New Report Exit to desktop = game freeze

I have just installed Conq. and am level 8 (yay!). The two times I have shut down the game since installing Conq. has caused the game to freeze.
  • Save the game like usual (actual save game, not quick save
  • Once complete, I 'Exit to desktop'
  • The "Saving..." message appears, the game freezes, and after around 8 minutes, I hard re-boot my computer.
Now, I don't have a screaming machine and I have CTD's and other issues often enough that I manually save often. But I have not had the game freeze when exiting to desktop before.

For more information:
Once I chose to go Conq. with this play through, I let the game sit idle for around 30 minutes before continuing with the introduction. This let all the settlements build in the background before I even went into the vault.
I did not set any additional settlements to build other than the default options.
I have my performance settings to Medium with build limit override set to exceed the build limit.

Considering that I'm level 8 and the settlements are still at level 1, and this only occurs when I exit to desktop (I have not yet tried to save to main menu and then exit) I don't think it's typical settlement spam causing the lock up.

Hope this helps!
Also, this is not a show stopper. I don't mind hard rebooting at all. I got to shoot Marcy Long in the face and then snap her neck. I'm good. I'm real good. :)

Same issue. Fortunately I have a 2nd screen so I can use Task Manager to quit instead having to reboot.

As an update, I can successfully get to the main menu. The Exit save is valid. But I cannot exit the game without a freeze even from the main menu.
I tried the Task Manager thing but I can't get 'behind' the game to use it.
No problem though. It's just a minor inconvenience.

I had that happen last night and today as well. It did save, it just froze and required Task Manager to end it. After last ngiht, I moved Task Manager to my second monitor.

For task manager in options make sure you have Always on top selected.
I love you! <3 I didn't know about this either.

As for the exit save issue, mine froze for an extra 30 seconds on exit once but not a hard longer term freeze thankfully.

Glad to know it isn't just me hanging on Exit to desktop. As others, saves are good - and I can save during the game without issue. Problem occurs only when I try to exit the game.

just tried to make sure, my other save without prebuilt settlements but has conqueror installed can exit to desktop without crashing. BBut the test save with prebuilt settlements 4 hours of waiting (real time) for the code to load crash upon exiting to desktop

my freeze problem has stopped. not all default settlements active removed a few, didn't add any from the default de active list.
I did Covenant, workbench was unlocked & most items were take able, shopped with Penny to get Justice, went to the compound without permission, all Guards were friendly even when being shot killed all except Amelia, went back to Covenant, NPC's hostile as they should be killed all, workshop in search mode not open, items were now in steal able mode.
since then I've had no problems with the game freeze on exit

I had this to start, but sometime after 15-ish hours playing over a few days it seemed to have simply decided to stop because I was winning every round with my Task Manager.

I started a fresh playthrough & haven't had any freezes on exit this time.
I removed some settlements from the build list as graygarden & sunshine didn't get built, when I fast traveled to other settlements I found vanilla enemies at some, so decided to remove them from the build list.
Jamaica plain : got a CTD every time I fast traveled there, but had time to hear the ghouls attacking the settlers : Removed
Murk water several CTD's Removed
Zimoja : Vanilla raiders still there ; Removed
Kingsport : Vanilla children of atom still there : Removed
Coastal : Mirelurks still there, settlers killed the raider Removed
Removed all the non commonwealth locations
Slog removed : as I intend to do my own build
Taffington : Vanilla bugs still there : settlers were able to deal with them
no settlements added from the de active list
Egret owned Phillis killed by settlers.

I have the same thing, but I didn't think it was conquerors related. I haven't played in a few months and assumed it was any number of other mods that I had to update to the current version of FO/F4SE. I've just been quitting to the main menu then hitting alt-f4, but that doesn't close it completely either and I have to load up task manager and end the process.
