Assignment Issues

This is probably a user issue, but I'm having some challenges with plot assignments. I'm playing v1.0.9, with auto -assignments turned off in SS2 (I had a problem with non-ss2 assignments being re-assigned). I only have beds being auto-assigned in WSFW.

I'm finding that I can assign a settler to a plot, so that the head icon on the plot turns green. However, the head icon seen on holo-view remains red and plots do not appear to be building past level 0, even with realistic build-times turned off. On top of that, the settlers-with-work HUD bar is less than 100, but if I summon all unassigned settlers, I get the message that there aren't any. Some plots have built, but it took a long time and I have toggled many settings (including making things free, etc.) so that may have played into it.

At this point, I have a bit of a mess and I'm just looking for ideas on how to get things working well, like they seemed to when I started this game a couple weeks ago. I dunno, like re-running the wizard to a default setting, making all plots free to build and maintain, and then spending a week in the root cellar.

Depending on your machine it takes a while for all the new scripts to start working. Plots sometimes need to be refreshed heck stand and do nothing in a settlement for a real life half hour stuff like that. And the vendor bug fix Requires new game.

I'm running an i9 with 16 GB of RAM and an RTX 3070. About the only thing I'm missing for the perfect modding set-up is an SSD, and I'm beginning to wonder if that might actually be an irreplaceable missing piece. Sadly, I am out of SCSI ports.

So, to your mind, this all sounds like script lag, best fixed by spending some time doing nothing. The fact that it occasionally catches up makes me think I should agree. However, the fact that some of these assignment lags have been going on for an in-game week makes me wonder if there is something else. I guess for now, I will just simulate patience and wait and see what happens.

Even with a machine like that you still will have scripts lag. Satnd and do nothing for a half hour and let scripts catch up. I have a sppe deemon too and have to do it sometimes. Go to the store. Drink a beer relax and wait. You're arei only as fast as the software will work.

Actually, after an absurd amount of testing, it wasn't anything like that. Maybe this is just a "me" problem, but the only way I can get assignments to work is to turn off all WSFW assignments and to turn on SS2 auto-assignments. I can do manual assignments, but only if I have SS2 auto-assignments turned on. If I don't set it up this way - if I leave all my assignments as manual (my preference) - then I can assign someone to the plot, but the SS2 will never register the assignment, and work will not begin on it. Of course, this comes with its own down-sides. Auto-assignment has a bad habit of un-assigning settlers from things like Caravans, IDEK desks, and Salvage Beacon desk so, every time I build something, I have to re-check each of those to make sure they have an assignment.

It's hard for me to believe I'd be the only person to notice this, so I hesitate to call it a bug. Maybe it's a quirk of my configuration, but I'll share it here in case someone else has similar quirks.

That is what recommend to turn off all in wsfw and all on in SS2. Weird that you're manual assignments aren't going right. Even with auto assign on or off I've had no issues with manual assignments. And it seems my auto assign is working good too. Sometimes too good. As soon as I assign a person a settlement they get assigned a job and home if available before even walking away from me. Even if they have to travel the entire map to get to their new settlement.

I have played many games with auto-assignment turned off in both SS2 and WSFW without issue. Do you have any settlement mods? There may be a conflict.

I can't believe you have an i9 and RTX 3xxx AND still running a spinner... :scratchhead I would check and see if your motherboard has any M.2 slots. Most newer MBs come with at least 2 slots.
There are also PCIe add in boards that will allow you to add M.2 slots to your system.

I would suspect part of your issue is caused by the HDD. Even with an SDD, FO4 can take a long time to load cell data.

Many, but I have a hard time seeing how that can affect assignments.

Interesting tip on the alternate SSD slot possibilities. This is a relatively new PC and was a bit surprised to see my drive options reduced, so maybe you're right. I'll definitely check it out.

I'm still having assignment issues with some plots, even after my auto-assignment "work-around", but I do seem to have fewer. The problematic ones display "assigned" when mousing over the plot, and the assignee, but the holo shows unassigned, and the plot never advances past level 0.

I have also found that the settlers assigned to these plots often have multiple assignments, although the problem does not go away even after I use "Settlement Management Software" or the "Gather Hammer" to remove all assignments and start over. The only reason why I bring this up is that I was under the impression that multiple assignments were a bug that had already been corrected. I have another settlement with 1 settler. I assigned that settler to a caravan while I built some early plots. The settler was promptly auto-assigned to the first plot I dropped, while still being assigned to the caravan role.

I have seen this happen as well. I think what happens is the new assignment takes priority and the unassignment part is performed later when it has a chance. I have seen it take up to a minute for the unassignment to register.

That's even scarier. So after I've already left the settlement, suddenly, it gets chopped off the supply network, along with everything that links to it. And there isn't an easy way to unassign someone from a plot without using other mods. Of course, I don't notice until an hour later why I try to build a badly needed turret at a completely different settlement and find that I don't have the components for it.

I'm currently theorizing that, other than the multiple object assignments, nothing is actually broken. This may be a combination of not having the right local build resources, the right tech level, and an insufficient feedback loop. The ASAM will say that the plot is "Operational" when it's still stuck at level 0, with a missing person icon on the holo and no scaffolding. I suspect it's missing either resources or tech level to build what I want, but it isn't saying that.

I feel like the only safe way to do assignments is to have more workers than plots, to drop a new plot, and to let auto-assignment put someone on it. Manual assignments just don't seem to work consistently for me. This makes any kind of tweaks to a city-plan a mixed bag, at best.
