Question WSFW - Claiming/Unclaiming a Workshop

If you have unlocked all the settlements, but want to unclaim them, meaning to either discover them again, can you reclaim via the game mechanics and not the MCM "Claim this settlement"?

Example - Nordhagen - rescue the kidnapped settler. I paid the ransom and unlocked it. If I unclaim it and come back again later in the game, will I be required to rescue a settler or available for a radiant quest as it isn't claimed as a workshop?

Or if I unclaim Spectacle Island, shut off the boat/beacon, will the monsters come back / enemies respawn?

I am curious about for a RolePlay save game I am working on.

Thanks
John

@Whisper - you may know this answer best?

I have never un-claimed a settlement, nor lost a settlement due to unhappiness.

:umnik2

That said, I believe (tm) that they are able to be re-claimed via a new radiant quest at a later time. Perhaps @RayBo has some info on this mechanic?

You can leave Preston in the Museum or in Sanctuary and go do settlement-gathering on your own, no mention of the Minutemen at all.

You should be able to just waltz in and pretend you don't have history with the settlement, aka you'll get a new quest. Not sure if it'll pop up as a radiant, but no one likes Preston anyway, so... :pardon
Question, it should be like you weren't there. Does it allow the game to respawn enemies Like the ghouls at Sunshine or Coup Manor or the creatures spectacle island (I cut the power). I don't think it would respawn Boomer at Outpost Zimonja since he is dead.

I suppose I could unclaim and manually respawn creatures myself.

Thanks for all the help.

John

Ps - this for a RP save game I am posting up on Nexus hopefully tomorrow morning.

Where Garvey is in trouble, caught in museum because raiders from Nuka Worrld want their PA back. Of course Garvey hide parts around Commonwealth as well as 3 specials built by Sturges.

Most so I have a game where I don't have to take care of settlements and worry about them. Without doing SS2.

I don't have first hand experience, but I remember reading something where you just get a generic radiant quest you have to complete to claim the settlement. Like go to location X and wipe out enemies Y.

So how is this working for you? Never having done this, when I read your post I thought I would give it a try. I am not using WSFW as I am trying to see the differences with and without as I have been using WSFW for so long I forgot how the game worked without it on Xbox.
I disowned 80% of my settlements some came back but most did not. I have tried looking at the details and I am not seeing a connection. I used SKK workshop utilities to dis own them, which might be why and I am also on Xbox which could be the issue. Not sure PC and Xbox work the same from things I have seen in game.
Several settlements asked for help on my next visit or the one after, but the quests were generic and none were what I normally expect except some were identical to the second settlement quest you might get. Abernathy asked me to clear the quarry and The Slog had me clear the quarry near them, Finch sent me back to the Forged. It looks like settlements with settlers at the beginning will cycle, but I have two that have not. Somerville, and Warwick remain independent. Warwick is different and I expected it to be an issue but have had them join without the institute sending me there. Somerville, in the past has also let me walk away without asking for help even in Vanilla un modded games, so no surprise to me they have not asked for help.
Only 2 of my no settler sites have asked for help again. I am not seeing a connection here so any thing you might have noticed could be a detail I am overlooking.
Edit I should add the first activity all happened in the first hours of the save. I would say by 50 hours on the save all that have come back asked for help. Now I am at 250 hours on that save and am about to use the same mod to take those settlements back and see if they trigger the second request for help? Game total for the save is 625 hours.
