Tutorial Your First Building: What is going on?

I've been playing with making a few structures by following the tutorial. The latest I've built has . . . something which pops up once I grab the layer and make it into a static collection. I've gone through all of the objects in the layer and I haven't been able to figure out which might be causing the issue.

What am I running into here and how might I fix it?

Hi! This happens when you scol an object that can’t be scoled. Usually one that used to be a scol (like the kgsim clutter items) or one that has a different type of collision (chains, containers etc).

The fastest way to find the culprit is to make two layers and put half your items on each, make one SCOL for each layer and then repeat until only one object is left.

If you’d still like to keep this object you can spawn it in later, same as with beds, lights, etc.

It was indeed one of the clutter items. Is there a way to check beforehand if one of the static items won't play nicely?

If you press F4 in the ck (with the scene view selected - I forget the name of the window, but the one where you build stuff) you get different colored outlines on the objects. Red should be ok, this means static. White too (used for e.g. stairs). The others may be a warning sign.

F4 shows the collision on ALL the layers in a cell though, so when I test I sometimes make an empty cell (copy the building cell) and test in this.

After a while you tend to get an itchy feeling about some items though and then it’s easier.

Thank you kindly.

Uh, I can't get it to show up in the residential building list in game for some reason. I've gone through the process twice from scratch and apparently I'm still not doing something correctly. I'm going to need to come back and look at this with fresh eyes after getting some sleep, I think.

Depending on where you are in the tutorials, this can happen for a few reasons. The most common is not having updated one's mod version global value (if you've reached that stage). You can also try to use the holotape Tools/Advanced and Reset Building plan cache. And if you aren't making a regular 2x2 you might have to use the Cheat section in the holotape to unlock all plot sizes.

I'm using a clean savepoint so I don't think the version is an issue. Lemme try resetting the building cache.

EDIT: Neither the cache nor the version were a problem. I'm thinking I've borked something up and am going to try an entirely new .esp file.

EDIT 2: That did it. I must have fumbled something the first time around. Thank you for your help!
