Solved Quick question: Sort of. RE: Assignment and Roles.

Hey hey hey!

Question formally known as Quick, question regarding relationship between SS auto assignment, Conqueror roles, and Vanilla assignments. How do these all interact?

Does auto-assign option in holotape also impact conqueror roles?
Does vanilla auto assign still occur?
Do they ever overlap (all three I mean)?

The reason I ask is because every time I return to outpost my troops rearrange and assign themselves to different Roles. I leave with a config of 7 warriors (hand picked and armored), 3 workers (I only have 3 work plots, 2 rec and 1 armory), and 4 guards (I have 4 guard plots). When I return however, I have 5 warriors, 1 guard, 7 workers. No idea what the other guys are working on, definitely isn't RAIDER BOSS SANCTIONED WORK. Now that I think about it, those pricks are getting a bullet in the head.

Edit: Thanks in advance.

I think I may know what's going on. This is an assumption because there isn't anything on the Wiki (that I have found) regarding soldier upkeep. I am a little low in some areas, so maybe I don't have the necessary resources to maintain my army, particularly warriors. Secondly, it seems that sometimes the conqueror hud can be a little slow to update, resulting in double counting. Additionally there were 2 guards that I had sent to vassals as guards, but they didn't leave the lazy sods! I'm gonna put some pressure on my vassals and see if that changes things..

Are there benefits to patrols aside from having a force on the streets? Do they get XP? Does this limit assaults?

There is always a bit of a lag in the HUD when making changes for me. Once I re-role any recruit, I pop in and out of workshop mode. This usually gets the HUD to update.

Additionally there were 2 guards that I had sent to vassals as guards, but they didn't leave the lazy sods!

Sometimes they just don't like to leave your glorious OverBoss presence.

Next time you are at the vassal use the Town Meeting Gavel, it should make them appear no matter where the are. Let everyone go back to work on their own. Don't then use the Back to Work! feature: it might disappear your patrols if you have any.

Or if you aren't feeling OverBossy, just wait. They'll get there on their own schedule.

Patrols are the best! I love bumping into them at crossroads.

Patrols, especially coming from multiple outposts to one vassal, seemed to me to provide a crap ton of control. Provided you can keep a high enough warrior count in your outposts.

But this point is up to debate.

@bullyrook Good to know, thanks. Yeah for the lazy bums, I just set them to patrol and then back to guard and they immediately vanished. Peculiar, but it works. But just summoning them seems more efficient. Assuming I can be bothered travelling there.

I may need to get some patrols out there but I'm a little low in manpower and resources. Only have one vassal which just got graped by the gunners. lol. I assumed that 4 guards on a vassal would suffice, but it only provided about 30% control. My guess is you need a combination, otherwise the output of a settlement will never meet your military demands. Then again, a feudal wasteland society is probably much like a medieval one. Everyone's starving.

A question for you though. Are the upkeep costs as straightforward as they suggest? Rations is simply food, caps from stores, ammo from... industry?

Also, since you play on xbox you may not encounter this, but do you have some settlers that lose the prompt but instead talk to you right away? Yours probably looks much different but I'll post in case another PC user experiences the same.

In this case: "Grits ain't groceries and eggs ain't poultry"

Rations ain't food, food ain't rations.

You have to feed your troops/settlers just like you always have. Nothing has changed with Phase 2. They still need water, sheltered beds, and a certain amount of defense. These fundamentals are bedrock.

Food is produced by Ag Plots, Vanilla Crops, and other mod added items.
Some plots produce more food. Higher level plots produce even more food. Crops produce food.

Rations, however, only come from Ag Plots!

Higher level Ag Plots yield more rations. Level 4 Ag Plots yield the most rations. Not because they produce more food but because they are the highest level Ag plot. Ration production is only tied to the level of the Ag Plot, not how much food it produces.

Wages and Equipment work the same. How much of each is produced is tied solely to the appropriate plot's level. Wages are only generated by Commercial Plots. Equipment is only generated by Industrial plots

W/R/E isn't so much a product produced and used, but rather more like an abstract measure or gage of your empire's overall development and your capacity to support your troops.

Interestingly, supplying your Outposts with Food can be gamed. This has always been the case.

The most notable way is via IDEK's Logistics. One Logistics Station at regular settlement Farm Hub (one that is producing a massive excess of Food) connected to another Logistics Station in an Outpost can completely bypass the whole vassals only supplying half their food thing. (Couple this with the outpost/vassal virtual supply chain and it might be the case you only need this one IDEK's connection.)

Having gamed the system to feed your troops, you are still left with having to figure out how to ration your troops.

But the rations system cannot be gamed. Rations are only produced by Ag plots in your Outposts/Vassals. How much each Ag Plot produces is solely determined by plot level, morale, and in some cases (at outposts) role of the recruit assigned. Wages and Equipment works the same.

This is exactly the place I was in my last savegame that I just retired.

I built a massive farm hub regular settlement and connected it via IDEK's to my first Outpost. My plan was to basically just build Outposts and leave my Vassals basically untouched (Just Blake and family farming 18 tatos). ((This also what I was doing two years ago just before I first found SS: Building massive farms around the commonwealth with Robot Provisioners in preparation to do the whole NukaRaider conquest thing.))

But Phase 2 threw a wrench in this plan. It's no longer just about feeding your troops. You have to build farms/shops/and industry in your vassals to produce (enough) W/R/E.

I haven't had this. I wonder if the push! mod or what plot the settler is assigned to (like a clinic) or a combination is causing it?

Yeah I was thinking that. It just seemed strange that push companions doesn't impact the other troops. Coincidentally, the civilians and raiders are the only people I can't push because of SS. It isn't a big deal though, just a curiosity. Kind of like the one Raider who continually takes off the chest piece I gave him. I just made up some head cannon that he thinks he's top dog and doesn't need it. Lol.

Thanks for all that info on the supplies. I gathered that it was unrelated to the food itself. A direct relationship to the plots makes a whole lot of sense based on the settlement I razed. Clever really, the way it minimizes cheating. That said, what happens if you want a settlement without plots? Pointless question, I know I'll never have one. Lol.

I appreciate the help @bullyrook .

I thought I better add that I found out how to fix that weird thing with the hud not popping up. Doubt anyone would read it down here but it's better than nothing. It's literally the same thing as fixing troops not changing settlements: Select worker, warrior, whichever shows up in conversation, hud should pop-up, change to patrol, wait for confirmation, change back to whatever you like. Hud should work with R on the cooky trooper now.
