The old man sat on the bench, looking up as the stranger came into town.
The stranger asked, "Hey old man, what's the story with this place?"
Taking a moment to think it over, the old man gestured for the stranger to take a seat on the bench.
"Here take a seat and I'll tell ya", remarked the old man.

It all began when a Vault Dweller came to this place, he was from the old world they say, older then most ghouls.
He brought wisdom and knowledge that had been lost to most and using that he taught us to work and build this community.
He started by clearing the area, helping to reclaim the land from the critters that had taken residence.
He then set about using something he referred to as an ASAM, something from the old world, using these devices and the materials he collected, the town was born.

Hearing the radio beacon, we slowly began arriving.
Each new settler brought new hands to help and learn.
The Vault Dweller taught us how to be a community, how to farm, use machines, and reclaim the land.
Helped us to build our homes, shops and other structures so we could be self sufficient.
Taught us a better way to live, one that didn't include raiding and stealing.
Together with the help of the Vault Dweller our town grew and expanded.
Each new stage of it's development brought more settlers and improvements, bringing us together more and more.

The stranger interrupted, "No one person can do all that, you're exaggerating."
The old man looked over from where he sat and replied, "Everything I'm telling you is true, now do you want me to finish or not?"
The stranger thought it over for a moment, "Alright old man, you got my attention."

After collecting his thoughts, the old man continued.
As I was saying, " The Vault Dweller did all that and more."
After more settlers arrived the town started to grow more and more.
Once we had enough to build our caravan routes, we found that there were more communities the Vault Dweller had built in the same way.
We slowly expanded through stages, becoming part of a network of communities called Vils.
The old man added,
"The Vault Dweller is helping to bring us back from the brink and provide safe-havens for the weary."
"I think it's his way of trying to bring back some of the old world that he left behind."
The stranger asked, "So all the Vils are a result of the Vault Dweller?"
The old man replied, "Yes, we are the ninth, we're taking back the wasteland a piece at a time."

The old man continued.
After we started to expand, using what we could from the scrap, we rebuilt parts of the fences, added security, fixed up what we could and build what we couldn't.
Although providing security was important though, we made sure to focus on the needs of the community by filtering and providing clean water for people to drink and to grow crops free from radiation. As well as homes, shops, power and other things we would need to be self sufficient.
Yep, everything you see around you is all thanks to the Vault Dweller, without them and the ASAM's none of this would be possible.
This community provides all that we need.
The old man looked up with a tear in his eye,
"This is the dawn of a new world and one that I can finally rest these old weary bones in."

He then stood and smiled, "So what do you think?"
The stranger looked up smiling back and said, "I think you told that really well, thank you. So who do I talk to about joining the community?"
The old man's smile widened, "That would be me. Welcome to your new community, we already have a place for you."

With that the two shook hands introducing themselves finally, walking off to find a place for the newest settler in what the old man called, "A safe, secure home for all."

DawnsVil Part 2

It had been some time since Aaron had arrived and spoken to the old man at the gate.
The old man had been quite helpful at welcoming him to the new settlement and getting him started with things.

He spent his time working on the various projects and helping to rebuild a stage at a time.
At this stage they had been leveling off the ground, breaking it down into gravel, making it more level.
They then set about placing the ASAMS for new structures to be build, connecting them to the slowly expanding power grid.
With this they were finally starting to look like a real community.
They had decided to enclose the rest of the settlement, completing the fence and wall sections.
Although the wall will provide a much safer community then the fencing, we only had so much reasources.
"A plan for a later stage", Aaron thought to himself.

During lunch when the sun was high, Aaron stopped to take a break.
He saw the old man sitting in his usual spot on the shaded bench near the gates,
so he headed over to sit and chat like they usually had started doing.

"Hey Old Man, hope you saved me a seat over there!", yelled Aaron
"Need to get outta this sun for awhile."

The old man looked up from his paper with a grin,
"I was wondering when you'd mosey on over."

The two chatted for some time with the old man laying out the directions for what work still had to be completed.
Aaron enjoyed his time and listened to the old man prattle on.
After, Aaron stood and headed off to help with the new water additions, completing the work that needed done.
The others had also completed the new caravan and building additions, so this would just about wrap it up for now.

It was now nearly dusk, so Aaron headed off to to relax wondering what the next stage would bring.
Hoping he'd finally get to meet the Vault Dweller the old man spoke about all the time.
He still had a hard time believing, but the more he heard the more he wanted to see for himself.

As he finished up for the day and headed off to bed, Aaron thought, "Well maybe one day", drifting off to sleep.
For now he would just look forward to what the next stage would bring for him and everyone else in DawnsVil.
