SS vs. Vanilla Agricultural Weirdness

As I continue to "convert" my existing settlements to full or partial SS infrastructure, food production has definitely gotten weird. Typically, when I put in a SS agricultural plot all hell breaks loose, as settlers assigned to working vanilla foods get reassigned to all sorts of other jobs, like Defense (even if there are no SS Defense plots).

Fo example, at the Alley, food production went from 18 down to 6. When I assigned a farmer who'd been reassigned to defense to vanilla crops, it further dropped to 3.

The only way I've found of reliably transferring a settler back from any SS plot to food production is to scrap that plot.

What's the answer to this?
Is it as simple as turning off the settler auto-assign feature?
Or is a more complex solution needed?

Cant answer all of what your asking, but does it not make sense, that if you build a new SS Agri plot, then it starts at level 1, which normally will mean an output of 3.
What vanilla food production methods were you using to start with? (And how many?)

This sounds to me like the plots are likely not done construction. They don't produce food while still at Level 0.

This is true, though addon plots may have higher output.

You can also build Tool & Die shop to be able to upgrade farms to level 4. At that point output is likely in the 20's for each Level 4 plot. If you want really high output ones, a good option is Wasteland Venturers 2 where there are some Interior Ag plots in mid 20's at Level 4(Happiness variants produce a bit less but also give a bonus to happiness).

I have a WIP addon that will include 3x3 Ag plots, and will have fairly high production.

Thanks, guys. I've been using a mixture of vanilla crops and Cannabis Commonwealth interior & hydroponic units for the last year or so of play. Have never had any probs; and the Cannibis hydroponic units are perfect for small, low/no-soil sites like the Alley and Jamaica Plains.

I've been using SS agri plots--mainly interior--from Year1 & 2 mega-packs; and Altairp's addon. I deleted roughly half of my non-SS agri infrastructure.

I'm not using Idek's logistics system; as one of the management plugins for either 3-in-1 or Conqueror has an on/off selector for whether provisioners share resources across all linked settlements.

I'm guessing that my problem is the settler auto-assign feature, which I thought only assigned new, unemployed settlers. But it's definitely been re-assigning already assigned agri workers. I've turned it off, as well as the shelter mechanic. Will see how it goes.

I'm hoping it's not a conflict with Conqueror, which is why I did a complete new uninstall/reinstall of FO4 using Bi Rait Bec's system. BRB included 3-in-1 as a default part of his system; but not Conqueror, saying it's still buggy.

My guess is that if I was starting with virgin, unimproved settlements, and starting with only SS plots, that none of this agri problem would happen.

OK, after a few days went back to check on Sanctuary: 19 settlers, 3 food, 122 water, 31 beds.

Checked the single SS agri plot (2x2 exterior): says it's producing 12 food. So I task Mama Murphy, who's running a store, with mutfruit harvesting--bam! food production drops to 99999 (i.e., -1). But a few hours later listed food production is at 11. Weird.

I'm assuming this behavior isn't normal for SS? Or even normal for SS+Conqueror? If not, then it's gotta be a mod conflict.

Hmmm. That's very odd. Never had that issue myself so am at a loss. Unless its because you have an established settlement with level 3 homes, defences, etc and when you only have say 1 food plot, (or not enough), the actual overall food production is now lower than the amount required to maintain all the plots. ie, 19 in use beds (if SS homes), will required about 3 x 19 food. Each level 3 home requires 3 food. Then the defence plots require food, and any other plots that have a minus food requirement will all add up and overall its not self sufficient.

I don't use conqueror, so cant say if its a conflict etc, but I would assume not. Think we would have seen many ,more bug reports regarding it if was the case.

Sometimes the sanctuary group can cause issues I think. I no longer save them anymore

You have to toggle the options for job assignment.

SS/SSCQ will remove settlers from normal crops to a work a plot if you have "allow worker reassignment" on. Which by default it is on.

Which means you go from 6 food production to the 1-3 food production of the level 1 plot, or no food production if you are using build times.

That option will also stop your store workers and defense people from being pulled away from the jobs.

With the option to allow it is on then the SS/SSCQ AI will try to reassign people to try and balance out your needs.

Seems like "allow worker reassignment" only makes sense if you're starting a settlement from scratch. As opposed to converting a non 3-in-1 settlement to SS.

Actually it is the reverse. It is worse at scratch.

If I take my first settler and put it on a farm plot it is going to produce 0 food until it is built, then it will produce 1-3 depending on the level 1 plot. Meanwhile a settler do the vanilla 12 tato plants yields 6 food.

With that setting on it will constantly pull that tato farmer off the job.

Assign away from beds is the one you want on.
