, but am guessing it involves not a lot of saves? I keep planning on starting a vanilla game and playing until at least level 60 then adding mods, but it never happens that way. I get too excited about the mods and just start adding them.

I think I may have gone a little crazy with my latest playthrough since this is my first time on PC. I have the I9 12900K, ASUS Z690 gaming board, 16GB ram and an MSI 3080TI. I thought I could just throw everything in and start playing. Didn't really work that well :shok1. I am still learning and expect that to continue for quite some time.
Managing a huge load order can be a lot of fun - if your the sort of person that thinks that is fun :D Im around 500 on my big load order of doom. Look into .esl files and Id suggest using Mod Organizer 2. Im not amazing at answering questions but Ill try if you have them or you can post a question here. Folks are real nice.

[1] Then again I, too, never really understood the "let's wipe your memory, for safety" angle. 1) It "kills" the person they're ostensibly trying to save and just replaces them with another, and 2) Yeah, how are they safer when they don't know the SRB would be looking for them and therefore can't take precautions. But I guess I need to go with Bellisario's Maxim at times, because thinking too hard about almost any fictional story makes it fall apart.
Its explained in the Memory Den quests with your friend H2-22. He has constant nightmares cant handle the sheer chaos of surface life. He has an option to rewrite his memories and get rid of the pain. The only thing he regrets losing is the memories he had since escaping. I would like the option a bunch more if they didnt go out of their way to make it fail. Its not something addressed anywhere else and to me feels like a late game mention that got missed.

As someone that has dealt with a few issues there are some things Id be willing to give up my life to fix. Like antidespressants your old self can be no more. Is it worth it? Time will tell.

That was my experience IRL. I told Monkey I hit a couple of game breaking bugs and his response each time was its working as intended. I plan to do a limited run through then rollback to before the fens spoils stuff. So I can say I did it once. Some things you check out and your glad you did but have no inclination to do it again :)

Thank you so much. I had noticed that folks seem pretty helpful here. Which is great as I see a lot of snarky comments on some other sites.
I am using Vortex as it seems to be a little more "idiot proof" and it was suggested by users to maybe start with that one then move up to MO2.
I now have 2 games going and add new mods to the one game and make sure they are compatible then if they are and I like them I add them to the other game. This is most helpful if the mod breaks something. It also helps when I come across a mod I really don't care for, not a bad mod just some are not my cup of tea. I just played through a few of Thuggysmurf's mods and they weren't bad, I actually had a lot of fun with them despite a few cringe worthy moments.
Are there a few mods you would recommend as should never play without?

I waited to see if a response was coming and didn't want to intrude, but that came in the SS2 forum.

One thing about the Railroad I forgot to mention is that they are kind of an odd bunch. I love that odd bunch, and Deacon was a heck of a companion for quite a few adventures, until I felt the urge for some romance and lured Piper to me with my charms. And charisma.

But why a bunch of Commonwealthers would join together in a community to help Synths, when everyone was scared to death of them for decades, baffled me. What on Earth would make them change their minds about Synths?

Except, what if the founding members weren't Human at all, but were Synths themselves? Or maybe one Synth, DiMa, who has proven to have some charisma of his own? Did he begin the Railroad as a pet project when he discovered that Synths weren't just discarded, but actually began escaping the Institute? And then learned of Fah Habah through the caravaners who seem to be the main news carriers in the Wealth, and set off for there as the one place remote enough in America's Northeast suitable for a Synth haven. Could that have happened? I haven't dug into the lore of the four factions so I have no clue, but something like this must be the foundation of these Synth guardian angels.

There is explicitly little lore ingame about the Railroad's history - it's written into their substory that they keep losing their old archives and stuff every time they lose another HQ and have to abandon it to go to ground for a while then rebuild, which happened not long before the game opens, combined with almost all of them using codenames and their secretive nature, it makes little sense how they can even operate day to day. At best there's some vague hints that Deacon's been a member longer than he lets on, but that's written 'in character' by Desdemona so who knows if it's actually true - not like asking Deacon helps, dude gives you at least three conflicting "backstories" when you talk to him.
This is actually one of the rare cases of Modern Bethesda's writing always having so many gaps in it actually making sense.

It would make quite a bit of sense for the founding members to have been Escaped Synths, though.

Mod ideas for @LeapinL

if you have any suggestions please feel free to add.

I'm at the point of choosing to either go with them for the Diamond City Wins ending or bypassing it. Right now I'm playing through the Diamond City Wins ending but I'll be honest in that the Lily character actually irritates the fuck out of me. Spoilt, entitled brat kid who wasn't given enough slaps, and is basically coddled by everyone in The Fens as a super hero and constantly patted on the back for shit that she didn't do, such as 'leading a charge' on the Atom Cats garage when in fact its our player character who leads it and does the majority of the killing.

In SS2 you are the head honcho but you also don't demean the other characters who also take you long for the ride in places, whereas the FSD straight up tries to keep a boot on your neck throughout the storyline. It is really well crafted, one of the best F4 mods out there but the constant trying to put you in your place and letting Lily run around like a whiny 5 year old who stamps her feet when she can't get her own way is making me reconsider focusing on the bypass ending and just keeping them at arms length aside from when I want to do business with them.

Im left with the idea the author believes in the everyone is evil sentiment. Cause the folks in the bleachers are torturers and murderers just like the Raiders they claim to hate.

Look at this -

WARNING
This is not a sexy time companion
. There is no romance option and they are in Power Armor. Skip this mod if that's what you want.
This companion has their flaws. Anyone looking for perfect behavior should also skip this mod.
This companion has their own opinions and loyalties. Anyone looking for someone to fall in line behind you should skip this mod.
If you are unable to emotionally handle the companion getting credit for completing quests, you should skip this mod.
If you can't handle the companion not telling you how awesome you are, you should skip this mod.
If you are unable to handle the story and universe not rotating around your player character, you should skip this mod.

It's like buddy I play the game to rotate around MY character not your whiny spoilt brat surrogate daughter
And yes, the author has a bit of a Eli Roth-esque outlook on the game atleast

There are a lot of issues I have with munkyspunk and the FSD. But one thing that kills me is how crass he is about Fallout 4 in general, downright spiteful at times, yet how utterly in love he is with his messed up characters. Everything outside of the Fens is stupid, sucky and worthless. Without the Fens folk and their beloved Sherriff's bloody-handed iron-willed leadership, Diamond City would be one big Super Mutant meat bag. Fenton and the Atom Cats would be too. In fact, the Commonwealth would be nothing but Raiders, Gunners and Super Mutants shooting each other over a handful of helpless settlers. And the Institute makes zero sense to those people, and munky. I guess they / he never studied world history, and every dictatorship which ever existed.

When a mod - and its author - goes out of its way to mock literally everything about a game, its world, its people, and even you, it all becomes more than a satirical look at the world, to something nigh sadistic. There is a lot of sadism in the mod, which you get to participate in. And don't you dare disagree with how they do their business.

Yea Ive had two game breaking bugs. They were closed with its working as intended. I relied on Kinggath's videos to check it out. - The last mission is a recap of everything that happened and they toss the player a small bone but make sure the glory is not yours even if they stood around and did nothing.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not shitting on Munkyspunk or what he produced here, I finished the mod with the bypass ending but I did roll my eyes when Lily is made the Sheriff in Training despite the others like Crenshaw showing a much better temperament and combat/leadership skills. I'm also a bit biased towards characters who knock the Minutemen, when I'm literally the fucking General and is currently rebuilding them from the ground up and have already secured a shit ton of territory.
As for the Atom Cats, the whole Lily created them and Zeke didn't is just laughable. I dunno what that Rizzo guy's deal is either he doesn't ever seem to actually do...anything

Yea his efforts to tie his characters into the vanilla story is admirable. But realistically you want to do it with as few waves as possible. Not by claiming my 60 person settlement was burned down by you (Poor Hangman). I also am a fan of the Railroad. I dont like how This mod/Heather have decided to pretend they are just the worst. If it ever turns out I can use AI or something to make a decently voice Im thinking of trying to rewrite the Railroad story a bit and add to it. Of course I have a couple of other things Im working on slowly to do first.

I'm very particular about my end game scenario, which is why I use Subversion so I can keep all 4 groups around although I'll be using both America Rising 2.0 and Dawn of America when they both land which allow you to 'beat the game' with them. I'm not a big fan of infringing on the ending so at least in that regard he did implement a choice of if you want that or not. I'm wondering if Chapter 3 will give us an end game scenario, which I'd imagine would fit in better with the vanilla game

Chapter 3 has been promised to be the coming of War. Maybie with a Nuke silo you can build is Kinggath feels silly.
I use Outcasts and Remnants to get my 4 factions survive. Its a less than ideal ending/story but I get to have Sarah as a companion :D

I used to use that mod before switching to Subversion, despite what people think of Thuggysmurf and his taste he got the job done

It's a shame you aren't focusing on that. I'd gobble that mod up in a heartbeat. The Railroad are kind of leftovers towards the end of the game, and giving them the same significance as the other three groups would be outstanding. And if you could extend that to an Outcasts kind of ending, that would be epical.
