City plans too simple?

Maybe. Truth is, the team keeps things pretty secret for as long as they can so we don't officially know what the next update is even gonna be. We all have our guesses and in some of them, they involve elements of conqueror. If that's the case, maybe they will add some new types of city plans based on defending an area.

But they will still be very simple. If you want cool, creative, crazy city plans you need to look at what others will do in addons. Because of how new SS2 is there isn't much yet but they will be coming soon.
I agree!! They're doing such a fantastic job, and your so right!

I finished my Abernathy and Ten Pines, and Sanctuary is close to done. I have exported them in Workshop Framework so far but have not made them into a plan yet.

I probably wont ever export my Starlight publicly because I still have constant non-responding freezes or CTDs in it for some reason.

The hard part is making sure the settlement soemwhat works without having to add generators constantly and avoiding the use of mods. However there was one mod for building I could not do without.
Half width shack walls at Fallout 4 Nexus - Mods and community
I'm just too in love with Ethreon's Master Plan mods. Mostly Vanilla Extensions and Port Royal, but I run them all. Then again I've never had the patience to do a city plan, and if I did I'd strip it down more.

As I understand it, the City Plans included with the mod are deliberately "bare-bones" so that even XBox players can actually use them without frying their consoles. I'm positive Addon Pack makers will make ones just as over-designed (if not more so) once they're able.
Eleventh Hour and Myst were the first pc games I played. I just don't understand why people limit themselves to console. But then, I was working with computers professionally from 1988 on.

Yes, this is a god send mod...
G2M also has half-width walls and a lot of other shack pieces that are not in vanilla. It's a must have mod for me.
I’m really hoping for conquers in the next round of updates with the main story.

As for the simple city plans I really love the simple plans, I mean there’s no way that settlers that can’t build their own defenses housing or other stuff could build crazy gated turreted little towns. The no fence is way more realistic in my eyes. Plus settlers are to dumb to build stuff without asam so anything overly complicated seems unrealistic to me.
I didn't start using SS1 until after Conqueror was released. I was surprised by the emphasis on walling the settlements until I watched Kinggath's playthroughs. It seemed like they were a necessary mechanic for Conqueror. After all, we all know that walls don't keep out vanilla attackers very well and some have enemy spawn points within the borders.

Ya know, I tried over and over to get people to understand that the blocking of line of sight is what matters most.

The AI is stupid, as long as it has line of sight it is going to attempt to shoot which means:
1. Settlers will break your own stuff and do more damage than the raiders.
2. The long distance accuracy means more shots in and out of the settlement to break stuff.
3. Barns will protect your brahmin, no barn it is most likely going to get one shotted.
4. Turrets on the walls give mobs something to shoot at as they approach which gives settlers time to run out and engage.

As for where the mobs appear, that is going to depend on how you get there. If you fast travel it takes ten times longer to get there. That means the AI is going to attempt to predict time displacement and movement. If you run there manually it is much faster in game time and you can catch mobs still outside. If you die to a settlement attack that occurs at 1pm that day and your save was after the rng roll you can go early and catch them outside the settlement.

Odd. Any time I try to manually travel, even to close ones, I got a notice that I failed to defend the settlement. Nice tip about the barns. I've built barns, but sometimes it's difficult to find room. Luckily, I don't lose many Brahmin. I try to be careful where I put the trough. I learned fairly quickly that turrets need to be high. So you're saying that walling off the settlement is actually good to do. I haven't tried Survival mode so my settlers are marked as essential, but I remember when that wasn't the case. Poor Deirdre died early on in every game. I started off by walling the settlements, but over time I changed that practice except for a few. Some experimentation is in order. Thanks for the insights.

That early on, consoles at least had the advantage of "plug it in, switch it on, be playing in 10 seconds", unlike computers of the time.
LOAD *,8,1
But nowadays...

Anyway, yeah, the base game "settlement attacks" are wonky af. Ss1 Conqueror tried to make them more interesting, but it still had its issues. Im sure "Conqueror 2" will improve on that too though.
