Cleaner buildings?

I would LOVE some simple building plans that are just a bit cleaner. I get the lore vibe, but some settlers would certainly keep a cleaner place, yes?
Are there any plans for this?

Define clean.

Cause most of the plans don’t look particularly dirty to me, just built with the materials available.

As for other addons having more clean options, on Xbox I haven’t seen many options yet but the tools have been released relatively recently. Many people are working on their addon right now so I’m expecting to see new content pretty soon.

And if I look at the addons from SS1, most addon makers prefer to do content that is lore friendly and wouldn’t look out of place next to Abernathy’s house or other buildings like that. But there is also obviously many addon makers and not everyone has the same tastes so there were quite a few different options, especially by the end. I’m expecting something similar, but you’re gonna have to give time to addon makers to work their magic

One of my favorite mods was Simple Living by Iascus. I could build a nice-ish building and fill it with a few very decent looking plots. As I said, I get the lore vibe. I've been building with SS since day one. In the end, I end up using fewer and fewer plots and making my own living quarters that are more 'in the middle'. Closer to what I guess... I would actually try to do. I wouldn't likely build a house out of a phone booth or a car. Not that I have a problem with these plots, some of them look very cool. It's just that I'd love a little more four walls and a bed with a blanket sort of vibe to mix in there.
As you say, everyone has their own way. I'm early in yet, but sure would love a few nicer rooms and houses to play with. I always say I'll try my hand at it... maybe this is the year.

To begin with, looking at your answer I’d like to make one thing clear. I wasn’t trying to shame you for having a preference that isn’t the exact look that Bethesda went for. If I gave you that vibe, my apologies.

But yeah, I get what you mean, the idea of someone making a house from a car (and god knows that wasn’t the weirdest I’ve seen) is not something that looks like the most logical way to protect yourself from elements and predators. I’d even say that it looks like a sure way to get knifed in your sleep by a raider or slowly eaten by a molerat.

And you’re not the only person who expressed interest in clean looking buildings. There was one thread asking for pre-war looking building that gathered interest from both players and a few mod authors. So I wouldn’t be surprised to see things you’d like.

That being said, by all mean, do try your hand at modding. I believe the more people try making addons the bigger and better this community will be.

I hope to see your work announced in the forums one day. Take care.

Honestly, it almost makes me wish there was an "Advanced" subtype for Residential, to put higher-tech or more resource intensive houses into and still feel like it fits the 'progression curve' the mod wants your playthrough to have.
I’ll let you decide if you feel like putting this as a suggestion or not but if you do, I’m 100% behind this. You’d get my vote. Residential is not only the only plot type that has only two classes but it’s also finished to be unlocked by the 2nd SS2 mission. It’s a plot type that could seriously get some depth added.

I like it!

Yes and yes. I'd love more buildings that allowed for an 'upgrade'. Honestly... if anyone knew how many hours I've put into building cities - only to change my mods and then start over again. Seriously, I've tested the limits of all that SS1 has to offer.... only to have those cities disappear into the ether because I had something like 46 mods required! (and yes. My game started to crash). I think my last SS1 playthrough was almost there. One or two incredible buildings with some beds mixed with plots... less than I have ever used though, which makes me a bit sad.
I guess what I'm looking for are plans that have options that make me (finally) use less mods, or... if the gods were listening, I'd want to export/import individual blueprints that acted like plots. Man, wouldn't that be a game-changer? I love the work everyone has done. So creative and fun.
If only I had more time to devote to exploring all that modding has to offer!
This is the first time I've even participated. I've spent years quietly exporting my layers... seeing what it takes to break my game. SS2 is incredible. Would I change a few things? Sure. But here I am thousands of hours in and starting a new game. Who would have thunk?

I mean I get why you unlock "Multi Residentials" so early (how hard is it to just throw another mattress on the floor?) but yeah. Something approaching, say, Insitute Style housing should require being way further up the 'tech tree'.

I already vote yes!

Not at all. I think my main whine, if I had one... would be that going more lore is almost a requirement when you play SS, which is why this whole last year, I've used less building plots and mostly made my own housing. I'd just like to feel like there was a middle ground of sorts. Something to get me to dial down on the clutter mods.

The Vault-Tec Tools for Sim Settlements 2 add-on pack has very clean interior plans, but no exterior plots, because, Vault. I love them but it's tough to keep them in the random building plans list because it can be particularly jarring to see a squeaky clean interior lot right next to, say, interior slum lord lot lol.

I definitely could go for res plots that become more refined at each upgrade level. Some seem to go that route with nicer beds, electricity etc. But the exteriors seem to stay tier 1 broken wood walls and such.

The advanced res plot seems like a really good idea for something 'late' SS2 game, something that could start out as a relatively basic wood/metal structure, but have significant upgrades to the plot as it advances.

EDIT: The only thing that i would be concerned about is that someone mentioned in another thread that concrete / brick structures can decrease settlement fps by a large amount.

I'm installing your mod now @Eldarth! Love the idea that it's not rocket science to learn how to make new bricks.

Anyway, I was a huge fan of Sim Settlements Home Improvements https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/24530. I loved the cleaner aesthetic which to me isn't non-lore friendly. I mean brooms exist in the game. And if you chop a tree to create lumber, it's going to look like new lumber right? Not like 200yo distressed scrap, same with cement. Anyway, looking forward to testing it out. Hopefully something like Home Improvements comes out for SS2.

The other thing that always bugged me about the settlement system is that the main character does come from a pre-war era. It would stand to reason that especially in Sanctuary he/she would want to restore their home to some semblance of the past. Shame on bethesda for not having Codsworth at least keep the player home clean like cabot house. And at least Nora, who's body & mind are still basically a defrosted new mom, would be in full on nesting mode.

In my pack only some of the city plans will be "clean" Sanctuary, Starlight, The Slog, Bunker Hill, Jamacia plans, I say "clean" as they will still be junky but it will look like they are taking steps to keep it clean and moving to use more well build structures. I think most settlements should be kept messy so when you get to the ones that are clean they stand out so much more.

Edit: my only exception to this are the vaults they should always be clean and very sharp to really drive home the contrast.

Something like this set from Snap'n'Build is a good balance: not scrappy, but still made from post-war materials using more advanced tools
