Trying to figure out what is causing this, I'm using the load order from the BiRaitBec mod guide on the Nexus (can't link due to less than 3 posts...)
After I initialized Sim Settlements with the holotape, if I die sometime after using a city planner desk (is this part of RotC instead of "vanilla" SS?) then the game will CTD after a few seconds in the loading screen. Had no such issues before initializing SS. Not sure what I need to include here to help sort this out... According to the mod guide my load order is good, but when I get back to my gaming PC I'll try to get that and post it. Thanks in advance!
This explains alot more. Also look at LOOT, maybe not 100%, but much better then manual. I will give you an example of a mod Beantown Interiors , this mod ends up around midish in the load order, however it has been noted that it is best towards the very bottom of load order as it can conflict with other mods, although this is based on certain mods that edit interior cells but not all of them, so again not that simple.
There is no exact order, i.e, a single mod might be fine, but add anohter mod and the load order might need to be changed. LOOT gives you a very good baseline to start with but also look at the mod page, the creator might have placed notes in it.
I'm at work right now, I'll post when I get home tonight. The mod guide I followed on the Nexus specifically said to not use LOOT, which I of course thought was a little sketchy, but his guide is highly rated, so... dunno. I'll ask him for some help too.
Crashing does not happen when normal loading from the Main Menu, only when dying with a settlement in uGrids, or sometimes randomly when fast traveling, although I think the fast travel CTD is just a Papyrus VM limitation thing. If I save in a settlement, I never have any problems loading that save, except for if I died nearby or by another settlement.
Sorry I can't be more specific about this, it's really stumping me. I'll post my load order tonight. Thanks for the help!
Sounds like it could be a script error which of course might not be present when you reload. CTD's around some settlements are normal, especially with Fast Travel.
Yep, that's the one. Yeah, I figured it was a script error related to dying that was causing some sort of problem with SS. I don't think I have any mods that specifically change death in any way, unless I've overlooked something. I'll have to dig in when I get home.
Load Order (IMPORTANT):
<<<Eli's Armor Compendium and/or Azar's Ponytail Hairstyles (optional)>>>
<<<Any other Settler Mods>>>
BetterSettlers.esp
<<<Any Better Settler Patches that you might use from other authors>>>>
<<<Any Better Settler Optional Packs like Lollygagging, Clean face, or Light or Heavy Armor Types (optional)>>>
<<<Better Settlers Mostly Female or Mostly Male (optional)>>>
<<<CCAP MUST go here or it wont work (optional)>>>
<<<Any Better Settler Mortal or Mortal Soldier Pack must go LAST or they wont work (optional)>>>
I always look at this to see if users are reading what authors are saying,
I have referred to BiRaitBec for "years" hahaha, sure but come-on-man. He is in control, you must layer the overwrites or you risk porking the install, that is why he says "don't loot it"
I want to be clear. This site, "SS" has some of the best, most intelligent, confident & competent, user-based support around. Hahaha, often they have buried me in my own turds if I tech-no-babbled them. TECH-no-Babble, is short for "I like the sound of my own voice while oblivious to being in the presence of folks much more educated, trained and informed than myself."
What I am saying. Ok, use BiRaitBec guide! Then use it as the author intended. if you deiveate then it is "Mystic..." install. Then let's see how the problem manifests. I recommend a clean new game given your load order and LOOT the hell out of that bad-boy before starting that new "named save".
Yes, I am being hard on you. Don't quote "BiRaitBec" guide as a baseline for a SS install unless you are really using it.
We want posts like yours. They are desperately needed. All joking aside. This is one good topic you posted and I can respect that.
Umm... Gotta say, I didn't really understand what you are saying. I did indeed follow the BitRaitBec guide exactly, except I added some additional armor/weapons and a couple body textures that were different from his recommendations. I even sorted my load order after asking him personally in his Discord what his load order is, which he kindly pasted for me. So yes, I did follow the guide very closely.
The only part of his guide I didn't do was Step 1, because I have really slow internet and didn't want to wait for over 10GB of textures to download. Anyways, I did "really use it", not even as a baseline. SS and RotC are included as required mods in his guide iirc, and I didn't even realize what SS was until I found the holotape in my inventory and checked it out. But now that I am using it, and am having this problem...

Good! You stood up to your Key Points! that helps! a respectful, thank you.
Ok, the better settlers is an indicator to me of user attention when installing mods. I can't individually look at 50-250 mods and all the combos for all users.
'
Good, and Good. I will be so gentle.
The CTD-Death I don't normally attribute the root cause to SS, I do hesitate in saying the same for a settlement process.
Loot the load order "your LO". I am not going to go over to his site your post and compare mod by mod.
I say LOOT his stuff and be done.
Now your problem! CTD in a loading screen. I am not ready to talk on this. This is just a symptom. But this is why I am taking so much time to this one post.
I don't know that in any of the above a problem has been defined.
Hmm, ok. I'll give LOOT a shot. I always used to use it, only reason I didn't was because he said not to. But if LOOT screws up I can always add requirements through LOOT.
I'm using the latest version of NMM, version 0.65.9. I just used LOOT and here is the load order it gave me, in case you might see something at a glance that myself and LOOT missed:
Well I must admit @RayBo you read my mind lol. I am always worried when someone says DON'T use something but offers no real reason.
Loot is not perfect, we all know that, but its much better then you think. This is from personal testings and also from a understanding that others have expressed:
I have found these best at the bottom, as they add tags, any mod after this that may add items wont be tagged and as I found out, it was simple to place them at the bottom. I might be wrong, however it worked for me without conflict.
I won't go through your list, I suggest as Raybo said, to use loot, you may have to make the odd adaption which is fine, but I felt like the mod author was telling me how to play Fallout, rather then me choosing my style
