I attacked Covenant and Graygarden and immediately after defeating them all of the npcs got back up and attacked me even though they were enslaved. What's the problem?

This happens to me sometimes what i do is when i attack the settlement with my raiders i left them beat down the civilians and then i kill the settlers for myself beacuse the settlers dont gets enslaved sometimes and you have to killed them so kill the settlers, beat down the civilians and let your raiders do the work.:ok:ok

Uncertain, this has been reported at other times - but I can't replicate it to resolve it.

Whenever I can't replicate a problem, I have to start from the assumption that the issue is that a mod is out of date, for example, if Workshop Framework was out of date, something like this might occur, or that another mod installed is conflicting.

If anyone is able to replicate this on a minimalist load order and provide me the steps I can replicate the issue, I can fix it.

Maybe an ill timed molotov or a stray bullet fired just before the quest has completed but then hitting its mark just after the quest has ended??? If that's even possible, it would be extremely hard to replicate.

One thing I superstitiously do is put away my weapon as soon as I get the kill the remaining defenders notification and then slowly start to leave the settlement. Raiders aren't babies and they should be able to finish off the mark on their own.

I don't know what level of PC you have but it may be a script lag issue. Try saving your game when this happens and then reload the save. If this doesn't work, run, return in a few minutes to allow them to cool down.

I second the script lag theory, since this happened to me in my current play through in 1 out of 4 cases under otherwise completely identical circumstances (regarding mods and load order and such).

I have had this issue too, but only when there was a Molotov burning when the last settler/guard went down. The settlement flips to vassal and if one of the settlers gets burned by that Molotov when they start popping back up the settlers will turn hostile. Not sure if your situation was similar, but I've made it a habit of making a save before I take a settlement in case my raiders go Molotov crazy and cause this outcome.

So this happened to me for the first time today (I´ve done over seven vassal runs already) when I was taking over Taffington Boathouse. There was no stray molotov or grenade for me. I had a lone civilian in a house that I rightfully put two bullets into.

Directly afterwards the quest completed but I did not gain control of the workshop right away, it only said that I wasn't allied to the settlement when I tried to use it. About ~5 seconds after that every settler rose up and started shooting everyone, they even killed Ack-Ack that was following me (which was strange cause she's never died before, she usually goes into a wounded state). About ~30 seconds after the assault quest was finished I gained control of the settlement, but the settlers didn't calm down. So I pretty much had to put them all down sadly.. Only two settlers out of fifteen survived.

Taffington is one of those interesting places.

During the assault, did you notice what had happened to the bloodbugs? Especially the two the are usually upstairs? And the one that hides in the brahmin carcass? Were they already dead? Were all of them already dead? Can you say for sure they were all already dead before the assault quest completed?

I can't say for sure to be honest. I believe that they were killed the first time I discovered the settlement if I remember correctly. I didn't see any bloodbug bodies after the assault anyway, but I might have missed them. There were alot of bodies lying around.

Taffington is one of the settlements I also consider problematic on my particular system: I've run into all kinds of trouble there in the past. This time around the Bloodbugs came alive shortly after I arrived, but that still did not cause the settler turning hostile issue for me here.
This happened to me in 2/8 vassal attacks recently (including repeat attempts by reloading saves), and it seems to be pretty random: It can happen in one particular vassal attack, and won't necessarily happen when I repeat the attack from a save made before.
So, again, I guess it happens under certain script lag conditions and is not related to particular settlements...

This has happened to me a few times, on a couple different saves. What I've been doing is getting in a quick save right when the assault quest is complete so I have an option to fast traveling out before they can up.

I've had this happen at least twice and both times it appeared to be due to animals that seemed to be part of existing plots. Once it was molerats and the other time chickens. Yes chickens. The chickens didn't seem to actually attack anyone. At least not that I saw, but did somehow agro settlers. The other time the molerats outright attacked settlers as the assault quest completed.

This save is rather buggy all around. It may be time to start over, though I may wait for another patch or two.

+1 for this, It doesn't happen everytime for me, and I've confirmed looking down the ground/ up to the sky whenever you finish a raid, gives more chances for it to complete properly instead of ending in everyone shooting at you, so I'll jump on the train to say its script lag.

Another "temporary solution" I've been using is fast travelling away as soon as the mission for the take over completes, this results in the flag getting placed in wherever location I fast travel to, but whenever I come back to the settlement, everyone is properly in the captive attire, and friendly.

Yes this is most likely lag. If anyone is experiencing this or other weird behaviours you should go to an internal cell and leave the game idle for an hour or so to let scripts complete.
I use this debug cell to do exactly this: coc debugjpsa After you've idled for a while quit to desktop, when you log back in: coc sanctuaryext will teleport you to sanctuary.
