Constantly crashing

Since I've put RofC into action, the game constantly crashes, way more than usual. I can't get more than 10 minutes in. My biggest issue so far is with sanctuary. I've tried demoing the whole settlement to start over......doesn't work. If I start to scrap items it crashes. Disabling the mod...doesn't work. Deleting mod....doesn't work. Reinstalling...doesn't work. Ive removed all addons and character mods, still crashes. I've tried using the mods settlement menu manager and as helper, to no effect. All my performance options are set to off, but it seems like there is even more clutter and everything is crammed into a small area. This is giving me a headache. Other than starting a new game I'm at a lose to what to do.

Disabling the mod will remove all of the records from your save, but sometimes it takes saving once without the mod to clear all of the junk. Since you can get in for a bit before the crashing starts, try this:

1. Disable Sim Settlements and any related mods.
2. Load your save.
3. Manually create a new copy of the save.
4. Load that manual save, and let your character just sit somewhere away from your settlements and see if you can get past that 10 minute mark, if so, try going to a settlement.

I'm having a very similar issue, when I get to Red Rocket (Level 1) and I open the gate, I get a Fallout 4 has stopped working.
if I do the 1-4 steps listed above, will it not remove my existing settlement?

Thanks in Adv

Yes. When you do this you want to manually create a new save so you don't delete your progress. The real goal is to just figure out if your save can be salvaged at all, and if so, if Sim Settlements is even the problem in it.

If removing Sim Settlements doesn't actually fix it, you'll want to roll back to the other save and try removing other mods instead.

I loaded a save from the Prydwin, did the steps from 1-4
Stayed around the air port for a bit, then fast traveled to Red Rocket, and no CTD or Fallout4 has stopped working. Disable the SS and Addon Packs seems to have fixed the issue :(
Though Red Rocket still has plenty of the structures just handing about

Ill check to see if Sancturary is also fixed tomorrow

Thanks KG. I'll give that a try. Though I just watched your last video on the 3.0.1 patch. I'll try updating first. Though its fortuitous that you had sanctuary in the video with the desk right there cause I forgot to mention an issue I had with the desk. Its too close to the wall on the left side of it. I cant use the desk without moving it over a tad, plus my settlement leader gets stuck between that little bit of wall on the left and the chair.

Oh, one other thing though its not exactly causing an issue, the siren in sanctuary.....does it not turn off automatically? When I first popped by the settlement to check it out the siren was going off. There wasn't an attack going on so I was kinda wondering why it was it was in use.

Um, last thought I had after hearing you explain the donation system....particularly that if I drop a weapon in by mistake its gone forever. My thought is this....what happened to the weapon (or armor) thats donated? Is it scrapped or used by the settler?

It just disappears forever. Equipping settlers dynamically without F4SE does not work very well, so this system is virtual only. Best bet is to get in the habit of throwing down a quick save before donating in case you give them something you didn't mean to.

I was also having this problem, but not just in settlements, everywhere. It happens no matter what I'm doing. Activating a NPC? Crash. Looking ahead? Crash. Looking at the floor? Crash. Interacting with literally anything? Crash. Going to save? Crash. Etc, etc. This continued even though I followed your steps.

I don't even know if this is RotC (though the timing of me starting to use the mod lines up perfectly), but this is quite infuriating. I'm going to just disable RotC for the next day or so, if the crashing stops, then it's definitely RotC. If it doesn't, then I guess it's not your mod. I'll update in about a day or so.

Performed steps 1-4, did a couple missions, walked thru a couple settlements. No crashing. The only thing that is broke was fast traveling to sanctuary, it always brought me to county crossing. I'm thinking this might have been to the fact that the design plan in the desk for sanctuary said county crossing. This occurred after my attempts at starting sanctuary over. The first time using the design did say sanctuary.

My crashing stopped after removing all SS and associated mods. I just reinstalled the SS core mod and RofC. If it goes well I'll try adding more of the addons.

It's still happening for me when I disabled them, so now I've deleted them fully and gonna see if that makes a difference considering disabling didn't.

Yeah, nope. Still crashing constantly if I disable or remove Sim Settlements and everything associated with it. Guess it's not that mod, just gotta go through my 48 other mods to figure out why this is happening. Thanks anyways.

Ouch, sorry about your luck with that. I only have about a dozen and its a pain in the ass with that amount.

@skyequakes If you disable all of your mods from the Load Order screen, does the crashing stop from activating things? If not, try the "leave your character somewhere for 20 minutes not in the pause or pipboy menus" and see if the crashes still occur when you do things after that.

If the crashes continue after all that, the save file is probably just too far gone - this is pretty rare, but if it is the case, you'll at least save your self all of the hassle of testing every combination of your mods.

Game crashes shortly after my city leader starts to rebuild.

I'm not sure if simply disabling would do anything, I straight away and deleted my entire load order (had them favorited for quick finding and re-downloading again), and I am currently re-downloading and playing with 5-ish mods at a time for about a quest or so, then adding 5-ish more mods, and repeating, waiting for the crashes to start again so I can figure out what mod was doing it. So far I'm up to 22 mods. I had 50 when it was crashing like all hell.

But as for without mods, once I deleted my load order, I wasn't constantly crashing. Hence, the adding 5-ish mods back at a time and playing enough to determine crashing or not. So far so good.
