So a new fallout like game has emerged to be released in full in 2018 known as ATOM RPG. Watching this video i cant help but think this is a complete rip with a lack of imagination. Its fallout from Russia's perspective. Maybe im just biased. You decide

To be fair, Fallout ripped off a lot of elements from Wasteland :P There is nothing new under the sun, and I'm willing to take some repeated ideas and concepts if it means a good story and engaging game.

I'm ok with game mechanics being based on Fallout and Wasteland. They do list the game as being inspired by Fallout 1 and 2 on steam in the description. The story sounded interesting, which would be my main concern. Side note for anyone interested, Wasteland 3 hit funding goals and is in development now.

Imitation is the most sincere form of flattery. If they tried to adapt the best parts from Fallout into their own game, then good for them.

Not liking this game because it "ripped off" elements of the Fallout franchise is akin to not liking over %90 of today's music on the premise it "stole" the (verse course verse) song structure from the Beatles. The Beatles did it first, sure, but that doesn't mean you can't like the vast majority of bands that have since adopted their song structure.

All your opinions make sense. Im just a biased american thats not going to play a soviet fallout haha. But yeah, knockoffs happen daily, so do the lawsuits. And the degree of the knockoff matters. The hard work it takes to make a game should never be torn apart by a kid in his basement looking to make a buck off someone else hard work. <-this is a reoccurring problem in our world and a bigger issue since the dawn of Apps. app stores are full of stolen code making every uploader extra cash they never worked for. But now im just ranting so.... yeah... Im in no way curious how a comrade survives the fallout. The game looks fun, because its a copy of our Fallout which is fun.

Certainly there is a line somewhere between imitation and actually ripping off someone else's video game, which is a real and regular problem. I would be interested in learning where the average gamer and dev thinks that line should be.

I think the ui design copyrights would already be expired for Fallout 1 and 2. Same with the character system, besides the fact Fallout 1 and 2 borrows heavily from gurps and d and d systems.

An argument could be made for the vault/post nuclear concept. It's kinda flimsy though since that concept had been used so often in various games/books/films.

Given that the Fallout games were a "ripoff" in the first place - based off of the game Wasteland, using an...ahem..."modified" GURPS system - I'm willing to be forgiving of imitators.

Im not a big fan of the game, its to bad that Black Isle & Obsidian couldn't do a collaboration project; skimming the legal line of what they are ABLE to do with out having Bethesda involved. Dont get me wrong I love Bethesda, but damn it I want another release. Enough of the 2025 crap.
