i got ctd's on every save i had, even on a new game as soon as i entered the commonwealth. i did some research of my own and found this topic on nexusmods forum.

since i am not allowed to posts links (yet) search for "crash-to-desktop-ctd-cure-all" on the nexusmods forum. the post is by BlindLookout and pretty old

i followed it step by step. worked like a charm, no more ctd. been playing a stable game for over 4 hours now.
turns out there was a folder /fallout4/data/fomod that contained 1 .xml file ( can't remember the name) which was linked to SS because when i opened it in notepad i saw the name Kinggath in the first line of the file.

Found the same file and it didnt seem to help walking into sanctuary, on my original build.

Went back earlier today on the save with just SS mods and have not had a CTD after setting up the city. Not sure what the deal is now.
 
My game crashes near Sanctuary, even with all mods disabled. Trying to clean it up with Fallrim didn't help, does that mean the save is corrupt & unsalvageable?

I originally got the crash at the end of the cinematic flyover when I was manually upgrading Sanctuary to Level 1, so I set upgrades to automatic (probably a dumb idea, I didn't think about it at the time) and went to Nuka World for a good 20 hours or so. Now I'm back on this map for the Home Sweet Home mission and I can't get near Sanctuary without a crash no matter what. It's not a huge problem because I can just avoid that corner of the map (though I will have to move out of Red Rocket). I've got previous saves but I think I'd rather lose access to Sanctuary than my NW progress because I've never made it this far through the DLC before.
 
Sorry I forgot to mention I tried the 3.1.0a beta last night and it didn't help, so I uninstalled it to wait for the proper release. I just tried it again and got the same result.
 
Is your save file already hanging out near Sanctuary? If so, it might already have triggered all of the scripts and overwhelmed your game. Do you have any saves a bit further back you could try with?
 
I tested several saves, going further and further back each time (I never overwrite or delete old saves, I just archive whatever's in my save folder every so often). I'd wait around for the SS update notification then fast travel to Concord and walk up the hill. It crashed in all tests where Sanctuary was level 1, I could get in if the city was level 0. If I tried to upgrade the city manually the game would crash. I kept going further back until before the city was eligible for an upgrade so I couldn't do anything with it.

If there's anything you want me to do that might help you with your mod let me know, if not I'll just write this one off as a loss. Thanks.

I'm not sure if I should report this or not, but I figured out what it was and how to fix it from this thread, so I might as well let you know, @kinggath. I was having a Physics/LOD Crash whenever I tried to approach the house with the Sim Settlements desk in it after updating to the newest patch. Using the fix listed in this post has worked for me, but since this seems like it might be Sim Settlements related, I figured I should report it in some way just in case.

This kind of crash is either due to FO4edit creating a backup folder in your Fallout 4 directory, or you have a program called Precision XOC, if you have either of these things, go find and delete/move the backup folder FO4edit created, or find the directory for Precision XOC and delete a .dll what has something like "serverhooks'" or something in the name. Both of these things have capability of crashing your game on start up or as soon as the game loads, I'm not sure why. Also, verify your game files after doing those things because somehow Fallout 4 can end up missing a file.

I just began getting this same exact error code failure about 4 days ago. I suspect it might be from a recent F4 update conflicting with a mod. It was crashing everywhere in my game sometimes 2 seconds after load. I ended up clean reinstalling so far I'm stable but I'm not sure that SimSettlements was the culprit. I was having crashes in areas outside of Settlements that did not have SimSettlements.

Game is on an SSD drive

hmmm.... I'm on:

AMD FX-6350 (Six-core) 3.9GHz
16GB RAM
GTX 1050 10153MB total (1987MB VRAM, 8166MB Shared)
Game is on an HDD drive (7200 RPM SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache)

Between apples and oranges (Intel / AMD) and video card models making NO sense related to performance, I have no idea where that puts my system on the spectrum.
 
hello good, I in my case when I do so that a settlement is built automatically, at the time of for example I put a light bulb or some other object the game closes. The only mods that I have are those of sim settlements and 3 that add armor. Could it be the problem of the sim settlements?

I was getting loads of ctds, either in settlements or when leaving interior cells and going back to commonwealth. Also alot of stutter.

So the steps I took were

1. Reinstalled steam outside of program files
2. Reinstalled Fallout 4
3. Reinstalled f4se
4. Updated to latest version of nmm
5. Updated to latest version of loot
6. Reloaded all mods, checking I was on latest versions.
7. Checked for mods that overwrite each other ( concealed armour overwrites armour keywords with an old version of the. Esm for example)
8. Added in performance tweaks from this wiki
9. Ran bethini
10. Installed load accelerator mod that turns off vsync on loading screens

Now, I'm 40 hrs in to new save and...... Not a single ctd.....not a single one.

I've never had it before. Not this stable.

I'm only a mod user, not a modder so I can't say which step cut most the ctds but it just works...somehow
 
Does it have to be dropbox? Can't it be google drive or any other upload site?

I can shed some light first, in case uploading my save isn't necessary. I, like many others started to expirience a butt load of CTD's after installing Sim Settlements. The stupidest ones, main price winner being 5 consecutive crashes in Pipers office. The one time it DIDN'T crash, it spewed some info that dudes started building a house in Sanctuary. Yay.

Other than that, I crashed once in The Castle. I think It's on lvl 2, so I decided to do some cabling. I'm pretty sure Rise of the Commonwealth doesn't cover that, but all the pylons etc are there. So I was connecting the dots, and all of a sudden it blew up. No idea why.

Sanctuary, once it entered lvl 2 turned itself into Crash City. I crashed around 6 or 7 times in matter of minutes. It calmed down since then, but just in case I'm not staying there for too long.

That and some random CTD's while fast traveling (Not necessarily to/from settlements), entering or exiting interior cells, etc.

Oh, and a bonus question. Why does my red rocket have over 100 foods and water? I installed a mod, that turns water pump into that nano bullshit (I'm getting rid of that soon), but still, there's nowhere near enough pumps to give that much in return.

Bonus question mk2. Your settlement blueprints don't seem to utilise artillery, do they? In that case stop making those instane requirements. There's basically no room for it, cause every single dude has something to do.

Any suggestions? I really can't go back to an old save - it's been doing this for quite some time now.
 
Actually all evidence indicates the author of that mod is either outright lying or just doesn't know what they're doing. Tests to see if the mod is breaking precombines on xbox shows that it does (you can see it by changes in material swaps). The mod author has refused to explain how they're doing it and has been unable to explain the evidence indicating broken precombines to people that are experts in the precombine system.

I'm on an Original Xbox and have a scrap everything mod with all of it's add-on for Far Harbor, Nuka World and Vault 88 after reading this I'm thinking of deleting the mod .I keep hearing those mods are usually more trouble than they are worth.

We've been seeing a lot of weird stuff happen due to things like loose files in the data folder. It might be time to clean out the gunk and put fresh copies of your mods in.
