Cannot trade with merchants anymore.

Simply said: since I can send settler to the HQ, I can't trade with merchants exept those like Diedre, Daniel, Finch and Ronnie Shaw. The four choices I have are: "Something else" (close the discussion), "Work at HQ", "Trade" (open the settler inventory) and "Nevermind"(close the conversation). I've tried refreshing the plot. No dices. Reaffecting the settler dosen't work either.

Yeah nearly all of my SS2 traders are quite broken as well. It's like they get part of the characteristics of becoming a settlement vendor - they go to work, stand at their counters, but they aren't getting linking to the right vendor containers. Any settler assigned to a vanilla-like ss2 ccommercial plot for me has the same inventory (4 pieces of leather armor and a pipe pistol). Assign them to a Wasteland Ventures plot like power armor + ice cream parlor, and they work normally.

Also having some dialogue oddness (besides all of them talking/being talked to as though they were an armor vendor). If they're a generic settler they lose all dialogue options and can only be traded with (outside work hours) or bartered with (during work). Launches straight into the trade or barter menu after the greeting bark. Mod-added unique settlers just say "hey" but using the showbartermenu command leads to the same 4 pieces of leather armor and pipe pistol

Both generic and unique settlers work fine when added to custom vendors (like the power-icecream parlor or red tea shop). When assigned to vanilla settlement objects (vanilla stores, guard posts - anything not a plot) they behave as they should. It's a bit confounding because everything else seems to be working better/smoother than it ever has before.

Actually, I just found out it is not just merchant. Just recruited Katherine Drake, and after she set up shop, I got the quest to check on her. However, I have only the generic conversations availables.

Just tried "disable/enable" en Katherine and it resolved the issue. Also, tried on a merchant and iit also worked on the second time I initiated a convo with her.

And now, it is Mr Handsy who requires to be disabled/enabled a couple of time before I can turn in a quest.

I'm having a similar problem with an inability to trade with settlement merchants after opening up the work at HQ dialogue option. I have XDI, which I suspect may be culprit for dialogue issues here. Do others experiencing this issue use XDI? I thought it would be okay since I have the patch for XDI and SS2, but I would really like to buy stuff like pets and other SS2 unique late game stuff from merchants. Please advise, and many thanks to the dev team and awesome community here.

If you chose the option "I'll be back" then restart the convo, the option for barter or quest should appear.
That's correct. I was just going to say the same. Ask for "something else" then talk to him again. You have to do that even if the settler starts the conversation with you, for example, when he comes to you and asks for help with a kidnapping or ghouls. Same for other quests that you have to turn in with a settler.

But even then, there is sometimes a barter issue. People becoming vendors when they are something else like guards, or being the wrong type of shop owner. I've had that happen and fix itself after some time has passed or reassigning some people around. That used to happen even before chapter 2 though.
