Where would you build?

I am using the colored Satellite map with a great grid system over the vanilla maps. I should try and use it to figure out distances like caravans and salvage beacon range. Then I would know about how many grids away something can reach with a quick look.
It would be awesome to have a tool that would make a map overlay that would show ranges of these items or even the limit of any one settlements empire range. It would sure make designing supply and vs consumption settlements easier. I have really been trying to do something like that. Some settlements do more production in industrial and other in farming and other in water, and some are trade hubs, etc. But not knowing the range and distribution of the empire system and it's range makes that hard.

so many cool locations to build I love how we all have different reasons and places.

Personally, I've been on a real Children Of Atom kick the past month or so for some mysterious reason. Being able to properly Embrace The Glow by living there just feels like a logical extension of that, even if I have to start straining my mod load order back out now that I finally got it stable again.

There are some Children of Atom themed settlers in the Recruitable settles mod. Also I'd recommend using Atom's Glory Threads, which also adds recruitable armor vendor.
Is it safe to build in the Glowing Sea tho? Can settlers actually die of radiation?

Already using that Threads mod, love the look of the painted Metal Armor over the 'robes'.
Not sure about the rads being lethal tho - your companions dont seem to care, but that might be a special case. Will have to SCIENCE this.

I had a settler die of radiation working a Rare materials plot at the Lighthouse that had waste barrels by it. No ones died working there after i deleted the waste barrels.

Starlight Drivein is my go to place, sanctuary does my head in we need a really good multi level sanctuary plan,
Finch farm if your cleaver can build on the freeway likewise grey garden
abanathy farm has also the greatest height allowance so would be great to see a scrappers pramid built round the pylon and then of course there is Vault 88....

My first playthrough before I knew of SS I built a huge mega city ala bladerunner style at Starlight. Same playthrough i built a mega 5 story vault that totally destroyed my xbox everytime i'd go there. oh the days. Now I try and let city plans do the work at Starlight and add on where needed and I play on PC so i can really max out out the way I like. And yes Sanctuary really needs a solid city plan or 2. it is and always has made my head spin. Even on this play through Sanctuary is my nemisis.

The question to all is as follows.
What is your favourite settlement location and why?

Follow up question, if you could build anywhere where would you build in Fallout 4 and its DLCs
Starlight because it’s at a strategic location with good build space.

dead space in N or W of main map (excluding areas touched by SS2... N of tenpines)

(m)any of the dead spaces in Nuka; wish the largely vacant towns were developed (eg S of station or NE of Nuka) after clearing out the hostiles

Fort Hagen RR. Need something to be able to keep an eye on Rust Devil movements and a spot between Co-op and Roadside Pines Motel (Mod Settlement) or Somerville or Egrets if not using that mod. Fort Hagen is perfect local. even the warehouses just south would work.

I look at starlight and I think man I can build so much here and then I start and I quickly go, man, they gave you crap all build budget for this location. I love it as well and I have an idea for a raider settlement there but I need to get better before I can full it off. Picture a working colosseum for a raider boss.

Imagine:
-ring surrounded by structures
-some are rooms with 2 entrances-exits
-usual (safe) exit is default
-during sleep time, you flick switch (manually) to disable usual exit and enable fight exit
-after waking up, NPCs from selected rooms path thru fight exit into ring
-fight till one quits (or dies)
-ring provides rec type benefit of agility

I always see Starlight as the trade/entertainment hub of the area. an arena would be cool. i always try and do a Bartertown feel there. As for going up it seems almost useless cause no one will go higher than maybe 3 stories. I mean the plot functions whether they can get there or not but it kills a little immersion. Not that anyone will go to or stay at their plots anyway it seems.

Have you tried settler sandbox expansion mod? It’s supposed to help w large settlements

sandboxing... settlers pathing is one of the biggest time sinks in my city plans.

I love outpost zimonja almost as much as I hate tenpines bluff.

I'd like to build at skylanes crash site

To me, outpost is like Tetris... how can I make all these fit together. Some playthroughs I want to play Tetris; others I don’t.

One of the city plans is really creative (apologies I forget whose it is)... well done

Oh I know the plan you are talking about, the mad mining and oil complex, that was done by Phil_T_Casual
