What with Sim Settlements, I find I don't need all the mods I normally use so ... more space!!! The thing is, I'm wondering if I should use Workshop Rearranged or Settlement Keywords Expanded. What do people here use, what do you recommend?

Its a plugin for all his mods, that creates a separate tab in the wood tab for his other mods like vanilla extensions, bobs iguana diner, box houses etc.

Where should SS and the addons be in the load order?

SS, the main mod, is an ESM (master file) and it will automatically be at the top of your load order with other ESMs. Make sure that it's placed below Fallout & DLC ESMs.

The addons, including Industrial Revolution, are ESPs, which will be below all of the ESMs.

Generally, I arrange my mods as follows:

Fallout ESM
DLC ESMs
Mod-added ESMs (e.g. Sim Settlements)

-End ESMs-
-Begin ESPs-

New Quests & New Area Mods

Game Patch(es) & Bug Fixes (e.g. UFOP)

Workshop/Building Mods (e.g. SS Addons)

Game Changing Mods (e.g. Raider Overhaul)

New Character Mods (e.g. a new companion)

Environmental Mods (e.g. grass, trees, etc)

Lighting Mods (e.g. shadows, interior light)

Audio Mods (e.g. echo, reverb, etc)

Settlement Mods (e.g. Clean _settlement_)

Pip-Boy/Workshop Sorting Mods

Character/NPC Appearance Mods (hair, body, CBBE, Loving Piper, etc)

Pip-Boy Retexture Mods (e.g. Pip-Pad)

New Gear Mods (e.g. Armor, Clothing, Weapons)

Misc Items Mods (similar to above but crafted at a chemistry station)

Armor/Clothing/Weapon Mods (e.g. Legendary Modification)

Load At Bottom Mods (Last is where you'd place mods where the author has suggested placing last. Examples are scrapping mods & game overhaul mods like Immersive Gameplay or Horizon)

Couple of things to keep in mind is that files are loaded top down. In instances where two or more mods affect the same thing (two Pip-boy color changing mods, for example) the one loaded last (below the other) wins as it will overwrite the one above it.

Hopefully that helps

Perhaps a little bit offtopic, but why not change the graphic settings?

I have since the installation more fun exploring the world, and Fallout 4 seems to be now a game from 2014, and not like before from pre-2010... :dance2

Put the res at 720 and the level at medium and presto, Mario brothers lol.
Just kidding. I play Ultra only because I can. But when this rig gets old and new stuff comes out the detail goes lower and lower for sure.
The first time I played Crysis it looked like a cartoon the detail was so low. But it worked and was fun as heck :)

Good idea though as the game play is what should really matter.
Proof of that is the fact we are all here working on and or learning about this mod :)
GREAT play-ability :)

That's true, many use different load orders and will often suggest an order that completely contradicts another. The good news is that neither mods, most of them anyway, nor the load order are quite as strict as some would have you believe.

A suggestion I would make is that you start with a template of your choosing and try it. What works for one person may not work for you, so you may have to tweak it. Once you've selected a template you're comfortable with, create a new save & try it. If it's working well, use that order for your primary save. If not, adjust it and try again. It is a rare situation where a load order causes an issue that can't be resolved so don't let it become a source of frustration :agree:

:) I'm to use to Skyrim, which could crash at the slightest load order misstep.

Well, I didn't say that it wouldn't crash lol

Really though, don't fear the load order, you'll find one that works well for you.

Blah

Half the problem is figuring out what should go where, it is very rarely obvious. For example ... where should item retuxtures go?

Item retextures can go just about anywhere, the important thing is that the ones you want to keep go in last (if modA and modB both change the texture for the 10mm, you'll keep whichever is loaded 2nd)

That's a difficult question to answer without knowing what you mean by "item". Are the items being retextured items you build while in workshop mode or items found/seen throughout the game?

If it's a retexture of items you build, I would put it at the top of your workshop group.

If it's a retexture of a random item(s) throughout the game, put it with any other mod(s) you have that also alter the game's, or items within the game, appearance. In the load order you posted a link to, I would put it with the "Visual Improvement" group (step 12). If you're using the one I posted, put it with the environmental mod(s) you have.

That's a lot of words, but don't worry about it too much.

If you're working on your load order or have installed a new mod, ask yourself a few questions:

1) What does this mod change or add?
2) Where will I see or use the changed/added thing?
3) Do I have other mods that impact the same thing?
4) Does this particular mod rely on another or does another mod rely on this one? Or, neither?

If I'm unsure of where to place a mod, I think about those questions and am usually able to determine where in the order it should go

Out of curiosity, how many mods are you using?
