Does designer's choice work, or am i doing something wrong?

As the title states.
Does designer's choice work at all? I turned it on in settings before i started putting down settlement blueprints, but it looks like all the buildings are just a random assortment.
Am i missing something?

It does for me, but if you're using a City Plan that was made using any Addon Packs that you don't have, those specific plots that used those plans will be randomised.

I made sure i had the add-on packs aswell. That's why i'm perplexed. Just to try my luck even more, i even cheated by unlocking all the building plans, plot types, etc. just to see if that had anything to do with it. I still didn't help. Is there anything else i need to do than turn designer's choice on? Any kind setting i missed maybe?

Shouldn't need to change any other settings... you're sure it's randomly selecting?

Who's design are you using and what plots are missing?

Yeah, I'm pretty sure. I compared the buildings to the picture of said settlement, and it wasn't event close. Even the vanilla settlements plans pick buildings plans from the addon packs.

Did you change the setting in MCM or the city manager holotape?

Both. The game doesn't care. I'm done with this mod anyways. I've tried to get it working on and off for about a year. Either it's crashing, bugging out, fails to load at startup, etc. Pretty sure everything that could go wrong with this mod has happened to me. Seems i'm doomed to not be able to enjoy sim settlements 2. It just isn't worth the effort.

I had that issue when I first tried SS2. I ended up going the nuclear option, deleting everything FO4 related from my computer and starting over. Then I spend who knows how many hours testing each one of my mods for compatibility. I also removed quite a few mods that I no longer needed. FO4 runs pretty good with SS2 now.
(Disclaimer: as good as one can expect for a Bethesda game :todd: )

Yeah i did the nuclear option myself a few minutes ago. I'll prbably pick it up again soon (like eventually allways do).
Two quick questions:
1. Which programs do you use to manage your mods? I've been using NMM and Loot.
2. Did you manually install ss2, or install through a mod manager?

I was using NMM prior to the nuking then I switched to Vortex. I'm too scared to try MO2 but many swear it is much better. I can say Vortex makes it difficult to set the load order. Its a round-a-bout process, but can be done.

I have installed all my mods through Vortex.

Ok, thanks for the info. I've heard people say vortex is superior to nmm, but if i have to figure out load orders on my own, i don't know if i should even touch it. I'm such a neanderthal when it comes to things like that.

I'd call arranging your LO with Vortex more cumbersome than difficult, per se, but it certainly can be a PITA if you have a larger LO or add a lot of mods at once.

The semi good news is that Vortex does sort most mods sufficiently and asks what you want to do about obviously conflicting ones.

Here is a good series to give you an idea on how Vortex works.

I re installed everything after doing the nuclear option. Deleted mods i didnt use anymore, updated everything, etc. Still the ss2 settings dont seem to do anything. Designer's choice doesnt work. I can fiddle around wih the settings as much as i want, but it's like the game doesn't respond to them. Even the door management in the workshop framework settings does nothing.

I also keep getting the message that ss2 failed to load properly when i start a new game, and have to wait for it reconstruct the save file, or something like that. I heard people say it's because there's too many mods loading up at once. Well, i tested it with only ss2 and its dependcies installed, and i still got the message.

That is strange. I have never seen that message. I usually do not have too many addons installed as I am mostly testing my own...

Yeah, but i don't know what to do about. I did try a method where you do the prologue. Then right, before you leave the vault, you install ss2. I didn't get the message about it failing to load, but i am still wondering if that can have something to do with the issues im having. Everything else seems to work though. There been no bugs or problems with the ss2 story missions or anything like that.
